Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

Has enabled seamless disaster recovery with virtual rollovers and rapid failovers between systems
Improving Precisely Assure MIMIX is going to be a really hard one; over the years, the tech support started off kind of rough but gradually got better and better as I used it often, being on a first-name basis with many of the customer service reps because of having to call with issues that they were always able to resolve fairly quickly. I would have liked to see more reporting, maybe automation of reports, but as far as integration with other systems, I always used Precisely Assure MIMIX on an AS/400, iSeries, IBM iSeries machine, and I cannot speak to using it on any other device.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Zerto is able to fully meet our needs, and we are able to achieve the required RTO during our normal and yearly DR exercise."
"We've seen a massive benefit from using Zerto in terms of time savings and consistency."
"It's extremely easy to use HPE Zerto Software. Our first failover test went flawlessly. We failed over our entire data center, approximately 200 VMs in half an hour - very fast."
"Provides a simple interface for VM DR."
"The most valuable features are the single pane of glass and the reduction in time it takes for our systems engineering team to manage the platform."
"The main reasons for adopting Zerto are data protection and being able to do disaster recovery for site recovery."
"We have saved time in a data recovery situation."
"Zerto is truly inspiring."
"Database replication is most valuable. It is multi-platform, so it can replicate from a variety of different database types to a variety of different database types."
"The product's initial setup phase was straightforward and simple."
"Database replication is most valuable; it is multi-platform, so it can replicate from a variety of different database types to a variety of different database types, and it is a relatively stable database replication product."
"Precisely Assure MIMIX has positively affected our organization by reducing downtime because it takes 30 minutes from swapping from one box to another; production is back up and running within 30 minutes, and a lot of times, I could get it down to 20 minutes."

Cons

"We're an NSX-T shop, and if I could get an NSX-T integration where it could manage the networks a little tighter, that would be an improvement."
"Customer service and technical support need improvement."
"With the VPG (virtual protected group) it would be nice if you could pick individuals in the grouping instead of having to failover the whole group."
"Compared to other products, I would praise the intuitiveness of the product, but I think that can always be improved."
"We would like some of the real fine or granular things. We've submitted a few minor things for enhancements such as being able to control bandwidth utilization for each facility you replicate to versus overall."
"I would like to see a couple of details regarding awareness of VM events coming outside of ZVR."
"When I have a technical question, it sometimes takes a while for tech support to respond."
"Better communication around pricing would be useful - particularly in light of the economic and tariff situation we have going on."
"It does data manipulation language (DML) replication, but it does not do data definition language (DDL) replication. In my opinion, it is a disadvantage. It would be nicer if it was able to do both DML and DDL. I'm not 100% certain of this, but it seems Oracle Golden Gate does both DML and DDL. MIMIX only does DML, and it would be very nice if they included DDL replication. This is one feature that would be very helpful to have."
"The high cost of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"The pricing was a little steep; I believe it could have been lower, but for what I received as far as the service, the price is pretty close."
"There is certainly a strong lobby in the company that feels that by having so many copies of the same set of data throughout the organization, we are going in the wrong direction."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Having backup and DR is somewhat moderately important to us. The problem with us, and a lot of companies, is the issue with on-prem Zerto. It utilizes whatever you have for a SAN. Or, if you are like us, we have a vSAN and that storage is not cheap. So, it is cheaper to have a self-contained backup system that is on its own storage rather than utilizing your data center storage, like your vSAN. While it is somewhat important to have both backup and DR, it is not incredibly important to have both. I know Zero is trying to heavily dip their toes in the water of backup and recovery. Once you see what Zerto can do, I don't think anyone will not take Zerto because they don't necessarily specialize in backup and recovery 100 percent. They do replication so well."
"The pricing is slightly above average, but the immediate and comprehensive support makes the price acceptable."
"At the time I had purchased the product, the pricing was fair and reasonable. Over the years, costs have certainly gone up, which makes it hard for healthcare companies to use the solution."
"From a customer perspective, the price is okay. From an investor's perspective, however, it is a little bit high."
"The pricing seems fair."
"The solution is expensive, but it's worth the price."
"The licensing costs are not cheap. It is kind of an expensive product. However, I am a get-what-you-pay-for kind of person. After using this product, I can understand why the licensing costs are high."
"All of my customers are happy with how this product works and they like it, but unfortunately, in the market that I represent, Zerto is expensive when compared with the competition."
"The licensing provides the access to support. I do know that there's an annual charge for being able to call into their support line and get a technical team from Precisely to assist with any issues we may have. I don't think there are any additional costs other than what we incur internally in terms of the infrastructure that we need to run and operate the product."
"The cost of the product is too high."
