Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

Has enabled seamless disaster recovery with virtual rollovers and rapid failovers between systems
Improving Precisely Assure MIMIX is going to be a really hard one; over the years, the tech support started off kind of rough but gradually got better and better as I used it often, being on a first-name basis with many of the customer service reps because of having to call with issues that they were always able to resolve fairly quickly. I would have liked to see more reporting, maybe automation of reports, but as far as integration with other systems, I always used Precisely Assure MIMIX on an AS/400, iSeries, IBM iSeries machine, and I cannot speak to using it on any other device.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Zerto's most valuable features include its user-friendly interface, multi-tenancy capabilities, and near-zero downtime recovery."
"The low RPO times of about four to eight seconds are very nice and very valuable to us."
"The features of HPE Zerto Software that I appreciate the most include being able to recover VMs, change the target, and either deploy the VM with the same IP address or a different IP address on different networks for a digital twin."
"With the deployment of Zerto, this has significantly improved."
"It's way better than anything else on the market."
"Zerto also improves application availability as our business continues to increase our lifespan."
"The ability to fully test your entire environment without actually performing a failover is invaluable."
"Zerto is easy to use and the interface is very intuitive."
"Database replication is most valuable; it is multi-platform, so it can replicate from a variety of different database types to a variety of different database types, and it is a relatively stable database replication product."
"The product's initial setup phase was straightforward and simple."
"I see that the seamless synchronization feature is helpful for your organization or your customers' organization."
"Precisely Assure MIMIX has positively affected our organization by reducing downtime because it takes 30 minutes from swapping from one box to another; production is back up and running within 30 minutes, and a lot of times, I could get it down to 20 minutes."

Cons

"Sometimes, Zerto almost holds the vSphere environment hostage when it comes to taking certain actions."
"Zerto needs to improve its documentation."
"But, if you don't have other tools to also help protect you from ransomware, Zerto by itself may not be sufficient."
"I would like Zerto to add support for VMware's lifecycle manager."
"I would like to see Zerto implement a pay-as-you-go model."
"Its initial setup can be better. It looks easy, but if you do not have things in the right place, it is not as easy as it looks. Some of the instructions were not clear. They were a little bit confusing. For example, while setting up SSH initially, it was a little bit unclear if I needed to use a regular credential or some other credential. This was one of the things that was a little fuzzy, and we had to get somebody else involved to help us out."
"The full site recovery is not up to SRM standards."
"Some of the cloud instructions around VNets and peering of networks could be clearer with some best-case examples. It is more complicated once you move into the cloud than running it on-premises. Actually doing these things is quite easy in the cloud and with Azure, but understanding how it fits in my environment can be quite a head-scratcher at times."
"One thing I see as a drawback in Precisely Assure MIMIX is that deployment is quite complex and it takes time."
"It does data manipulation language (DML) replication, but it does not do data definition language (DDL) replication. In my opinion, it is a disadvantage. It would be nicer if it was able to do both DML and DDL. I'm not 100% certain of this, but it seems Oracle Golden Gate does both DML and DDL. MIMIX only does DML, and it would be very nice if they included DDL replication. This is one feature that would be very helpful to have."
"The pricing was a little steep; I believe it could have been lower, but for what I received as far as the service, the price is pretty close."
"The high cost of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"There is certainly a strong lobby in the company that feels that by having so many copies of the same set of data throughout the organization, we are going in the wrong direction."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's very equitable, otherwise you wouldn't do it. It's something that we utilize for the licenses per core as far as what we're backing up. Therefore, it's very cost-efficient as far as the licensing goes. For the amount of stuff that we're backing up and what we're utilizing it for, the licensing is not very expensive at all."
"I've been told that when they originally got the quote, it was a little bit of a sticker shock. However, now that we've actually been using it for six months, I've been told that the investment was well worth it."
"Zerto is not overly expensive. It's worth what we're getting for it, but with tough times, a discount would be beneficial."
"It is cost-efficient because we have perpetual licenses. We are a small to medium-sized business, so cost is a pretty big important factor."
"They should adjust the pricing because I feel its price is too much. If they reduce the price, there will be more users and customers."
"Zerto is a little bit on the higher side in terms of pricing. It would be better if they had a pay-as-you-go package."
"It is not cheap, but it is reasonable for what it is offering. It gives me the peace of mind that my data is protected. It is worth the cost."
"Price-wise, it works fine for me, but my budgetary team is always looking for ways to cut costs, and it seems like they first look at the data center and the IT side to find savings."
"The cost of the product is too high."
"The licensing provides the access to support. I do know that there's an annual charge for being able to call into their support line and get a technical team from Precisely to assist with any issues we may have. I don't think there are any additional costs other than what we incur internally in terms of the infrastructure that we need to run and operate the product."
