Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

The solution can be used for DR testing and allows running an infinite number of full backups
When we consider the backup model of other products like Veeam, their incremental backup just adds to their first full backup. With Veritas System Recovery, we have the option to run an infinite number of full backups according to our requirements. With my cloud version of Veritas System Recovery, I can have a full backup every month, which is not possible with any other vendors. Other vendors will claim that the original copy is strong enough, but the customers have to ensure that bugs won't cause any problems in the future. However, with Veritas System Recovery, you can run a full backup this month and again run a full backup on the first or thirtieth day of the next month.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"In general, when we have done our recent testing using the Zerto portions, once we say, "Okay, we are doing this now," it is taking less than three minutes on average for the systems to be fully back online at the new location once we start."
"Live replication and up to the second type of failover are valuable. The fact that we can do test failovers and failbacks is important for our ISO certification."
"From the recovery point of view while working with HPE Zerto Software, we save a lot in terms of time, money, and resources, especially during critical applications and deployment time, which is less complex compared to other applications."
"It gives us a seamless, performant data center migration."
"I really like how you can test the failover as often as you need."
"The solution has definitely helped reduce our DR testing and automate it, although I do not know those numbers off the top of my head."
"Consistency Groups: If you replicate groups of VMs, then during failover, all of the VMs in groups are failed over to the exact same point in time."
"Stable disaster recovery solution with a very simple setup and fast failover."
"The installation was straightforward."
"The tool helps automate system recovery. The solution is most useful in scenarios involving restoration to a different environment. For instance, when migrating from a physical server to a virtual one, the tool facilitates conversion."
"You can back up the whole image."
"The solution has helped reduce my company's cost by around 50 to 60 percent."
"The best thing about this product is that it's a unified solution and doesn't require the installation of any other solution, whether it's in a virtual environment, or on-prem."
"The solution captures the system state, so when we restore the system, it will be restored to the state it was in at the time of the backup."
"It has a user-friendly interface and configures and integrates nicely with other products."
"You can back up the whole image, not just files and folders, but the image from the server, and you can restore the whole image."

Cons

"When we are trying to upgrade any virtual machines, we have to stop the virtual machines that have been replicated in Zerto and then upgrade or update to the virtual machines onsite. Instead of having to do it manually, there should be some way of automating that particular function."
"Zerto's effect on our RPO can be improved."
"The only thing I could suggest for HPE Zerto Software would be better support for detached drives in a clustered environment, as it's currently not supported very well unless everything's running on a virtualized VMDK file."
"I would like to see Zerto come up with an emergency line for support."
"Customer service is five out of ten. There is room for improvement. We need more local support."
"One issue we've been having with Zerto lately is the ability to go into maintenance mode during vSphere upgrades."
"Their support team didn’t have all the answers, and some of the cases took far too long to address, especially on critical systems that needed to be operational for our DR events."
"Physical servers would be a nice enhancement. I would also like to see the backup portion really enhanced further."
"For most organizations these days, their main concern is to protect their database and I think Veritas could make some improvements in that regard."
"The product's integration capabilities are an area with certain shortcomings where improvements are required."
"The tool's deployment could be easier. The deployment itself isn't the issue; rather, the problem lies in configuring policies and testing everything before it's ready. We invest a significant amount of time in preparing for various scenarios. However, we often encounter situations where changes have occurred since our initial preparations. This can render the automation less valuable."
"This solution needs an easier interface that is more comprehensible. Also, sometimes we have issues with restoring images when we initialize the servers."
"The pricing could be cheaper."
"Lacks the ability to protect the database snapshot."
"It needs an easier interface."
"The pricing could be cheaper."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Zerto's pricing model is cost-prohibitive for small—to medium-sized businesses."
"From a customer perspective, the price is okay. From an investor's perspective, however, it is a little bit high."
"When we purchased Zerto, we felt it was worth the cost as it would protect us from any potential problems and give us peace of mind knowing that any critical items could be recovered quickly."
"We believe the pricing, setup costs, and licensing are easy to understand. The pricing seems very reasonable."
"It was pretty appropriate. It was not too cheap, not too expensive. It was just about right."
"It is less expensive than the full solution that we had previously, but at the same time, it's not an inexpensive product either."
"The pricing is good. It's affordable."
"Price-wise, Zerto is fairly reasonable and I can't complain about it when we compare it against Oracle and SAP licensing."
"My company has to make yearly payments towards the licensing costs attached to the solution. There is no need to pay any additional fees apart from the licensing costs attached to the solution."
