Virtualization has reduced licensing costs and improved integration but still needs better performance insight
Integrations bring the biggest benefit to us. We use half of our virtual machines that are Microsoft, so it works better hosted in Hyper-V compared to VMware. Clustering and failover capabilities in the product help with our availability. It helped because we switched to Hyper-V because it was lower cost than paying for high availability in VMware. We need Microsoft licenses for virtual machines, so it costs less than buying two solutions for that. We have data center editions, so it did not cost us additional money compared to paying for high availability from VMware. I think it helped a little, but not so different compared to VMware regarding security and bandwidth optimization.

Significant backup for containers, but the customer service is terrible
Anyone considering this solution should not compare it to the old versions. They should be a partner with Virtuozzo and run all the certifications. Also, they need a good lab to understand the technology and how they can apply that technology conveniently. This is very commercial software. It does not have support, so you will need to be hands-on. I would rate Odin Virtuozzo a six out of 10 overall.

Pros

"The hypervisor based server visualization product, launched from Microsoft along with Microsoft Server 2008 R2, greatly helps in managing high availability, load balancing, resource sharing, and fail over clustering."
"We use Hyper-V for production, testing, and development; it's a core infrastructure solution for server virtualization and is actually deployed virtually for other services that need to deploy virtual machines using it."
"The solution is very stable."
"All in all, Microsoft Hyper-V is an excellent platform and a great competitor for VMWare."
"The initial setup is easy."
"The product is not difficult to set up."
"What I understand from our people is that it's certainly better now than it was a few years ago."
"We can illustrate all of the infrastructure very easily."
"When you run templates on the containers on Virtuozzo they have a lot of back-ups."

Cons

"It would be nice if they had video acceleration, they got rid of that and VMware has video acceleration."
"We would like to have a cloning function added to this product."
"Technical support is very limited."
"The solution should be compatible with different systems."
"They should include a few more hardware components for integration with servers."
"If a person has never implemented the solution before, they might find the process difficult."

"Some of the interfaces need improvements, like the virtual switch or virtual VLAN interfaces."
"Odin Virtuozzo has poor support and needs to improve."
"Odin Virtuozzo has poor support and needs to improve."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There is a perpetual license to use the solution and there are additional fees for support."
"Hyper-V's price is essentially zero because it's a feature of the operating system that I can enable and disable at will."
"Microsoft recently tacked on a higher price for their software to use the storage migration in the Storage Spaces Direct array. That was just terrible."
"This is a fairly expensive product because it balances the needs of security."
"For us, it is free, so it was a prime factor for choosing this solution."
"Hyper-V is included in the Microsoft Azure license for no extra cost. However, they charge for technical support calls on an hourly basis."

Hyper-V 2012 R2 vs. VMware vSphere 5.5
I was won with Hyper-V 2012R2 recently and the table below based on customer RFP (edited). This articles all about technical, there is not related with TCO/ROI, licensing cost, “political”, etc. Another to noted is the Windows Server 2012 licenses is based on 2 socket CPU, meanwhile…
