Significant backup for containers, but the customer service is terrible
Anyone considering this solution should not compare it to the old versions. They should be a partner with Virtuozzo and run all the certifications. Also, they need a good lab to understand the technology and how they can apply that technology conveniently. This is very commercial software. It does not have support, so you will need to be hands-on. I would rate Odin Virtuozzo a six out of 10 overall.

Manages clusters across sites and has an easy setup and integrations
It is very easy to set up. It is a robust virtual environment and can be deployed within a few days. Typically, an environment can be set up in two, or three days. The most complicated part is migration from VMware. However, the new virtual Proxmox offers a built-in tool to directly connect to the VMware environment and convert the virtual machines to Proxmox. You need to have one person with expertise in network components and configuration for that part of the physical environment. The most important aspect is working with the vendors who supply your standard software. This is often the most challenging part. You need to contact support to help set up the new environment if something changes. This process usually involves more time and effort to get the vendors to ensure compatibility with Proxmox. Many people, including those at Zendesk, are often reluctant to assure that Proxmox will work with other unfamiliar systems. I rate the initial setup an eight to nine out of ten, where one is difficult and ten is easy.

"It's very user-friendly."
"The solution has good high availability."
"The solution's most valuable feature is backups."

"The initial setup was really straightforward and easy."
"The template option allows us to build a desktop in a VM, then quickly deploy as a linked clone."
"Many of my customers are moving away from VMware because of its acquisition by another company, which has resulted in skyrocketing prices, making it very expensive and viable only for larger enterprises."
"That the product is free and still has all the features you expect is a huge benefit."

Cons

"Odin Virtuozzo has poor support and needs to improve."
"The scalability could be better."
"We had some challenges with management including volume and storage management. Setting it up properly and making it work, specifically shared storage between the virtual machines, is difficult."
"The solution needs to improve its stability."
"The tool needs to add a lot of containers."
"Lacking in enterprise features."
"Some parts of the Proxmox installation are a bit complex. Proxmox relies on the ZFS file system, which can be difficult to understand and configure correctly. There is no documentation or videos to discuss the process."
"Proxmox VE editions should be made available to other Linux distributions because they are only attached to Debian."
"We are using servers individually, and we are looking for a reliable application that allows us to hop between servers with high availability."
