Significant backup for containers, but the customer service is terrible
Anyone considering this solution should not compare it to the old versions. They should be a partner with Virtuozzo and run all the certifications. Also, they need a good lab to understand the technology and how they can apply that technology conveniently. This is very commercial software. It does not have support, so you will need to be hands-on. I would rate Odin Virtuozzo a six out of 10 overall.

Experience enhanced performance and support with reliable server consolidation
We are working with Oracle VM and Oracle OLVM We have used both Oracle VM and Oracle OLVM. It has been four or five years since we started using these solutions. Both products are from Oracle. Oracle VM provides automation capabilities in the new version. We have been using this solution for…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"When you run templates on the containers on Virtuozzo they have a lot of back-ups."
"What I like best about this product is that it's free."
"Its technical support is quite good."
"Oracle VM is user-friendly and facilitates compliance with Oracle Licensing, a feature not provided by competitors like VMware or Hyper-V. Oracle prefers customers to use their technology. It is also easy to implement, clone, and deploy machines with Oracle VM, making it a convenient solution."
"The ability to live migrate VMs on the fly from one hypervisor to another has been very useful."
"It is a stable product."
"The most valuable aspect of the solution is the resource management from the OVM Manager."
"Cloning is the best feature in Oracle VM."
"The Foundation is the most valuable feature of Oracle VM."

Cons

"Odin Virtuozzo has poor support and needs to improve."
"We do have a little trepidation with systemd, as it does have a learning curve."
"The tool's price and stability could be better."
"Integrating with the internal system is not very easy."
"Our product had several issues with post-migration."
"The main drawback is having a single hardware with multiple logical domains. If I have limited systems and there is maintenance on the hardware, the Oracle systems are impacted."
"This solution is not as stable as other solutions in the market. But, Oracle has made an effort to improve these issues with recent updates."
"The automatic start of the product to work as a background process has shortcomings and needs improvement."
"If you do a gap analysis between VMware and Oracle VM, you can't do VM Snapshot. That's one thing you can't do. It's a sort of a snapshot, but it's not really Snapshot technology. It requires that you're running on CFS-2."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The license for Odin Virtuozzo is based on consumption on demand."
"Oracle VM is not expensive. I rate its pricing a three out of ten."
"We use the product's free version that is not licensed."
"Oracle is free of charge, although you have to have a subscription for the support."
"The solution as a standalone product can not be purchased."
"The solution comes for free with Oracle's x86 servers, called X9."
"The price of the license is expensive."
"The cost of scalability. You pay for what you use. It's free to download, free to install, and the support side has been very helpful."
"Oracle's VM VirtualBox is a powerful, free, and open-source virtualization tool."

If you want to access the VM from anywhere over the Internet, you put it in a public subnet. So, VMs are linked to that. The subnets are linked to it. So, it's perfectly secured if it's a private n...
