Significant backup for containers, but the customer service is terrible
Anyone considering this solution should not compare it to the old versions. They should be a partner with Virtuozzo and run all the certifications. Also, they need a good lab to understand the technology and how they can apply that technology conveniently. This is very commercial software. It does not have support, so you will need to be hands-on. I would rate Odin Virtuozzo a six out of 10 overall.

Has supported ethical training effectively but configuration needs to be more user-friendly
When evaluating Oracle VM, I have concerns about the configuration being too complex and not user-friendly. It doesn't perform optimally on iOS, which is an Apple laptop, but works very well on Windows. To improve Oracle VM, the configuration needs to be more user-friendly and less rigid. Additionally, compatibility with Apple laptops needs improvement as it currently doesn't work well on that platform.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"When you run templates on the containers on Virtuozzo they have a lot of back-ups."
"Oracle VMs and logical domains have proven reliable over the years."
"Within one day, we had migrated a physical to virtual server and then we had a database working, and it was like seamless transition."
"The biggest advantage of Oracle VM is that you can separate your clusters to get your licenses agreement in scope."
"Feature for feature, it does almost everything VMware does but cost a lot less."
"Its ease of management and simplicity are most valuable. It is free, and you can provision an unlimited number of VMs at no cost for clients. They also provide perfect support."
"It's a great product and becomes better with every release."
"I can dynamically adjust resources—it's stable and offers virtual functions."
"It is a stable product."

Cons

"Odin Virtuozzo has poor support and needs to improve."
"Odin Virtuozzo has poor support and needs to improve."
"The product needs to improve the backup and snapshot functionalities."
"I would say third-party plugins to other storage vendors. There are a lot of converged infrastructure setups; one that we have, multiple different hardware vendors."
"Xen running on Oracle VM differs greatly depending on whether you're using version 2 or version 3 in terms of directories, images, etc. So it takes some getting used to because they weren't released with consistent interfaces."
"An expanded data transfer option is one of the features I would like to have added."
"Integration with cloud products would be beneficial."
"It's a challenge for us to keep investing in it. We are a manufacturing company, not an IT company."
"You need to have a model for documentation available for the users. Right now, if you have to search for some troubleshooting, you need to have Oracle login. Many personnel might not have that login. The reach, the availability of information to the end-user, is not there."
"Customer Service: It was initially subpar. Technical Support: It was initially subpar."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The license for Odin Virtuozzo is based on consumption on demand."
"Oracle VM is not expensive. I rate its pricing a three out of ten."
"The pricing for the platform is aligned with other enterprise virtualization solutions."
"If you choose Oracle hardware, then this virtualization software is included along with support."
"All other vendors are selling their licenses to use the VM, but Oracle isn't doing that, which is its biggest advantage. It is free. All you have to do is get the hardware. You can create an unlimited number of VMs for free. With VMware, you have to purchase licenses for the number of VMs that you want to create. You only pay for their premium support, and even that is optional. I am now learning this product, and we can even do without the support."
"The solution is free but we have to pay for technical support."
"The solution comes for free with Oracle's x86 servers, called X9."
"The price compares well with other solutions."
"Oracle VM pricing is expensive."

If you want to access the VM from anywhere over the Internet, you put it in a public subnet. So, VMs are linked to that. The subnets are linked to it. So, it's perfectly secured if it's a private n...
