Enables efficient process mapping but requires improvement in maintaining server stability
The pricing of the solution can be quite expensive when compared to competitors, though IBM Blueworks Live stands out from a technical standpoint. IBM Blueworks Live provides clear ROI as it saves both time and money. I have successfully imported Visio flowcharts into both IBM Blueworks Live and ARIS. Both tools handled the imports successfully, though some manual intervention was required because Visio is quite a basic tool. Importing flowcharts into advanced tools such as ARIS and IBM Blueworks Live requires some manual effort. The primary advantage is the ease of use. I have not encountered any features in other tools that I couldn't find in ARIS. This is a major factor because I don't have to switch between tools to find specific features. Using ARIS for the past three years has built confidence and trust in the tool.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The licenses are transferrable between different users."
"You can use if from your mobile device or you can be on the desktop. It doesn't matter. You are always connected. It is cloud-based, so you don't have to install anything."
"The reporting that we can generate from IBM Blueworks Live has been interesting, as we found the KPIs, risks, process modeling, format, and colors to be very good."
"I don't think that there is another product out there quite like it."
"It has a built-in capability to capture process owners and managers against processes along with other process governance roles."
"Blueworks Live gives insight into where processes can be more productive, providing that "Ah ha!" moment from a visual perspective and making it easy to tweak, update, and refine processes, which drives continuous improvement and better decisions."
"For me the most valuable feature is that it's one depository for our bank, so it's not like everybody has their critical processes on SharePoint or on their desktops, because everything is centrally located and it's very intuitive and easy to use, and the support that I get from IBM is always great."
"The ease of documenting and digitizing the processes was valuable to us."
"I have to think less with this solution. It's simple."
"The solution is easily modified to suit your needs."
"Process modelling through object creation and management is beneficial as a very effective change management of processes at the object level, because if you need to modify a process and it will impact other processes as well, the object changed automatically changes in other processes as well."
"The solution has wide use within Microsoft products. The integration with Microsoft products, and, in particular, Microsoft Office, is great."
"There were lots of different requirements, and collaboration and review is one of the biggest things, there is also Office 360 integration, and there's flexibility to use it as a database as well."
"This flexibility is the most helpful part in the standard version."
"This is a flexible tool compared to some other solutions."
"The most valuable feature is its reporting capability. It offers various packages for different types of reports, such as business and project management reporting packs."

Cons

"The solution is stable, but there are some glitches and latency issues."
"We haven't yet been able to dabble in case management with Blueworks Live, as it is not yet offered with the product."
"There are a couple of things which are not there right now: The ability to create a very structured rule."
"I can't insert any images. For example, within the process map, if I want to put it in the box or rectangle, or circle. If I have to use one image or icon, that's not possible."
"I would prefer an on-premises solution for IBM Blueworks Live, and this could be a recommendation."
"The ability to create a very structured rule. With the capability that we have right now, Blueworks Live is more process focused. We should be able to enhance it to include a lot more of decisions as well."
"IBM Blueworks is BPMN 2.0 compliant, but it does not adapt to the overarching BPMN 2.0 concepts."
"There should be an option to import from and export to Microsoft Visio. Being able to move files back and forth between Blueworks Live and Visio would be good."
"It's a very simple tool, which makes me concerned with the performance."
"Overall, I would say that it's a poor man's EA repository. It seems like a good idea, but doesn't really work in practice."
"The migration tool needs to be included in the main package, and not as a separate license."
"There could be features for process mining, process simulation, and analytics."
"We could allocate permissions to use only specific components to the users rather than the entire instance."
"The modelling needs improvement, specifically forecasting capabilities and scenarios."
"iServer is a solid tool. Occasionally, we needed to contact the vendor to clarify details such as porting issues, missing components, and model specifics."
"The modelling needs improvement, specifically forecasting capabilities and scenarios."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"They have a free subscription model that gives a lot of power to the users."
"The solution is very, very cost-effective."
"We are seeing ROI from this solution. The solution has saved us time."
"Making it less expensive would be good."
"Based on the licenses purchased, from a footprint perspective, you can have as many people as you want. You have multiple different categories of licenses to keep the cost low."
"There are editor licenses that are around 50 euros per month, and contributor licenses that are around 30 euros per month."
"Price wise, IBM Blueworks Live is in the middle range, and I would give it a five out of ten."
"The solution is not very expensive."
"The product has a moderate pricing."
"The solution is cheaper than its competitors."
"They offer annual subscriptions for developing countries, which are not affordable for small or medium businesses."
"The price of iServer is reasonable compared to other solutions."
"It's about 13K to set up and 9K for the license for three months. I think it's about 20K a year, but we haven't firmed up on pricing yet because the price depends on how long we commit to the solution."
"Aim for the exact number of people who shall define/review approve and view the processes, as it will impact the cost."
