Reliable test automation, and test data creation with efficient support
The solution can be improved by removing the need for object matching in the framework. The latest version has increased load time before testing can be run. The reason is that changes were made to how it works with the browser and the startup takes some time. Adjusting those changes to speed up the load time will improve the solution.

The challenges I faced while integrating Selenium HQ into my existing systems relate to historical data, which requires going back six years. I have to traverse if there were any challenges because I am sure if there were any, they must have been documented in our ALM documents. The multi-browser support of Selenium HQ impacts my testing process primarily since it is being used in Edge and Chrome browsers. It all depends on our customers. I haven't heard of any challenges with other browsers such as Opera or Mozilla Firefox, as these two browsers are what we primarily use. When we were doing these tests manually, it took several hours of effort, and those hours, when counted on the basis of person days, used to be maybe six or seven months of effort, which we can now do every day by running the pipeline. This has definitely saved a lot of money for us.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The technical support is good; at least their response time is good, and whenever we ask them for help regarding deployment customizations, custom code implementation, or other code needs, they heavily support us, assign us IT engineers who work alongside us helping with code-related issues, and stay until the problem is resolved."
"IBM Rational Functional Tester is very contextual."
"Test automation is most valuable because it saves a lot of time."
"It is compatible with all sorts of Dark Net applications. Its coverage is very good."
"Robust API provides quick turnaround for developers to understand and automate functional test case quickly."
"By automating regression test suites using this product, we were able to show time savings of more than 1200 hours in less than ONE year."
"Test automation is most valuable because it saves a lot of time."
"It helps in automation by using better object recognition as compared to other tools in the market."
"The parallel batch execution as well as reporting feature in the tests are very valuable to me."
"The most valuable features are ExpectedConditions, actions, assertions, verifications, flexible rates, and third-party integrations."
"If you have the right people on hand, it works very, very well."
"The most valuable feature of Selenium HQ is the ability to configure a lot of automated processes."
"Selenium has improved the way we work because if you do what we need to do manually, you'll have to expend a lot of time."
"My customer previously validated every file and it would take almost 15-20 minutes for a document. They used to randomly select and test only 100 out of the thousands, maybe 85,000, files, to pick up sampling. Each file would take around 20 to 25 minutes, so we were not able to do it manually, but with the help of Selenium, we were able to test all the files in two days. It saves a lot of time."
"I like its simplicity."

Cons

"With version 8.5 we faced workspace crash issues frequently."
"If in the future there is no support for mobile applications, then we will be using it less."
"The latest version has increased load time before testing can be run."
"If the solution is running on Linux, there are some issues around application compatibility."
"If the solution is running on Linux, there are some issues around application compatibility."
"It does not fully justify being a paid tool, and it needs improvement."
"If you look at today's current context, I wouldn't recommend RFT because there are far more advanced solutions and products available."
"The latest version has increased load time before testing can be run."
"It would be better if it accommodated non-techy end-users. I think it's still a product for developers."
"For email-based applications, we can't automate as we would like to, making it necessary to bring in a third-party product to do so."
"It would be better if we could use it without having the technical skills to run the scripting test."
"They can improve test reporting, and more importantly on test scripts, by providing less constructs to automate more complex testing scenarios."
"The initial setup is little complicated the installation could be simplified."
"Selenium is good when the team is really technical because Selenium does less built-in methods. If it came with more built-in and pre-built methods it would be even easier for less technical people to work with it. That's where I think the improvement can be."
"I would like to see Selenium HQ support legacy platforms."
"It would be nice to see more frequent releases and more bug fixes."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Licensing is good but the prices for the products are expensive. A single-user license may go for something like $10,000 to $30,000. There are no additional costs, and support is included within that price."
