Parallel data processing streamlines operations while cost and cloud integration challenge adoption
The cost of the solution is on the more expensive side, which is a concern for me. Additionally, its promotion and interaction with cloud applications are limited. The cloud version is only available in AWS, and in the Middle East, it is not well-developed in the Azure environment. For the cost to be reduced, it should match competitors. Many features need to be incorporated on the cloud.

Have encountered complexity with programming language while working on large-scale data integration and have experienced improved governance and reporting
The only complexity I find with the product is the programming language; people find it harder, but once you know the language, it's not that difficult. Regarding the future of SAP Business Warehouse, I would to see added features that simplify the product very well now. They are coming up with a terminology called SAP BDC where they are consolidating their tools, SAP Data Sphere for integration and SAP BW for the ETL and warehousing parts, and SAP Analytics Cloud. They are packaging these three features and calling it Business Data Cloud; they are fully coming on the cloud. We have to wait and watch; they have been speaking about BW/4HANA for quite some time now, but the customers or clients I work with are not finding great interest and it was seen as a candidate for evaluation. I have seen people looking at the latest technologies who are already on cloud who started building from scratch on cloud, such as Snowflake or Databricks, which can process very huge amounts of data and also address unstructured data, where SAP lags behind in cases where there is a need to bring in unstructured data. I have worked with SAP Data Intelligence, which earlier used to be called SAP Data Hub. The unstructured data is not greatly handled in SAP at this point in time.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable features of the IBM Netezza Performance Server are the NPS server because of the reduced maintenance and overall good performance."
"Netezza can process all this amount of data and give a result in less than 40 seconds."
"It has been the primary driving technology behind the corporate wide transition to Netezza as a standard data platform."
"Our BI enviroment with Netezza, Cognos and Data Stage has been a great success"
"Compared to other RDBMS, Netezza provides much higher performance and much lower maintenance effort Compared to Teradata, lower cost and lower administration"
"We can process through more data much faster than we could with prior technologies."
"The benefit is really because of the additional speed that we have and, truth be told, the more updated ETL processes and the revamped scheduler in general."
"Speed storage RAM all of which contribute to large capacity."
"What I like most about SAP Business Warehouse is its ability to feed data into new, multiple systems in various formats. It can open its data to any system over gateway services or a portal or application that needs to consume and analyze data."
"The most valuable aspect of the solution is the integration with SAP ERP."
"SAP Business Warehouse is a scalable solution."
"In terms of stability, comparatively, the solution is quite stable."
"The solution has functionality that makes it easy for end-users to readily extract data directly from Business Warehouse into Excel and carry on their analysis on their own."
"The most valuable feature is the new version of Business Explorer Analyzer, which is a very good version because there are a lot of analytical features of Excel also."
"The most useful feature has been he ability to feed data into multiple systems in various formats."
"My advice would be if you have a data block and if you really want a big solution on the reporting side of it with slicing and dicing, definitely go ahead with BW when it comes to SAP related data."

Cons

"Disaster recovery support. Because it was an appliance, and if you wanted to support disaster recovery, you needed to buy two."
"The initial set-up was affected by the fact that we seemed to get a junior technician from IBM who was not as good as other engineers we have had."
"Data lineage on column or even object level does not exist, therefore external applications have to be used"
"Integration with XML is still not there for nzload utility."
"Stability comes and goes."
"Technical support has been awful. I found them unwilling to help, and with direct VPN connection to systems, unwilling to actually connect and look at information, which is part of our contract."
"Application development in Netezza is done using SQL scripts and stored procedures."
"IBM Netezza Performance Server could improve its interface, support for big data, and APA-based connectivity should be available."
"I would for sure like to see a different end solution in order to read the data and attract internal users."
"From a support perspective, SAP Business Warehouse is quite a complex module."
"When some things go wrong, it becomes extremely unreliable."
"The visualization should be improved, as well as the dashboards and advanced analytics."
"People are getting frustrated as they have to spend lots of time - 10 minutes to 15 minutes - generating the report."
"SAP Business Warehouse could improve by having more out-of-the-box use cases to cover more business types or operations."
"In the next release, my suggestion would be to have user-friendly interfaces and performance issues be addressed."
"A few things which are missing include the visualization of reports. That's where your costs and licensing become heavy. When it comes to this database compared Microsoft Warehouse, it's an expensive solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"For me, mainly, it reduces my costs. It's not only the appliance cost. There are also support costs and a maintenance costs. It does reduce the costs very drastically."
"The annual licensing fees are twenty-two percent of the product cost."
"The pricing is very expensive. It has a lot CPUs with a lot of components in it. It also has built-in redundancy for resiliency reasons."
"Expensive to maintain compared to other solutions."
"Netezza is a costly solution. It does serve a specific purpose but it's costlier than what's available in the market, if you go to the cloud."
"The solution has a yearly licensing fee, and users have to pay extra for support."
"SAP Business Warehouse licensing is a bit expensive compared to other products in the market."
"It's moderately expensive, but definitely has its branding and price value for it."
"I would not recommend it to small-scale companies. The price is too much."
"The licensing cost for SAP Business Warehouse depends on your revenue. Its licensing structure is a little bit complicated. The more your revenue is, the higher the price, but SAP does have different pricing structures for various companies. For small businesses, licensing isn't based on revenue, but for big companies, it's revenue-based. There's some agreement regarding pricing for huge companies, so it's different, and SAP Business Warehouse pricing isn't fixed. On a scale of one to ten, I'm rating the licensing cost for SAP Business Warehouse as five because it's very high. As your revenue grows, your licensing cost also increases, so you have to factor that in when calculating your cost."
"The license for SAP Business Warehouse is paid yearly, and there's no extra cost in addition to the standard licensing fees."
"It's quite pricey. SAP changed its pricing policy, so they give you one engine and then you have to buy everything next to it, like MSS, the BPC licenses, and everything else."
"Overall, the pricing is not fixed and is expensive."
"The solution is quite expensive."
