Affordability and security improve our cloud experience while learning new systems
I'm not working with any AI features in IBM Public Cloud, but they are in the process of building it.I am very satisfied with the security that IBM Public Cloud provides. I would rate IBM Public Cloud eight out of ten, where one is worst and ten is the best.

Cloud platform has supported cost control and database integration but still needs better metrics and storage
I have not used Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)'s networking solutions today. I studied it somewhat, but it is not my main area currently. We had some problems sometimes with Autonomous Database in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), for example, in the past months related to the asset of the metrics. We found problems related to what we wanted to show to the customer about the database because many metrics were missing. We usually worked together with members of Oracle Italia to ask them to introduce some metrics, for example, those that do not work correctly about CPU usage, memory usage, or network usage. There were some metrics in Oracle Autonomous Database in dedicated infrastructure that did not allow us to show correct information to the customer. We usually needed to ask Oracle Italia to introduce some metrics or clarify metric usage. In some cases, they showed incorrect data in the output, so we had to work with them to solve this problem. I am speaking about problems from approximately one year ago, so I do not know if they have fixed all of it now. One problem I faced in the past with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) was also related to documentation. Sometimes there are differences between Oracle Autonomous Database usage on shared infrastructures compared to dedicated infrastructures. When searching for documentation, it is not clear if one aspect or solution is usable in both technologies or on both shared and dedicated infrastructures. I found some documents proposed for Autonomous Database and then discovered that the case was applicable only for shared infrastructure, not dedicated. Oracle Italia explained to me that Oracle Autonomous Database on shared and dedicated are different products. However, I do not understand why if I have the same version of Oracle in both architectures, I cannot have access to some tools or internal packages in both technologies. We usually had to ask them to introduce also in dedicated infrastructures the use of some Oracle PL/SQL packages, some internal packages, for example, for the management of queues. Another aspect is that the storage of Oracle is not very user-friendly. In Autonomous, for example, where I think an autonomous database should manage storage correctly on its own, my experience is that often we have many allocated storage spaces that are free, but it is impossible to reclaim. We need to expand storage and pay for it, even though it is free. I think that regarding the internal management of storage, Oracle can improve.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The beauty of cloud service providers, especially public cloud service providers, is that they are scalable every time when you need them because their payment model is pay-as-you-go."
"The most valuable feature of IBM Public Cloud is the AI integrations."
"This is a predictable and dependable service."
"IBM Public Cloud is a stable solution; it gives you SLA notifications all the time of what could be done, what is going to happen in the next hour regarding downtime, or anything that affects you, and so far I never noticed any issue, so I'm very happy with the solution."
"In terms of performance, resiliency, and availability, it is second to none."
"One of the features that I really like about IBM Cloud is the flexibility where you can order your own hardware."
"It is easy to deploy what you need for the initial setup"
"It provides robust analytics and management tools to give customers complete visibility into their environment and infrastructure."
"The product is easy to use and deploy."
"The support is very good. They are giving good support."
"It's a very robust solution, especially for the environment that you move onto the cloud."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is that it is a cloud-based solution."
"The pricing isn't too bad."
"The deployment is most valuable feature."
"The initial setup is a little complex in terms of understanding what's required, but once we know what the business is looking for, it's easy to implement in the cloud."
"Clients are able to reduce their costs by using Oracle Cloud."

Cons

"Normally, for any cloud, we get a lot of information on the web, but that is missing in the case of IBM Public Cloud. We need some technical support documents. That is the only thing missing in IBM Public Cloud."
"An area for improvement in IBM Public Cloud is getting up-to-date information on how to set up everything. It's hard to find new documentation."
"Support could be improved."
"There is not a lot of support for this solution, which is something that needs to be improved."
"This solution can be very slow, which was a big problem for us."
"It could be more secure."
"An improvement that I would like to see is better configuration capability."
"The solution needs to be more autonomous. It should let the DL go to allow for more jobs on the cloud. It could have a better interface as well."
"Oracle Cloud's support could be improved because its second-line support has weak engineers who handle stuff a little bit slowly."
"The configuration through the cloud is complicated. It's not straightforward."
"In general, the systems application needs improvement."
"The portfolio should improve for the Oracle Cloud Platform. Oracle has to increase the services offered. New services should be added to be able to compete better with Amazon AWS which is the best, and the biggest service. Oracle Cloud Platform has a small portfolio, but it's a good one."
"The integration tools that they offer are quite complex to use."
"The price of the solution should be reduced to a price that people can afford."
"With the Oracle Cloud Platform, they have to give first some proper documentation with a step-by-step process. Then the customer is able to use it properly. Nowadays, the Oracle Cloud Platform requires lots of floor work."
"The tool should provide more options like other cloud services. Also, it should improve scalability with the free version."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"IBM Public Cloud is pretty cheap. They have an ongoing free tier that basically won't expire, so as long as your solution is small enough, you can have a test set that you can use for demos, which will cost you almost nothing."
"In order to be competitive, you have to commit to a contract for at least one year, but you pay a fixed monthly fee."
"IBM has a lesser price compared to other cloud service providers like Azure and AWS."
"It pretty much has a standard price. There is no hidden price with IBM Public Cloud."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a nine out of ten."
"We are using the trial version of this solution, so we have not paid anything."
"The licensing fees are straightforward and predictable."
"The price of IBM Cloud is very cheap compared to competitors AWS and Azure."
"Oracle Cloud Platform's pricing is comparable to other solutions, but it is definitely not cheap."
"It is cheaper as a solution model. It isn’t cheaper than SAP but offers more features and competition."
"I would rate the tool’s pricing a ten out of ten since it is expensive."
"The price for Oracle Cloud may seem expensive, but if you start comparing features and what Oracle offers, you'll realize that the pricing for Oracle Cloud is competitive. If you consider every aspect of Oracle Cloud, you'll see that its price tag is reasonable because it has a good user interface, user experience, and management. Oracle Cloud is a sophisticated infrastructure and the level of management it allows you to enjoy isn't available in other solutions, so I wouldn't worry about needing to invest huge money into it because it's a wonderful product to use."
"I compared Oracle Cloud Platform with other competitor providers like Azure, and I don't think Oracle is too expensive."
"We pay the subscription cost."
"Pricing needs to be improved."
"There is a subscription cost rather than licensing for this product."
