Using service virtualization, we are able to accelerate the testing and development activity
As per my working experience over the last three and half years with RIT/RTVS, I would consider the two following areas of improvement: * Reporting: In the recent release of RCPT, the "Usage graph" feature is included, but that still needs improvements in terms of UI and timeline filtering criteria. * Implementing custom functions is a bit of a tedious job, as ECMAscript does not support some of the standard JavaScript functions. Also, the Script editor window is not user-friendly .

Is scalable and easy to use, but the monitoring feature needs improvement
The support for Micro Focus Service Virtualization is better than that for other products. The technical support staff are highly skilled. Sometimes, we don't have to open a ticket. We can just go into the community and then talk to them directly. I would rate technical support at seven out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It has very easy and good validation techniques used for SWIFT, XSD, and WSDL validations."
"As we have used most of the MQ stub, "MQ recording" is the most useful feature."
"It is very stable, rock-solid, and there is a possibility of about 20-32% cost savings."
"IBM RTVS has many useful features, but support for IBM MQ over this tool is unbeatable."
"We have improved productivity about 90%."
"Indeed, I would recommend it; one major reason being that this product not only has a robust infrastructure implementation, it also has good technical support supporting standards from IBM."
"This product has provided us the capability to virtualize dependent systems, which has resulted in the following improvements to our organization: More productivity No dependency on third-party systems Faster test execution cycles."
"Shift-Left by enabling Build and QA teams to conduct Development Integration/ API / Performance / System Integration Testing Remove wait times for constrained services and speed delivery Reduce infrastructure costs Eliminate expenses from dev/test access to third-party services Reduce downtime risk"
"The most valuable feature is SAP virtualization."
"I was blown away with how fast the implementation was."
"We used technical support once in a while. The support is fantastic."
"Service virtualization enables our teams to create, develop, and test software against virtual services that simulate real service behavior with no constraints, available anytime."
"We choose HPE servers because they're rock solid."
"It's a much more cost efficient approach to server deployment."

Cons

"However, some peripheral features need vast improvement, namely the reporting and the dashboard areas."
"One of the biggest disappointments for me and my team was dependency on various patches, or so call clients for every single technology."
"User friendliness: I would rate it somewhere around 5/10 in terms of user-friendliness. It can be simpler to build stubs and middle-ware based test cases compared to the solution given by RTVS."
"They need to move it to the cloud."
"Reporting: In the recent release of RCPT, the "Usage graph" feature is included, but that still needs improvements in terms of UI and timeline filtering criteria."
"The stability of the product, it’s still a work in progress."
"As it stands now, the debugging capacity within the tool is fairly limited."
"Sometimes it stops working after switching remote and local servers."
"Early on though, we saw some stability issues with the design that would occasionally crash."
"HPE products are good, but they never make a product for a specific use."
"Pricing is always a concern for our clients, so my guess is if anything can be beat it's price."
"The monitoring feature is not impressive because they use Windows for so much monitoring. They set a lock on the window, and then we have to gather the information from the main monitoring feature in the Windows server. There is not enough capacity for problem solving performance issues."
"I am not impressed with the technical support provided by Micro Focus (for an official ticket)."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"IBM RTVS is not that expensive compare to other giants, but it is still much ahead of some other tool having less features."
"The product has a free trial available, which has saves on the initial investment costs."
"Micro Service Virtualization is very expensive. The pricing of this product is in line with all of the other big name-brand products."
"It's an expensive solution, but you can get discounts. You have to buy one server and one designer together, for example, and it may cost 15 million Thai Baht."
