Using service virtualization, we are able to accelerate the testing and development activity
As per my working experience over the last three and half years with RIT/RTVS, I would consider the two following areas of improvement: * Reporting: In the recent release of RCPT, the "Usage graph" feature is included, but that still needs improvements in terms of UI and timeline filtering criteria. * Implementing custom functions is a bit of a tedious job, as ECMAscript does not support some of the standard JavaScript functions. Also, the Script editor window is not user-friendly .

Is scalable and easy to use, but the monitoring feature needs improvement
The support for Micro Focus Service Virtualization is better than that for other products. The technical support staff are highly skilled. Sometimes, we don't have to open a ticket. We can just go into the community and then talk to them directly. I would rate technical support at seven out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"As we have used most of the MQ stub, "MQ recording" is the most useful feature."
"Indeed, I would recommend it; one major reason being that this product not only has a robust infrastructure implementation, it also has good technical support supporting standards from IBM."
"It has very easy and good validation techniques used for SWIFT, XSD, and WSDL validations."
"It is very stable, rock-solid, and there is a possibility of about 20-32% cost savings."
"IBM RTVS has many useful features, but support for IBM MQ over this tool is unbeatable."
"We have improved productivity about 90%."
"The purpose for this tool is very obvious and Micro Focus covers it very well."
"It is easy to use. This is what I tell my customers. The coding is easier to develop as well."
"This product has provided us the capability to virtualize dependent systems, which has resulted in the following improvements to our organization: More productivity No dependency on third-party systems Faster test execution cycles."
"Service Virtualization is key."
"Shift-Left by enabling Build and QA teams to conduct Development Integration/ API / Performance / System Integration Testing Remove wait times for constrained services and speed delivery Reduce infrastructure costs Eliminate expenses from dev/test access to third-party services Reduce downtime risk"
"The most valuable feature is that it reduces the dependency so that the down time of the environment is not a major cost. That cost can be used for something else like the cloud."
"We have a number of end points in the environment that are not terribly reliable, and with Service Virtualization we can replace them with something that is much more stable while gaining commonality, a high level of compliance, and reducing the likelihood of different problems being caused by different issues in multiple test environments."
"Service Virtualization plays a major role in transforming your development, testing, and operating engineer into a business engineer."

Cons

"User friendliness: I would rate it somewhere around 5/10 in terms of user-friendliness. It can be simpler to build stubs and middle-ware based test cases compared to the solution given by RTVS."
"Reporting: In the recent release of RCPT, the "Usage graph" feature is included, but that still needs improvements in terms of UI and timeline filtering criteria."
"One of the biggest disappointments for me and my team was dependency on various patches, or so call clients for every single technology."
"They need to move it to the cloud."
"However, some peripheral features need vast improvement, namely the reporting and the dashboard areas."
"More support for different protocols. I would love to see more wizards rather than relying on some custom coding, which you can use C# as well as Visual Basic scripting. In the service virtualization platform, I would love to see more wizard features as well as the ability to connect to an external database, which by the way, we have put an enhancement request in for. I'd love to see that in the service virtualization platform."
"HPE products are good, but they never make a product for a specific use. They make a product for the enterprise because that is their vision. They like multi-generational business plans. That means that they don't deliver small bits and pieces, but rather, they deliver to the enterprise."
"Early on though, we saw some stability issues with the design that would occasionally crash."
"I am not impressed with the technical support provided by Micro Focus (for an official ticket)."
"The stability of the product, it’s still a work in progress."
"HPE products are good, but they never make a product for a specific use."
"The integration with other solutions, such as ALM and Jira, should be improved."
"Sometimes it stops working after switching remote and local servers."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product has a free trial available, which has saves on the initial investment costs."
"IBM RTVS is not that expensive compare to other giants, but it is still much ahead of some other tool having less features."
"It's an expensive solution, but you can get discounts. You have to buy one server and one designer together, for example, and it may cost 15 million Thai Baht."
"Micro Service Virtualization is very expensive. The pricing of this product is in line with all of the other big name-brand products."
