Using service virtualization, we are able to accelerate the testing and development activity
As per my working experience over the last three and half years with RIT/RTVS, I would consider the two following areas of improvement: * Reporting: In the recent release of RCPT, the "Usage graph" feature is included, but that still needs improvements in terms of UI and timeline filtering criteria. * Implementing custom functions is a bit of a tedious job, as ECMAscript does not support some of the standard JavaScript functions. Also, the Script editor window is not user-friendly .

Is scalable and easy to use, but the monitoring feature needs improvement
The support for Micro Focus Service Virtualization is better than that for other products. The technical support staff are highly skilled. Sometimes, we don't have to open a ticket. We can just go into the community and then talk to them directly. I would rate technical support at seven out of ten.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"As we have used most of the MQ stub, "MQ recording" is the most useful feature."
"It is very stable, rock-solid, and there is a possibility of about 20-32% cost savings."
"It has very easy and good validation techniques used for SWIFT, XSD, and WSDL validations."
"The most valuable feature is SAP virtualization."
"The support for integration patterns and the ease of use to wizard-based utility is what I would consider the most important features for service virtualization platforms."
"HPE SV helped me and my ALM team minimize workforce, reduce costs, and transition from hardware to virtualization; my software is more secure preproduction."
"Service Virtualization cuts down dependency across dev as well as any third party components."
"Some of the key differentiators of this tool – Easy to use, built-in integration with HP tools like LoadRunner, ALM and UFT, built-in integration with revision control software, support for multiple technologies including SAP, support for network virtualization, and the ability to control virtual services from ALM, HP ServiceTest, LoadRunner, and UFT."
"Teams have reduced the amount of delayed development effort it takes to roll out a new product by leveraging a virtual service for development and then meeting up for a final integration test when it is complete."
"Shift-Left by enabling Build and QA teams to conduct Development Integration/ API / Performance / System Integration Testing Remove wait times for constrained services and speed delivery Reduce infrastructure costs Eliminate expenses from dev/test access to third-party services Reduce downtime risk"
"We have a number of end points in the environment that are not terribly reliable, and with Service Virtualization we can replace them with something that is much more stable while gaining commonality, a high level of compliance, and reducing the likelihood of different problems being caused by different issues in multiple test environments."

Cons

"Reporting: In the recent release of RCPT, the "Usage graph" feature is included, but that still needs improvements in terms of UI and timeline filtering criteria."
"They need to move it to the cloud."
"User friendliness: I would rate it somewhere around 5/10 in terms of user-friendliness. It can be simpler to build stubs and middle-ware based test cases compared to the solution given by RTVS."
"It could needs to be a lot more scalable."
"A lot of technology, a lot of Microsoft services, a lot of support to the functionality aspect of it - they need to mature a lot."
"The monitoring feature is not impressive because they use Windows for so much monitoring. They set a lock on the window, and then we have to gather the information from the main monitoring feature in the Windows server. There is not enough capacity for problem solving performance issues."
"Pricing is always a concern for our clients, so my guess is if anything can be beat it's price."
"Sometimes it stops working after switching remote and local servers."
"The developers area Performance testers"
"As it stands now, the debugging capacity within the tool is fairly limited."
"The integration with other solutions, such as ALM and Jira, should be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product has a free trial available, which has saves on the initial investment costs."
"IBM RTVS is not that expensive compare to other giants, but it is still much ahead of some other tool having less features."
"Micro Service Virtualization is very expensive. The pricing of this product is in line with all of the other big name-brand products."
"It's an expensive solution, but you can get discounts. You have to buy one server and one designer together, for example, and it may cost 15 million Thai Baht."
