It has helped in supporting the development of an Enterprise Data Model
Data model development: This has built-in ways to create multiple, separate solution data models, including ways to link to an Enterprise Data Model (EDM). Other objects are encyclopedia-wide and need a different approach for managing solution-specific diagrams with an ability to query, e.g…

Efficient documentation generation through organized model structure with a good price-performance ratio
Whenever I begin a new project with Sparx, I have to spend time training people on how to use it since it is not straightforward. Although it's a powerful product with plenty of features, it's not easy for even experienced users to find their way without guidance. This is not the most user-friendly solution.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It has helped in supporting the development of an Enterprise Data Model."
"The most valuable feature is the integrated data model, so if I change the name of an item, all models using that object are automatically updated."
"Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect is very flexible and it is simple to define the metamodel, and additionally, it is lightweight on resources."
"Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect supports multiple modeling languages like ArchiMate for database design, software lifecycle visualization, and team management."
"Now for the first time we have a complete reference architecture repository to build different target architecture for every large program and projects."
"The pricing of the solution is pretty good; it's reasonable, it works pretty well overall, it's easy to create all diagrams, it's easy to search within the solution, and it's very good software."
"Artifact templates are most valuable."
"Sparx EA beats all of these hands down on a cost/benefit analysis."
"When I confronted the developer team that I plan to switch from JIRA to EA, they were not really happy, but now, after a short while, they love it because they immediately see changes, have access to all the diagrams (ERDs, Sequence Diagrams etc.), always have the big picture, and wherever they are, they can simply right-click an element, click "Find in Diagrams" and see this element in context."

Cons

"The product is very outdated software; complex to use, and the GUI is a fat client so no mobile or web access."
"Running large and complex models (ours contained thousands of objects) does require a powerful machine with 8+GB of RAM."
"I have found the solution is lacking options. The general usability needs improvement and more compliance to CML definitions."
"I would rate technical support as OK. The forum was great. The actual support was only so-so."
"The templates for documentation should be enhanced to include complex documents such as template RFP, or Non functional requirements template."
"The model integrity is not the same as MagicDraw, so MagicDraw is a bit better as a tool."
"Sparx EA has limited visualization capabilities compared to leaders in this segment."
"MS Office integration works only with local .eap repository files, not with our Postgres repository. Half a year ago they promised to fix this bug, but still no improvement."
"The solution is difficult to learn. The documentation needs a bit of improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The licence has a costly upfront fee which gets you access. You have to pay an annual maintenance fee, which is less."
"The licensing is not as expensive as some of the other data modeling tools such as Erwin."
"It's reasonably priced for large organizations."
"Licenses are pretty low cost compared to, for example, ARIS."
"It's affordable. The only additional cost that we haven't yet figured out is the floating license. If you buy a floating license, you have to have a license management server, which comes at an additional cost that's not discussed. So, we haven't yet used the floating license. That’s because I haven't had a chance to figure that out."
"Its price is very good for the value that you get with it."
"We have an annual license, and it's very affordable."
"The pricing for ultimate version is steeply high."
