The solution reduced our operational expenditures and is able to identify points before we even noticed them
The management interface seems to be designed for high-resolution screens. Somebody with a smaller-resolution screen might not like the web interface. I run a 4K monitor on it, so everything fits on the screen. With a lower resolution like 1080, you need to scroll a lot. Everything is in smaller windows. It doesn't seem to be designed for smaller screens. When I change the resolution to 1080, I only see half of what I would on my big 4K monitor. It would be annoying to have to scroll to see the flow chart. They have a flow chart that goes top to bottom like a tree. On a lower resolution, it might be nice if that scrolls horizontally because it's long, narrow, and tall. It's only three icons wide, but it's 15 icons tall. I think it would be helpful to have the ability to change that for a smaller screen and customize the widget.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The automation and orchestration components are definitely the best part, as you can tell it what it can do and when, and just let it be."
"Customer Service: Perfect, with attention to details on every open ticket, and Technical Support: Top notch effort put into each support request."
"Customer Service: Excellent. We largely don't have to touch the product which has led to us missing out on an occasional feature."
"We no longer have to constantly manually manage host utilization to keep some hosts from running much hotter than others."
"Customer Service: Excellent. My rep always stays in touch and keeps us in the loop when changes are coming."
"Using the cost estimate to run our workloads in the cloud, we found 25% to 30% savings by staying on-premises versus going to the cloud."
"Turbonomic is one of the best software solutions ever written."
"Our ROI occurred in less than 6 months by allowing us to avoid a costly server upgrade that was planned for parts of our VMware infrastructure."
"We hired a third company to stress test the system and it was above and beyond in terms of what we expected."
"We efficiently move resources between major engineering projects."
"Automation and self-healing."

Cons

"I am not a giant fan of the new interface. I still use the older interface."
"The UI can be slow and occasionally hangs, requiring logging out and back in."
"Turbonomic needs to find how to have the appliance OS up to date. Per our security tool, it has missing patches."
"The deployment process is a little tricky. It wasn't hard for me because I have pretty in-depth knowledge of Kubernetes, and their software runs on Kubernetes. To deploy it or upgrade it, you have to be able to follow steps and use the Kubernetes command line, or you'll need someone to come in and do it for you."
"Initially the GUI was difficult to follow and find where things are. It's gotten better but the GUI could still use some work to make certain functions more obvious."
"Need to improve the report presentation. (Colors, graphs, fonts)."
"Interface needs to loose Flash completely and switch to HTML5."
"We are looking forward to the HTML5 interface."
"Oracle engine. Google and Azure API."
"Initial setup was complex at the beginning as the system was still lacking some important features, while every new release required a full reinstallation."
"We never had an issue with stability, but when we implemented the product, there were certain places where we weren't sure that they are completely aligned with our goals, in terms of how we use the system to get there."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"IBM Turbonomic is an investment that we believe will deliver positive returns."
"The product is fairly priced right now. Given its capabilities, it is excellently priced. We think that the product will become self-funding because we will be able to maximize our resources, which will help us from a capacity perspective. That should save us money in the long run."
"Price is a big one. VMTurbo was very competitively priced."
"I don't know the current prices, but I like how the licensing is based on the number of instances instead of sockets, clusters, or cores. We have some VMs that are so heavy I can only fit four on one server. It's not cost-effective if we have to pay more for those. When I move around a VM SQL box with 30 cores and a half-terabyte of RAM, I'm not paying for an entire socket and cores where people assume you have at least 10 or 20 VMs on that socket for that pricing."
"What I can advise is to trial the product, taking advantage of the Turbonomic pre-sales implemention support and kickstart training."
"In the last year, Turbonomic has reduced our cloud costs by $94,000."
"It was an annual buy-in. You basically purchase it based on your host type stuff. The buy-in was about 20K, and the annual maintenance is about $3,000 a year."
"It is an endpoint type license, which is fine. It is not overly expensive."
