Cloud data catalog has streamlined lineage and quality while leaving more automation to improve
I have not explored IDMC's automation capabilities driven by AI and metadata too much at the moment, but it is on the cards. We are basically creating the foundation, as the whole migration has taken place recently and it is still early days. I think Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC) is evolving, and as the vendors move forward, they pick up new concepts from each other. I have seen that products leapfrog each other, and from my experience over the years, the big players tend to copy features or add enhancements based on industry trends. I feel whatever the tool does not have now, there is a feedback loop allowing us to request new features, and we continually ask for different ways to do things as we have a pipeline into the product management team. It is difficult to say what additional features I would prefer to see in the next release of IDMC. I would appreciate more automation on the lineage front, with more AI to seamlessly join independent sources and create seamless lineage between different technologies, such as from file into database A into a different database and landing up in a reporting system such as Cognos, Qlik, Qlik Sense, QlikView, or Power BI.

Real-time integration and seamless data synchronization enhance user experience
The stability of Oracle GoldenGate Cloud Service is one of its most useful features, although its performance is not too steady. It excels with bidirectional data synchronization. It supports diverse databases and platforms. We link the ODS with numerous source systems, including Oracle, Tarek Data, and Microsoft, with no integration issues. The solution caters to enterprise needs, fitting any organizational requirement, apart from data security issues common to cloud solutions. The cloud data security challenge is notable, necessitating solutions such as private cloud offerings to allay security concerns.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable features of Informatica MDM are the IDQ and RDM data management."
"Scalability is on par or better than any other solution on the market, with one of our customers having over 21 million SKUs in PIM and others having hundreds of international users."
"I particularly value data replication and data sync jobs."
"It has a more UI-based tool, and the scripting is good."
"The tool's most valuable feature is bulk upload. We upload files in CSV or Excel format."
"Informatica Cloud Data Integration is good overall."
"Informatica Cloud Data Integration has a strong enterprise customer base and this is one of the main reasons why we choose to work with them."
"We primarily used Cloud Data Profiling to connect with Cloud Data Governance, a tool also used by Teva. This integration allowed users to access data quality results within the data governance catalog."
"Oracle GoldenGate Cloud Service is valued for its ability to replicate data in real-time, offering significant benefits from a data perspective."
"Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"This has significantly eased the process of migration from on-premise to cloud, as instead of configuring everything from the ground up, the Oracle GoldenGate Cloud Service has made it seamless to build and render databases in cloud."
"The stability of Oracle GoldenGate Cloud Service is one of its most useful features, although its performance is not too steady; it excels with bidirectional data synchronization and supports diverse databases and platforms."
"GoldenGate's best features are the desktop security features."
"It provides a good response for external microservices applications."
"We are heavily involved with GitHub for managing repositories, automatic deployments, and inner source projects."
"GoldenGate is a good solution to implement in terms of scalability and flexibility."

Cons

"The main issue probably has nothing to do with end users, but installation can definitely be simplified."
"Informatica Axon's response times and certain aspects of the admin panel could be enhanced for better usability."
"There's no direct way to connect to Amazon APIs from Informatica Cloud."
"It needs to be a little more intuitive but it’s really not bad."
"There are various areas for improvement in IDMC. Enhancements on the UI front, such as multiple templates and improved grid views, would be beneficial."
"One area that could use improvement is the speed of the web interfaces. At present, they are very slow. I think it is essential that we are original and robust on-premises."
"You cannot import the data discovery rules you create in the solution to the Cloud Data Governance and Catalog (CDGC)."
"This is a costly solution. We have several customers who evaluate it but then look for other solutions because of the cost. At present, Informatica MDM comes as an on-premises or cloud-based solution. I would like to see them offer a SaaS-based MDM model. I think they are working on it."
"With Oracle GoldenGate Cloud Service, we have usual cloud solution issues such as privacy and data security."
"Oracle GoldenGate Cloud Service lacks AI. If AI gets introduced in Oracle GoldenGate Cloud Service, it would be much easier to do analysis."
"Pricing is rather expensive. Oracle typically prices on the higher side, and there is scope for them to reconsider the price, especially since it is a cloud service."
"More technical documentation is needed, especially in terms of mapping and conversion of data, while integration would also be very helpful."
"Support could be improved. They lack knowledge."
"The initial setup was a little complex, and we required support from Oracle to complete it."
"Oracle is always adding new features. I can't think of anything that's urgent currently."
"I am not very happy with Oracle Support. Over the past four to five years, I have experienced many problems when opening support requests."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Comparatively, their prices are a little bit too high."
"We got a 50% discount."
"I rate Informatica MDM's price a six on a scale of one to ten, where one is a low price, and ten is a high price."
"I have no idea what the price actually is. It is probably not going to be the cheapest, but it is a pretty stable and robust platform from the backend standpoint."
"It's offers value for money. They're more competitive with respect to pricing and offerings."
"Informatica Axon is a costly solution. I rate Informatica Axon a four out of ten for its pricing."
"You can purchase licenses for this solution at different intervals. For example, annually or every three years. They recently changed their terms for licensing and now it is more flexible."
"Informatica is very expensive."
"I rate the product price a six on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive."
