Enables customers to manage security effortlessly with intuitive features and easy integration
In terms of improvements for Fortinet FortiGate, they could offer evaluation licenses, as compared to Meraki, which provides a 90-day evaluation. In Fortinet FortiGate, they do not provide standard evaluation licenses; instead, we need to request them from the OEM through the account manager for POCs. If we want to conduct a demo, we need to work with real hardware. In comparison to Cisco, we have DCloud, which helps with providing demos to customers, but in Meraki, I need to reach out to them, book a lab, and they need to provide all the hardware. I need remote access and L3 engineers to program it; only then can I offer a real-time demo to the customer.

Firewall deployment has secured mission-critical public apps and simplifies Linux-based management
The best features IPFire offers include its very intuitive nature because, even though it has a Linux back-end, in terms of configuration, it has a very rich GUI interface. The GUI and configuration features of IPFire have made my work easier and more efficient because their positioning and the sequence with which I follow is easy. In terms of all the processes, what you need to do at first and the next thing that you need to do is clear. The GUI is well arranged in sequential order, so you can follow that from whatever you want to do until you get the target objective. IPFire includes features with a very robust and rich community that is very much valid in terms of content. IPFire has positively impacted my organization by giving us some mileage. At least, a lot of organizations now know that we have a solution that can deliver the same value.

Leveraging geo-tagging and web filtering for enhanced network security

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Because of the flexibility, the advanced user features, the high level of security controls, and the tweaks that are available for the user, I would rate this solution an eight out of ten."
"The features that prevent internet connections, the filtering are the most valuable because we did not have any internet protection before."
"The multi-tenancy feature is most valuable. It integrates very well with FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer."
"Fortinet FortiGate is among the best options in the market."
"Having FortiGate allowed for easy management of the network, protection from threats by having a very intuitive administration console."
"The features that we have found most valuable are the SSL VPN and the User Portal."
"Fortinet FortiGate is good for helping you secure and protect mission-critical data."
"The product is very user-friendly, it is quite scalable, I love the interface, the power is great, and I have a limited embedded team in IT with one man on the team for 1,000 users who can manage all the infrastructure due to the fact that the console is very easy, and the people are very happy with the results pertaining to that interface."
"I would rate the stability as ten out of ten for IPFire."
"IPFire has prevented any kind of hacking and enables us to comply with customer requirements."
"Regarding IPFire's AI capabilities, I think they are quite focused; in all the deployments I have done, I have not had any incidents or breaches."
"At the end of the day, our customers are being managed, looked after, and they're secure, so they're happy."
"I have found the most valuable features of Kerio Control to be the IPS and firewall."
"The most valuable features include geo-tagging, which blocks all other IPs except for the specified accounts, and web filtering."
"The interface control manager where we can allocate LAN connections to certain VLANs is the most valuable feature. The other feature that's important for us is because obviously everything is remote with MyKerio, as long as the boat has an internet connection, we can log onto the Kerio and get statistics, as well as provide support."
"We have many customer sites and the solution gives us control over bandwidth internet."
"I use Kerio Control for user statistics, intrusion detection and prevention (IPS), web filtering, etc."
"The solution’s firewall and intrusion detection features are quite good because you can see exactly who is attacking you and who is getting blocked."
"The initial setup is a breeze."

Cons

"After four years it has started to fail. The firewall engine is not so strong as of now, in my opinion."
"I feel that the reporting needs to be improved."
"The web process often has a memory leak."
"The major problem with Fortinet is the support. We have often hardware malfunctions and software bugs and the support is slow."
"They should do a better job in testing when they put out a new release because when a new software version is released, it is not always stable or does not always have all the previous features working correctly."
"Security level could be increased."
"The union with the two technologies, endpoint, and firewall, doesn't work well."
"I wish that they could integrate zero-trust technology into Fortinet FortiGate. I am not sure whether it has been done already, but if they could implement that, it would help significantly."
"I would rate IPFire 8 out of 10 because I do not think there is any solution anywhere in the world that is 100 percent efficient."
"Accessing the internet was a bit complicated."
"The graphical interface could be much better."
"I would like to see a little improvement in their technical support when you have a problem. I may be a little jaded because I came from Kerio when we could call and get a person on the phone who worked on the product. Every tech had their own demo setup. They had instant messaging capability with the developers. If we found a problem, then we could get a result for it quickly. Now, the product seems to be 24 hours. They have also gone to the model that if you need quicker support, then they now charge you additional for the exact same level of support that they used to give. I am assuming it's the exact same level of support that they say it is. I'm not paying extra for it. That's the biggest flaw with the product."
"If I would suggest anything, it would be to expand on its multifactor authentication to be a little bit more user-friendly."
"I would like for them to add more security features."
"If a hardware issue arises with a firewall, then it takes at least a week, maybe a week-and-a-half, to get a new firewall sent by GFI; that's really not acceptable."
"I would like to be able to automatically send email from Kerio Control and have it tell me what my external IPs are, because on one of my lines I have a fixed IP address and on the other it is variable. If there were a permanent way for me to figure out, "Okay, my current external VPN and my firm IP is this," it would help. I need to know the IP address to connect with the VPN and, at the moment, one of the lines sometimes changes its IP address without me knowing it. It's a hassle to figure out what it is."
"If you have to dive deeper into the firewall or any other features, then you really have to read up a bit about how to set it up properly."
"The stability is pretty good. I've only had one issue with it before. It was set to update on its own, and it didn't update and the update failed, so it didn't come back on for some reason."
"Filtering of pages and greater personalization in services need improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product is expensive compared to one of its competitors."
"I rate the pricing an eight and a half on a scale of one to ten, where one is low, and ten is high."
"We saved a bundle by not needing all the past appliances from an NGFW."
"FortiGate Next Generation Firewall is a very cheap solution."
"Its pricing is good. It's average or normal as compared to Palo Alto and Check Point firewalls."
"The product is expensive. I rate its pricing a six out of ten."
"Licensing for Fortinet FortiGate is on a yearly basis. Pricing for it is a bit high. It could be cheaper."
"The tool's pricing is neither cheap nor expensive. Overall, I find it to be competitive in the market."
Information not available
"The biggest advice that I could probably give people is when you buy the solution be prepared to either buy the unlimited license or buy more licenses than you think. Each user license gives you one employee and each a user gives you five devices. In the world nowadays where everybody has a cellphone, tablet, desktop, and laptop, that's four devices. You still get one more device per person. That covers your servers and back-ends."
"KerioControl's pricing is good."
"There's a one-time fee. For KerioConnect, it's just a server. With KerioControl, you have an option. You can virtualize it on a VMware system or have the hardware. I think mid-range or desktop KerioControl hardware could cost around 2000 dollars for a 25 user client. You need annual renewal for additional features like antivirus."
"There is a yearly upkeep fee."
"I pay approximately $50 for the solution on an annual basis."
"GFI has made a stupid decision regarding small office licensing. For offices where there are only three to five employees and had five years towards a five user product, they now force these customers to a 10-year user license. I really don't understand it. It's a stupid decision for the small offices who want a good solution for security because they'll probably decide to go to another product. Why should they buy something that they don't use?"
"My advice is to use your own hardware, and do not use theirs."
"The price of the solution is reasonable. For additional costs, you can add on more features such as antivirus."
