Low-code platform has accelerated enterprise app delivery and has reduced team size
Mendix has evolved as much as possible, and they are currently planning to automate tasks using AI agentics and other features. Every day presents a learning opportunity for developers using Mendix and the teams involved in improving the platform. One needed improvement I have noticed while working with Mendix is in native mobile development, which still lacks features available in other development environments like Android Studio or Flutter. Certain components that should be available in 2026 are still not present in Mendix, making it difficult to explain limitations to customers. This aspect needs further attention, especially for native mobile development.

The security part of the tool is not so strong, making it an area I would like to see improved in the solution. When working with a cloud tool, it's never 100 percent secure and it is always something to take into account. I would like to be more comfortable working with it and feeling safer. In the future, the tool can be made faster. In the future, I would like to see maybe some AI features in the tool to help automate stuff. You need to be able to create your own models to help create some automated actions.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Mostly, the students are very excited about the product due to the fact that they can make applications without coding."
"We were able to completely refactor middleware from SAP BPM to Mendix in a relatively short time and the product created a common language between developers and business analysts that facilitated the translation of business requirements, frequent validation, and modification to the technical solution, reducing a few development cycles which is crucial with short-term projects."
"In short, Mendix has improved our ability to delight our customers."
"Those making use of the solution are happy with it."
"Mendix is an excellent tool to put the business in charge again for realizing IT projects."
"On a recent project, using Mendix cut development time by about 40-50% compared to traditional coding for a workflow app."
"Most valuable is the fact that the Mendix platform provides all the tools for creating and deploying business applications in one complete package."
"After implementing Mendix, they reduced by 98% the engineers' relocation, as 98% of the cases are now being done by video calls instead of in-person appointments, which says a lot, even though the company didn't provide any numbers on how much is saved."
"The most valuable feature of the product is being able to test on multiple platforms for Oracle, for VMware, and so on."
"Moving to Oracle Cloud has addressed some of our major concerns with having to manage the infrastructure, which needs better scalability, integrated security, and better database access."
"One key feature is getting to choose the Virtual Machine configurations while setting up the server, which is an automated process."
"It offers easy provisioning, and we were able to get a server up and running in an hour."
"Self-provisioning, easy to choose from WebLogic 11g to 12c."
"It is pretty easy to use."
"Demoing is always an expensive process, from procurement of hardware to installation of software, now it is easier, cheaper, and more elastic."
"The product is very good, fine-tuned, and stable, and support is available 24/7 and is really fast and effective."

Cons

"Mendix needs to think about itself offering machine learning and artificial intelligence."
"Mendix is not cheap. License fees go sky high when using it as a business to consumer platform."
"Reporting isn't Mendix' strong suite."
"Generally, the customer support takes around two weeks to respond to support tickets, but everything gets resolved."
"As mentioned, there needs to be an increase in the number of the UI components so that other platforms will not be used in place of the UI interface of Mendix, such as Angular."
"The cost of total ownership needs to be better. The licenses are very expensive."
"ROIs at this stage is not good because of the high license fees."
"We have tried to contact commercial support by phone and email but they never responded to any of our attempts."
"There are issues with the application's development, including small glitches and errors."
"Customer service could be improved."
"So far, the only issue I have is with the storage cloud."
"The product is satisfactory but we need more training on managing the machine itself. For example, how do we add more storage, how do we extend a specific portion? I would like to see videos illustrating some of the technical tasks that we often need to do."
"Some of the automated platform patches broke our existing functionality and we were not notified about it."
"The security part of the tool is not so strong, making it an area I would like to see improved in the solution."
"The product is satisfactory but we need more training on managing the machine itself."
"It needs to have the ability to create a service with the same name as another one when the initial creation failed as sometimes it's necessary to have a service with exact name."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There is a license required to use Mendix. The solution's price is high, but it is best suited for enterprise companies that have the budget. It is not for small or medium-sized businesses."
"Pricing used to be complex, but Mendix has improved that quite a bit."
"I would not recommend the solution to small and medium-sized businesses because it’s expensive. It’s great for big organizations. I rate the pricing as a three out of ten."
"Initially, we started with a year for approximately $25,000, and if we need to expand the number of seats then we will increase it."
"From a commercial point of view, we would like them to change that they currently sell it as a platform, but as a customer you have to decide upfront the usage of the platform. We would like to have Mendix sell it as a pay as you go model: You pay for what you use, and you don't pay for what you don't use."
"Mendix licensing cost is based on the number of apps you have on the server. At the basic level, it is free of charge, so that seems reasonable, but once you go beyond that, and when it comes to the number of users on the app, that basic structure doesn't work, and the pricing tends to get a little bit steep."
"Licensing costs are similar to those for all other IT technology, but they vary by region."
"Mendix seems a bit expensive. But in terms of wanting to have less developers and higher velocity, the total cost of ownership is fine. It's not cheap, though."
"It is somewhat expensive."
"Oracle is a little more expensive right now, but not much compared to SAP. Oracle's prices are very much dependent on the scale of the project and how many users are there."
"Oracle Java Cloud Service is an expensive product."
