Effective product tracking and monitoring enhances daily operations despite needing documentation improvement
The documentation part of Workspace ONE UEM can be confusing. The documentation is not comprehensive compared to other VMware solutions or Microsoft documentation. Most people struggle to connect the dots when looking at the documentation. Even the training material and PowerPoint slide decks that trainers use are sometimes too confusing or overwhelming, with too much content but not enough clarity. The support side has recently become weaker compared to what it used to be with VMware. This is another area that needs improvement. Since working with Workspace ONE UEM from when it was AirWatch, it has improved significantly over the last five years. However, there are still some gray areas and scope for improvement, especially in documentation and workflow between different aspects of the solution.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Perform an initial analysis before deployment, define your targets, and then manage the design and deployment according your targets (especially configurations and policies)."
"Accessing documents on your mobile while traveling is essential."
"High Availability on Core and Sentry, Apple DEP support, MAM, and the BYOD Portal are valuable."
"The most valuable feature depends on the use case of the clients. However, one feature I like is the Kiosk Mode. In the Kiosk Mode in most cases, the clients only can make available one application developed by the solution and permit the employee or the final client to use only this one application for interaction. This provides a security control layer limiting only one application functionally."
"From a pricing perspective the VMware offering looks interesting I have to say."
"Basically, the data containerization and the ability to publish and consistently push apps is the most valuable aspect of the product."
"VMware is the better solution versus other things that are out there."
"The most valuable feature is single sign-on."
"The Organization group approach they have taken to manage both Device and Administrative access has helped in providing administrators with a way to separate devices based on business use cases."
"What I found most valuable in VMware Workspace ONE is that it's user-friendly."
"Once you get to know the solution it's quite simple to use."

Cons

"Reporting and custom reporting, containerization, more readable and assessable documentation, better technical support and better trained staff."
"Better connection to document servers e.g Sharepoint etc. is needed."
"Customer Service: 4 out of 5. Technical Support: 3 out of 5."
"They need a more flexible pricing model."
"From an identity perspective, there is a lot of room for improvement when it comes to integration with other solutions. I would say it needs more capabilities in terms of direct integrations, including cloud identity solution integrations."
"There are other solutions that might be better for certain use cases. This is not an all-purpose solution."
"Customer Service: With Enterprise Service agreement it is a 5/10. Without Enterprise Service agreement it is a 3/10."
"Support is probably the main challenge that we have. Their support was not very good."
"Many of the features that exist in Active Directory do not exist in Identity Manager, which means that people depend on Active Directory."
"I would like to see some integration with native Microsoft products such as Anti-value."
"vIDM could be improved with the multi-tenant capabilities that VMware tends to offer—features like customization branding and the integration of the app catalog based on the branding. Since the integration has been at top-level OGs, you were not able to then do rebranding if you were required to use specific user groups to highlight specific applications. At the time, I was personally opening feature requests for these things. I haven't worked with the latest release, so I don't know if these features were already deployed or not."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"There is a licensing fee for the users, and we pay a low amount for our support costs."
"For the moment, we have a multi-year contract, meaning that we cannot go with a different solution at this time even if the price should prove more favorable."
"A person should pay towards the licensing costs of VMware Identity Manager on a yearly or monthly basis, but government and public sector units cannot for a perpetual licensing model."
"Workspace ONE is on the higher end of the pricing band when compared to other players in the market."
"The price of VMware Workspace ONE is expensive. However, for the features that are provided, the price is reasonable. There is a subscription to use the solution."
"Depending on the requirements of users, there is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing costs attached to the product."
"I think that the price is reasonable."
"It's a highly affordable solution"
