Native encryption ensures secure data management with a simple deployment
The most valuable feature is the on-premises data encryption facilities. By default, we can provide encryption, and this feature in MySQL is why we prefer it over other databases. The native encryption in MySQL encourages us to use this database model more frequently compared to Oracle and other databases. With Oracle, we have to buy another solution for encryption and masking, but MySQL supports native encryption, which enhances our return on investment. It perfectly supports our ROI, and we have no issues with its functionality.

Self-maintenance features reduce downtime and improve efficiency but enterprise edition limits can be restrictive
The availability of different editions within Oracle Database Cloud Service could be improved. The model divides their standard edition versus enterprise editions into two categories and limits the standard edition on a particular configuration set. This limitation, such as the thirty-two vCPU limit, should be removed. Another area for improvement is the affordability of the enterprise version.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I rate the solution's stability a ten out of ten since it has been running flawlessly."
"It is a very stable solution. I deployed the product six years ago, and it still works fine."
"MySQL is an open-source product and has good community support. If you encounter any problem, you can easily ask other members of the community to help. They help you a lot. On top of being free, MySQL is a cross-platform database, meaning it can work on both Windows and Linux. It is very good for us."
"It's a good tool, a good database platform."
"The feature that I have found most valuable is its ubiquity. MySQL is everywhere, so if I need to find a developer to do things to it that I don't know, it's very easy to find someone who has expertise in it."
"MySQL is open-source. There are a lot of open-source communities trying to come up with their own patches, and to come up with their own features, which help MySQL develop faster than traditional databases like Oracle, which is closed source."
"Setup is easy. MySQL of various flavours has community editions to easily test, deploy, and run."
"MySQL is a popular database platform for businesses because it is extremely easy to use."
"What I like best about Oracle Database Cloud Service is its nice performance. My company doesn't have any problems with the service. The technical support for it is also good. My company is satisfied with Oracle Database Cloud Service. I also like the availability of the service. It's a trustworthy service. I didn't experience any downtime from it. My company also has additional features included in the contract, such as WAP, which makes operations easier. My team can implement all the architecture with the features and services that Oracle Database Cloud Service offers. Technically, this is a very, very, good product or database, whether on-premises or on the cloud."
"The most valuable feature of Oracle Database Cloud Service is its cloud capabilities."
"The most valuable features of Oracle Database Cloud Service are its scalability, advanced technology, cost-effectiveness, and the flexibility it provides with licensing."
"The product’s most valuable feature is affordable pricing compared to other providers."
"It is a very stable program."
"Data storage is the most valuable feature of Oracle Database Cloud Service."
"I am impressed with the product's partitioning and advanced data card."
"Security is the most valuable feature provided by the product."

Cons

"In MySQL, we need to define every table beforehand."
"Its scalability can be better. It is probably not as scalable as Oracle. I had some issues with connectors. I used it from a C++ program, and it required some work to make it run, but finally, it worked."
"I would like to have the ability to cancel a query in SQL Developer."
"The only service which could be improved is its usability. The entire user experience needs to be revamped to meet the 2018 design standards."
"There should be an arrangement for end-users to get trained to use the tool...Improvement-wise, a graphical interface could be added for new users, eliminating the need to memorize the complex syntax."
"Sometimes, I get lost in the toggles and buttons, and a better visual design would be nice. The layout is not user-friendly or efficient."
"Clusters are hard to perform so we use no SQL alternates like MongoDB."
"MySQL's performance needs to be improved for enterprise-level applications compared to Oracle and Postgres."
"The pricing must be improved."
"Oracle Database Cloud Service is a good engine and at the moment, there isn't any new feature I can think of that I'd like added to the service. The only problem I see in Oracle Database Cloud Service is it's more commercial, so it has a relation to how it deals with customers. I don't feel secure in a deal with Oracle because that team changes the conditions each year, and there's no representative from the team that talks to my company about new needs. Oracle needs to improve its relationship with customers and partners in general."
"Oracle should work on the solution's compatibility issues with the operating system."
"We encountered connection failures for some of our sites."
"Oracle Database Cloud Service has room for improvement in handling large-scale applications."
"Oracle Database Cloud Service could improve by adding some cross-region replication features."
"We're actually going through licensing issues and are looking to perhaps changing to another solution, something that is perhaps open-source."
"The initial setup is a bit complex for the beginner, so you need a little technical experience to install it."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"This product has a good price point."
"There is a licensing cost because we are going for a proprietary product. There are some other versions for which there is no licensing cost."
"Microsoft licensing for SQL Server is probably ten times more expensive. I used to work for the government, and I remember when we were looking into upgrading to the enterprise version of SQL Server 2019, the licensing was going to cost 350,000. To get the equivalent in the cloud, it was going to be about four grand to get the same processing power and everything else. With MySQL, it was going to be about 300 for the same licensing. Cost-wise, for sure, there is a huge difference. Would you prefer to pay 300 a month or 3,000 to have the same amount of data resources? You might lose a few options that you need, but it isn't worth the price difference."
"I don't pay for a license."
"For the on-premise version, no license is required."
"We are using the free community edition of MySQL."
"MySQL Enterprise Support is not cheap, though might still be cheaper than Oracle or SQL Server. They may not have local support depending on where you’re based, but there are many smaller agencies out there that will readily provide support. You’ll need to spend some time looking around."
"It's free."
"Price is always higher for all Oracle products."
"The product has reasonable pricing. I rate its pricing a nine out of ten."
"Pricing for Oracle Database Cloud Service could be more competitive. Lately, pricing for it has been increasing, so my company may have to review different options to find a solution with competitive pricing. From what I know, there's no additional cost apart from the standard licensing fees for Oracle Database Cloud Service."
"I think the program is rather expensive, so I would like to see it becoming more affordable."
"Every year we are increasing the price of the solution. There is hardware licensing available. We pay approximately $20,000 monthly to use the solution."
"The tool is not cheap."
