Positive impacts seen with improved data security and reliable support
I have six months of experience with the product, and as a consultant, the use cases for NetApp AltaVault mainly stand out for me. Regarding the deduplication feature in the product, I am interested in whether clients are using it. There are different integrations available with NetApp AltaVault, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and I want to understand how they impact data security policies in my case.

Given its ease of use and management, I believe there are no specific caveats that users need to be aware of during the setup of DXRIS for backups. The process was straightforward, and I did not encounter any challenges or issues. As for a rating on a scale of one to ten, with one being the worst and ten being the best, I would rate the Quantum DXI Series a nine. My deduction is primarily influenced by personal preferences, particularly regarding the user interface and it is a highly commendable system, I would rate it a solid nine out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Leverage the SE and the technical expertise within NetApp; they offer really great services, and they'll provide you with an honest approach to how to address your business problems."
"You can store backups for a while."
"It took an entire silo of complexity and simplified it to a device in the cloud."
"Its initial setup is easy."
"We're doing AWS S3 with Glacier with cloud-based backup and the integration is good, as it works with Veeam and Commvault."
"The deduplication engine. Right now, we're at about 10.5 to 11 times deduplication of our backup data."
"The most valuable features of the solution stem from the fact that it is easy to use and integrate with whichever operating systems you use, providing you with a complete view, especially when you plan to migrate to some other operating system."
"It's been very helpful for us in our environment and what we do."
"While the challenges posed by the difficulties were significant, they prompted the replacement of problematic components, resulting in the resolution of issues. Importantly, there were no substantial ongoing concerns. Regarding the overall performance, it has been consistently excellent."
"I am impressed with the tool's technical alliance with Veeam and Veritas."

Cons

"The product must provide multi-gate connectivity."
"What could be helpful is different user base authentication so then maybe we could allow different customers to point to a single appliance and they only see the backups and things that they have."
"More capacity with the basic model of the AltaVault would probably help out."
"It wasn't as easy as I thought it was going to be. It was actually a complete rebuild, and then migrate the database."
"We've had a lot of issues, crashed the service console a lot, service crashes."
"It's a good product, but it's becoming outdated and moving to their other primary architecture."
"It would be nice if the solution was more complete. Many customers are looking for a single solution or silo that they can manage everything from. It would be nice, instead of having different products, if everything a client needed was in one solution."
"To clarify, the catalog feature is lacking, and you need to depend on somebody else."
"Perhaps the most notable area for enhancement lies in the web interface for management. The current limitations in LDAP editing capabilities are not addressed in the UI, and I haven't observed any recent updates. It's possible that the new version of the DXI service incorporates improvements in the GUI, but I cannot confirm. While there is room for improvement in the current GUI, it remains a relatively minor issue. Overall, the system is comprehensive, covering aspects such as reports on latency and networking, leaving little room for additional enhancements in those areas."
"The product needs to improve performance while scaling out. It also needs to improve stability."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing costs attached to the solution, which comes to around 3,000 USD."
"The price is a bit high."
"It's quite cost-effective."
"You could compare it to a Dell EMC or ECS, and I think it's probably a little less costly than that. Within the marketplace, it's a medium cost."
"In one use case, and we have several, to run for a particular customer, the price is about $375,000 a year."
"It is a rather expensive program."
"The pricing is not too bad, but could be a little better."
"I do not oversee this aspect, as pricing is contingent on factors such as volume, technical specifications, and the desired features. Consequently, I lack information on the pricing details and structure."
