Reliable multi-platform backups have protected diverse servers and virtual libraries
Quest NetVault can improve in the area of Office 365 backups. Two years ago, I purchased the Office 365 plug-in or leased it for a year, and I have never been able to have a solid backup of Office 365 using Quest NetVault. I have resorted to a different solution specifically for Office 365 backups. It is not that it never works, but it fails so many times that it is not production-ready. On a weekly basis, I encounter problems and have to restart jobs or figure out what is wrong and then run it again. It simply needs to run as all the other Quest NetVault jobs do. If tomorrow there was a brand new Quest NetVault and I had the option to add something to make my life easier, besides improving the Office 365 backup, I would like to see that Quest Co Store products should be a part of Quest NetVault. They work and interact, but I have the impression it should be one solution.

Has enabled seamless disaster recovery with virtual rollovers and rapid failovers between systems
Improving Precisely Assure MIMIX is going to be a really hard one; over the years, the tech support started off kind of rough but gradually got better and better as I used it often, being on a first-name basis with many of the customer service reps because of having to call with issues that they were always able to resolve fairly quickly. I would have liked to see more reporting, maybe automation of reports, but as far as integration with other systems, I always used Precisely Assure MIMIX on an AS/400, iSeries, IBM iSeries machine, and I cannot speak to using it on any other device.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"This product is very useful and cost effective."
"Its dashboard is quite well done. When you log into the GUI, you can basically see everything you need to know. There is also the possibility to edit the view as you like, which is great."
"If a job is pending, the solution communicates it to us through emails."
"The solution allows us to block off our network and only give access to whatever we want."
"The user interface is good."
"Ultimately, our customers have been happy with the solution."
"NetVault Plus's Unified Manager Console is useful, it is great actually, and helps with the day-to-day activity for my end, making it easier for an IT manager like me."
"We are able to protect all of our applications and data across the company using only NetVault."
"Database replication is most valuable; it is multi-platform, so it can replicate from a variety of different database types to a variety of different database types, and it is a relatively stable database replication product."
"Precisely Assure MIMIX has positively affected our organization by reducing downtime because it takes 30 minutes from swapping from one box to another; production is back up and running within 30 minutes, and a lot of times, I could get it down to 20 minutes."
"The product's initial setup phase was straightforward and simple."
"I see that the seamless synchronization feature is helpful for your organization or your customers' organization."

Cons

"I have never been able to have a solid backup of Office 365 using Quest NetVault; it fails so many times that it is not production-ready."
"The initial setup is a little complex."
"The stability of the solution is poor."
"Improvements could be made in the deduplication and data management capabilities. There is also a need for better security measures, as security is critical to ensure backups are safe and free from malware."
"The product’s SQL backup plugin needs improvement."
"There are certain issues with the product that we report to Quest, and we get offered a workaround instead of a fix. There could be better interaction with the development teams, perhaps in terms of transparency."
"Improvements should come, particularly in compatibility, backup performance, or better troubleshooting."
"In the next version, I would like to see support for the MongoDB database. As it is now, there is no component that works with it and we cannot back the data up using NetVault."
"It does data manipulation language (DML) replication, but it does not do data definition language (DDL) replication. In my opinion, it is a disadvantage. It would be nicer if it was able to do both DML and DDL. I'm not 100% certain of this, but it seems Oracle Golden Gate does both DML and DDL. MIMIX only does DML, and it would be very nice if they included DDL replication. This is one feature that would be very helpful to have."
"There is certainly a strong lobby in the company that feels that by having so many copies of the same set of data throughout the organization, we are going in the wrong direction."
"One thing I see as a drawback in Precisely Assure MIMIX is that deployment is quite complex and it takes time."
"The pricing was a little steep; I believe it could have been lower, but for what I received as far as the service, the price is pretty close."
"The high cost of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of our 12-month contract is approximately $1,500 AUD ($1,100 USD)."
"The tool is expensive."
"When we purchased four licenses, we were given a very good price. However, it is still on the high side when compared to some other vendors."
"The licensing provides the access to support. I do know that there's an annual charge for being able to call into their support line and get a technical team from Precisely to assist with any issues we may have. I don't think there are any additional costs other than what we incur internally in terms of the infrastructure that we need to run and operate the product."
"The cost of the product is too high."
