User-level monitoring with near-real-time analytics boosts service availability
The use case is about user-level monitoring and the availability of a service for a user. It's about whether the service is available, its performance, and the type of errors a user is receiving, from a user perspective The functions that Real User Monitor is intended for, which is to provide the…

Helps us detect cyber threats quickly and integrate multiple feeds effectively
Overall, the product is good, but when it comes to some infrastructure issues, we have to dig into more logs. There is no straightforward indication of an issue. Health check kind of dashboards are not available. More AI would help us, and more optimization, since security products run more queries. The AI module could suggest solutions, optimizing queries or workload balancing. If the product itself advises on running queries during peak times, it would be similar to what ChatGPT currently offers. We see quite a few issues on stability. Even last week, we faced something, and identifying bottlenecks is not easy. We need more SMEs, and there is no mechanism to tell us about indexer or search head issues. Self-monitoring dashboards could be beneficial. The technical support still requires more improvement. Often, primary support takes a lot of time and forwards most solutions to the engineering side. The primary support team has very limited knowledge to provide.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Real User Monitor has made it easier to drill down and see how users connect to and use our website."
"It offers near-real-time analytics, which is helpful."
"The technical support is good at resolving issues."
"Real User Monitoring tools help proactively identify problems before they become critical by monitoring thresholds. There is a threshold and an SOA threshold."
"We found this to be a stable product."
"It is a good product."
"Real User Monitor does its job, and that is why we have stayed with it for so many years."
"The most valuable feature is application performance monitoring."
"Splunk Enterprise Security has the capability to pull the report from anytime or any respective time, or if I need it from all the time, then it can be helpful."
"The best feature I've seen is the ability to easily change the query based on the dashboard or based on the chart we have to create, allowing any value or metric we want to add to that particular chart while keeping the rest of the dashboard settings intact."
"The ability to ingest different log types from many different products in our environment is most valuable."
"Once you complete this setup, the product is amazing and will do all of the work."
"Splunk Enterprise Security is able to process a huge amount of data without any issues."
"Integrity with many vendors: This simplifies the implementation and integration with different devices"
"The feature I appreciate the most about Splunk Enterprise Security is the dashboard."
"The client site login is pretty extensible and probably cost-effective."

Cons

"There have been some issues with customers implementing this solution and with login errors, which could be areas for improvement."
"Everybody is moving away from traffic and installing agents on the application to do the job, but Micro Focus is using traditional ways to collect the traffic. They should change their architecture completely."
"Recently we have been facing some stability issues."
"This technology is considered to be older."
"One area to improve is the user interface, of course. The second one is their R&D has virtually stopped building a product roadmap."
"If it is a standalone solution, however, I would not recommend Micro Focus."
"Real User Monitor needs to cover more protocols to provide more in-depth information. It could also be better at monitoring voice-related traffic. There is currently no visibility in that channel."
"We would like to see support for non-Windows environments."
"The high cost of Splunk Enterprise Security prevented us from using its full capabilities."
"The documentation is in definite need of improvement."
"There is a definite learning curve to starting out."
"Splunk is query-based, which is not the case with most cybersecurity tools. It is based on search queries and can be difficult to use."
"Writing queries is a bit complicated sometimes."
"In terms of the interface, it could include some improvements for the look and feel."
"In my opinion, it is too expensive for our projects."
"Because we are using a licensed DataDog, which gives us more reliable results. And for file logs, we are using a BAM, a business audit and monitoring tool, which gives us a more visualized experience than Splunk Enterprise Security."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"If I compare with other vendors, other vendors are more expensive"
"Not expensive."
"Compared to other tools, OpenText Real User Monitoring is an expensive solution."
"The price is approximately €30,000 ($35,500 USD) for the enterprise edition."
"The subscription is monthly."
"Splunk is costly but it’s worth it due to the high-end features."
"The tool's pricing model is great. You can choose between workloads or volume."
"Splunk can be expensive, as its licensing is based on the daily data ingestion volume."
"The price of Splunk Enterprise Security is reasonable, falling somewhere in the middle range."
"We have an unlimited one, and we pay yearly, but I don't know how much it costs. Previously, I worked for a startup, and when they started building it up, it was complicated for them because they didn't have the budget for that many licenses. It was very costly for them. So, startups might find it a little bit problematic because of the licensing, but for bigger companies, there is no issue."
"The solution is a little expensive."
"Licensing is a yearly, one-time cost."
