Comprehensive security solution enhances data classification and protection
The most valuable feature of Palo Alto Networks Enterprise Data Loss Prevention is its comprehensive end-to-end solution in Cloud Delivery Security Services, which includes URL, data loss prevention, and advanced threat prevention as features that can be enabled just by clicking a checkbox. Compared to competitors, these are often additional add-ons, whereas Palo Alto Networks provides a complete solution. The artificial intelligence integration in the product also helps immensely by classifying data, identifying data, and monitoring user access and behavior, thus improving data security strategies.

Experienced implementation enhances security with robust detection and centralized management
A significant case highlighted an improvement need when a banking company lost 500 customer information pieces through screenshots. The data theft occurred through individual screenshots of credit note pages rather than taking complete PDF files. This incident led to the suggestion for implementing image detection methods, as Data Loss Prevention solutions needed to analyze image details. Symantec responded by creating an OCR module, enabling the capability to search within images. The pricing structure remains an area for improvement. We lost a POC despite installing 2,000 endpoints because Symantec Data Loss Prevention is more expensive compared to other solutions. Although the competing product couldn't match all the best practices, the price difference influenced the final decision.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The security aspect in finance is crucial for controlling from a DLP perspective and ensuring protection."
"Another important feature is that the solution doesn't require any additional infrastructure to implement. It's a software license that is compatible with our existing hardware. We were able to install and configure the product seamlessly and effortlessly."
"The security aspect in finance is crucial for controlling from a DLP perspective and ensuring protection."
"Our clients primarily deploy Palo Alto Networks Enterprise DLP to control the flow of information in and out of their networks. The main use cases include monitoring and managing sensitive data such as credit card information and personally identifiable information."
"The most valuable feature of Palo Alto Networks Enterprise Data Loss Prevention is its comprehensive end-to-end solution in Cloud Delivery Security Services, which includes URL, data loss prevention, and advanced threat prevention as features that can be enabled just by clicking a checkbox."
"The primary feature is managing firewalls through Panorama, especially when handling multiple firewalls across different sites like headquarters and remote sites."
"It is a stable solution with good support."
"The setup is very easy as we just need to switch on and switch off."
"Users like the product because of its simplicity and the rate of detection."
"The product is very stable."
"The solution can easily scale."
"The data-at-rest features are the most valuable because they let us identify data infected with ransomware and prevent employees from being exploited through phishing attacks. If an employee is compromised, the attacker can access servers and deposit ransomware. This enables the attacker to exfiltrate data remotely using employees' credentials. It might be valuable data that could cause a business reputational and financial damage if stolen and publicized. It could also be credit card data or personal health information stored on critical servers."
"Symantec DLP has many servers, and the solution is very powerful because you can use it in ports, endpoints, networks, and email servers to prevent the leakage of emails. DLP can be integrated with Symantec encryption."
"DLP's most valuable feature is that it's more granular in terms of creating block-based policies, which gives you more options to create policies in a filtered way."
"They have a feature on the management side called the document indexer. Let's say you have a unique document with many near identical versions, which have one or several values that change, while the rest of the content stays the same. You can collect 50 of those documents and put them into this feature of the Symantec DLP system. It will compress them and create a profile specifically for that document."
"The solution offers great reporting."

Cons

"There are mostly performance issues."
"The configuration for Palo Alto Networks firewalls requires specifying many details, such as protocols and services."
"The solution needs improvement in stability. There has been feedback regarding the accuracy of file categorization."
"Pricing is expensive."
"Its scalability is not on par with the features of others."
"There is room for improvement in the documentation around the maintenance of the product, how the automatic updates work, and pushing out new policies. A little more detail and context in that area would be helpful."
"The product is still overly complicated compared to other vendors such as Check Point, which could be improved."
"You need to have an external solution to backup everything. For example, you need to have Syslog installed on your server as well so that you can back it up to another place."
"The one downside for Symantec is that, due to its transition from Symantec to Broadcom, there's been a lot of changes. I am based in the Philippines and we don't have a contact person locally for any Symantec."
"Symantec could be better with infrastructure."
"I would like to see an improved interface, with better documentation and integration with other products."
"The solution relies on and Oracle database which is not financially feasible for many customers."
"The solution could offer improved more informative documentation."
"Sometimes setting up the solution can get a little tricky because it would depend on your internal infrastructure. For example, you have to connect the Symantec Data Loss Prevention platform and you need to integrate it, so that could make the process somewhat difficult."
"We lost a POC despite installing 2,000 endpoints because Symantec Data Loss Prevention is more expensive compared to other solutions."
"Symantec Data Loss Prevention could improve by having better system resource management, cloud option, and more features."

"The pricing of the solution depends on the buyers. But, from my point of view, it is in line with the rest of the products and the price list of Palo Alto."
"The licensing model is very fair-minded and it's a good value. It scales well... Its licensing model is more streamlined when compared to other DLP solutions."

"The product is high-priced."
"The platform is expensive."
"Pricing is above average."
"The platform is not very expensive. I rate its pricing an eight out of ten."
"The pricing is reasonable."
