Process-Level CPU Visibility: Introduce detailed CPU-usage metrics per subsystem (e.g., IPS engine, logging) so administrators can quickly identify and address performance spikes.
Analytics with FortiAnalyzer. Being able to pull in logs not just from our FortiGates but from all our other firewalls and then get them in one view has been a game changer. Whether I’m building an executive dashboard or doing a deep dive forensics session, I get everything I need without navigating consoles.Straightforward Application Control. FortiGate spots and blocks unwanted apps (eq. like BitTorrent or streaming services) with accuracy. Segmentation with VDOMs. We’ve carved our data center into four logical ‘mini-firewalls’ enterprise, core, billing, and WAF—all on one box. Each has its own rules and logs, and any traffic between them still gets inspected. It’s like having multiple appliances without the extra hardware. Always-Up-to-Date Threat Feeds. Daily signature updates and AI-driven threat sensing mean we’re blocking the latest vulnerabilities almost as soon as they’re announced.

Comprehensive security solution enhances data classification and protection
The most valuable feature of Palo Alto Networks Enterprise Data Loss Prevention is its comprehensive end-to-end solution in Cloud Delivery Security Services, which includes URL, data loss prevention, and advanced threat prevention as features that can be enabled just by clicking a checkbox. Compared to competitors, these are often additional add-ons, whereas Palo Alto Networks provides a complete solution. The artificial intelligence integration in the product also helps immensely by classifying data, identifying data, and monitoring user access and behavior, thus improving data security strategies.

Centralized security management has improved VPN reliability and simplified daily operations
WatchGuard Firebox is a strong and reliable platform overall, but there are a few areas where improvements could make the experience even better. One area is the user interface and navigation in some management tools. While the platform is powerful, certain configurations and troubleshooting workflows can feel less intuitive compared to some newer cloud-native firewall platforms. Another point is reporting and log analysis. Although the logging features are very useful, deeper analytics and more customizable reporting dashboards would make security monitoring much more effective. Firmware upgrades and policy synchronization can sometimes require careful planning to avoid security interruptions. Overall, the core security and VPN functionality are very solid, but improving usability, reporting, and automation would make the platform even stronger. One area that could be improved is the learning curve for new administrators. While experienced engineers can work with the platform effectively, some advanced networking and security configurations can be a bit complex for junior technicians. More guided configuration workflows, smarter recommendations, and simplified troubleshooting tools would make onboarding easier. Another improvement would be more flexible reporting customization for executive-level and client-facing reports.

Pros

"I think FortiGate is more reliable, consistent, and easy to learn."
"Web filtering is the most useful feature."

"Two aspects I'm happy with regarding Fortinet FortiGate firewall are the easy user interface and its resilience during power interruptions."
"The primary feature is managing firewalls through Panorama, especially when handling multiple firewalls across different sites like headquarters and remote sites."
"The most valuable feature of Palo Alto Networks Enterprise Data Loss Prevention is its comprehensive end-to-end solution in Cloud Delivery Security Services, which includes URL, data loss prevention, and advanced threat prevention as features that can be enabled just by clicking a checkbox."
"Another important feature is that the solution doesn't require any additional infrastructure to implement. It's a software license that is compatible with our existing hardware. We were able to install and configure the product seamlessly and effortlessly."
"It is a stable solution with good support."
"Our clients primarily deploy Palo Alto Networks Enterprise DLP to control the flow of information in and out of their networks. The main use cases include monitoring and managing sensitive data such as credit card information and personally identifiable information."
"The setup is very easy as we just need to switch on and switch off."
"The security aspect in finance is crucial for controlling from a DLP perspective and ensuring protection."
"Having this technology, which makes it easy to manage with administration done centrally, is super helpful."
"The alarm system is valuable."
"Zero-trust and threat-hunting services are most valuable."
"It has made firewall configuration really simple."
"I like WatchGuard's network segmentation features. It's easy to configure user policies."
"After conducting several tests I found the antivirus is working very well. Additionally, they have a very interesting feature, DNS WatchGuard, which is checking DNS requests for phishing, among other things, and it has caught a lot of unwanted attempts and attacks."
"The protection that it provides from ransomware is valuable. The awareness that it has is also valuable. It didn't have a central console earlier, but now it has a central console, which is pretty good."
"Their centralized console simplifies management for organizations with multiple Fireboxes."
"WatchGuard is very user-friendly. It provides us with all of the security services we need."

Cons

"With FortiGate, the main complaint that I have heard is about the technical support."
"I see room to explore its integration with Secure Service Automation for a more comprehensive security view."
"But because it's so modular, sometimes customers mistakenly just buy the firewall. The firewall doesn't work right."
"We faced difficulties with the configuration because there are many features we could optimize using Fortinet FortiGate, but our reseller didn't have a good understanding of it. So, we just use it on a basic level, not with the best practice for using FortiGate."
"The updates Fortinet provides are sometimes unstable."
"It takes a long time to install the solution."
"The firmware updates are sometimes not stable. The stability issues can vary, sometimes happening once a month or quarterly. New firmware updates can occasionally introduce bugs, causing some policies to fail. We then have to raise a ticket, and Fortinet usually provides a fix within a few days."
"In terms of pricing, the solution is a bit expensive, but I think it was a better option than Checkpoint, which is why I replaced it."
"The product is still overly complicated compared to other vendors such as Check Point, which could be improved."
"The configuration for Palo Alto Networks firewalls requires specifying many details, such as protocols and services."
"You need to have an external solution to backup everything. For example, you need to have Syslog installed on your server as well so that you can back it up to another place."
"The solution needs improvement in stability. There has been feedback regarding the accuracy of file categorization."
"There are mostly performance issues."
"Its scalability is not on par with the features of others."
"Pricing is expensive."
"There is room for improvement in the documentation around the maintenance of the product, how the automatic updates work, and pushing out new policies. A little more detail and context in that area would be helpful."
"While the GUI version we are using is good, it still needs some upgrades compared to leader companies or firewall models like Palo Alto or FortiGate."
"The main area for improvement in WatchGuard Firebox is exposing more of the technical configuration in the cloud management, as it would take away the need to do local management on those devices."
"The VPN aspect of the WatchGuard Firebox is an area that could potentially benefit from improvement. We encountered difficulties while attempting to integrate Windows 11 laptops into the system, which resulted in unreliable connections. After some research, we discovered that this was primarily due to compatibility issues with Windows 11 and required a patch. However, it was still a challenge as it seemed that even when we tried to keep the laptops on Windows 10, they still exhibited the same issues as Windows 11 machines. Despite WatchGuard attributing the problem to Microsoft, we were eventually able to find a solution and all the machines are now functioning seamlessly."
"It's very hard to get information from their website, for exactly what I need to do."
"Multi properties could be added to the solution in the future to make it better."
"The solution isn't what I would consider feature-rich."
"Proxy actions can be a little bit complicated."
"The reporting could use improvement, because most of the firewalls available in the market come with the reporting built-in, with the memory and the hard disk capacity and all."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Its price could be better."
"It is more expensive than Sophos. Fortinet is overall more expensive than Sophos. The small range of Fortinet, such as 60F and 80F, is more expensive than the small range of Sophos. Sophos is cheaper. In addition, if you jump from 80F Series to 100F Series, the price doubles."
"It is not the cheapest one, but its price is very competitive."
"It is very cost-effective. You get features similar to other firewalls, such as Palo Alto, but at a lower price."
"Fortinet Secure SD-WAN delivered the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) per Mbps among all other vendors."
"Pricing is good. They offer a lot of things, the most important is the support. Every time you upgrade your license, you also get insurance for the equipment. If you have any problem with equipment, they send in new equipment."
"We purchased a five-year bundle package, which worked out cheaper than competing solutions."
"Pricing is lower than Cisco."
"The pricing of the solution depends on the buyers. But, from my point of view, it is in line with the rest of the products and the price list of Palo Alto."
"It's expensive."
"The licensing model is very fair-minded and it's a good value. It scales well... Its licensing model is more streamlined when compared to other DLP solutions."
"Palo Alto Networks Enterprise Data Loss Prevention is expensive, and licensing costs are monthly."
"We paid $4000 in AUD for WatchGuard Firebox per year. There were no additional costs."
"Over the years, the costs have increased, especially since I cater to very small businesses."
"Firebox is priced reasonably."
"Despite the fact that there is always room for improvement, the current pricing of the solution is still lower compared to its competitors."
"The pricing is competitive."
"I spent $600 or $800 on this product and I'm paying a couple of hundred dollars a year in a subscription service to keep the lights on, on it... It works out to $100 or $200 a year if you buy several years at once. It's fair."
"Its cost is okay. It is not too expensive, not too low. I would rate it a nine out of ten in terms of pricing."
"Cheap."
