Unified data apps have cut costs and saved time while UI flexibility still needs improvement
Plotly Dash Enterprise helps me pull everything together better than other tools, particularly from a cost-cutting perspective. If I build it using React or Angular, I need separate front-end web apps, middleware web apps, and a dedicated back-end SQL database, but with Plotly Dash Enterprise, I can host both my middleware API integration and front-end HTML and CSS parts directly. In my workflow, Plotly plays a good role because it is easily scalable and does not require additional HTML, CSS, or API knowledge. Instead of needing separate API knowledge, I can use the callback feature available in Plotly Dash Enterprise, making it easy to handle for someone who knows Python. The best features Plotly Dash Enterprise offers include the seamless integration of HTML and CSS libraries without needing to pull additional libraries and the ability to incorporate my front-end and middleware in one place, eliminating the need for separate environments. The feature that makes the biggest difference for me is having everything in one environment. Building a three-tier architecture in React requires reliance on a middleware API, but with Plotly Dash Enterprise, I can manage my middleware setup and API triggers directly, significantly reducing my development time from one hour to just ten minutes. I also incorporate row-level security in Plotly Dash Enterprise, which makes it easy to restrict tool access only to authorized users. The deployment process is also considerably easier than with other three-tier setups. Plotly Dash Enterprise positively impacts my organization by providing cost savings and improved collaboration. For three-tier architecture, I need to pay for separate web apps and databases, but here I only pay for one web app, reducing costs significantly. I literally save about one month of development time using Plotly Dash Enterprise and around thirty percent of costs compared to other three-tier architectures. The app is also faster as APIs are integrated directly into one app, improving interaction with the API server.

Embedded analytics has unified diverse data sources and supports real-time operational decisions
I find Power BI Embedded Analytics to be a fairly good reporting tool and dashboarding tool. The color palette and everything about it is good. It would be beneficial to have reporting on top of a data warehouse, a lake house, or directly on an Excel-based solution. If Power BI can come as a full stack similar to SAP Analytics Cloud, it can embed with Azure very quickly. However, the full suite provided by SAP, starting from ERP through reporting, is somewhat loosely coupled, which can be helpful for some clients. Overall, Power BI is a very good tool for reporting. Embedded analytics may lack some features from the modeling perspective, such as dimension modeling, and there are multiple factors that lead us to prefer analytics on top of the warehouse rather than going for embedded analytics.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Plotly Dash Enterprise has transformed my projects by moving them from local scripts to secure production-grade applications that drive faster data-driven decisions."
"Plotly Dash Enterprise helps us achieve a much more interactive and vivid form of visualization for our organization, which helps us drive better results and analytics."
"When reviewing and interpreting data, I typically examine it in a tabular form to understand its structure. However, when explaining or presenting the findings to others, I often use visualization tools such as Plotly. These tools allow me to create visual representations of datasets."
"The best features Plotly Dash Enterprise offers is the clarity."
"Plotly Dash Enterprise has positively impacted my organization by giving us valuable inputs through the interactive visuals, which we can use to make concrete decisions that help us improve our top line or bottom line."
"We have seen a clear return on investment with Plotly Dash Enterprise, as the biggest gains have come from reduced time spent on manual reporting and faster delivery of dashboards."
"I have been using it to turn raw data into interactive, presentation-ready visuals with no extra effort, making exploratory data analysis faster and stakeholder communication far more effective."
"I literally save about one month of development time using Plotly Dash Enterprise and around thirty percent of costs compared to other three-tier architectures."
"The positive impact Power BI Embedded Analytics has made in my organization is the gain of time, the sharing of the same data, and the same information for all the stakeholders, leading to better decisions."
"What I appreciate most about Power BI Embedded Analytics is that it is tightly integrated with Microsoft, which is a strong feature."

Cons

"It could have developed a more gradual learning curve."
"As a student, I haven't seen a return on investment or any metrics or examples such as saving time or resources."
"Plotly Dash Enterprise could improve by lowering the learning curve for new users and offering more modern UI/UX tooling out of the box, as while deployment is still strong, feedback cycles can still be improved."
"The tool needs to improve its pie charts. Regarding Plotly, I find the online documentation somewhat challenging to navigate, especially when dealing with many parameters. Searching through thousands of parameters can be a tedious and less straightforward process. While the documentation is available online and serves its purpose, I often encounter difficulties in finding the information."
"While Plotly Dash Enterprise is powerful, its default look can sometimes feel more academic or technical than the sleek, modern UI of dedicated BI tools."
"Plotly Dash Enterprise is stable but not one hundred percent stable; there are rare instances where it takes longer to load the environment, but these do not greatly hinder my work."
"To improve Plotly Dash Enterprise, I suggest that cross-filtering capabilities need significant improvement along with file uploads and downloading data as a CSV or in any other requested format, as we seek more features aligned with user requests."
"I sometimes find that the documentation is not comprehensive and more detailed documentation should be available for the benefit of other companies using it."
"Embedded analytics may lack some features from the modeling perspective, such as dimension modeling, and there are multiple factors that lead us to prefer analytics on top of the warehouse rather than going for embedded analytics."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I only use the free tier of the product."
"It is an open-source tool. My company hasn't explored Plotly's premium services yet, but I believe the prices could be on the premium side."
