Centralized collaboration has transformed API testing and documentation across multiple teams
In terms of improvement, the UI can sometimes feel heavy for larger collections in the workspaces. Additionally, performance may slow down with complex API projects, and pricing can be expensive for smaller teams. However, it is quite suitable for bigger teams. Other areas for improvement include better reporting and analytics dashboards, and more advanced native test environment features could enhance workflow, with smoother offline support and sync handling. Additionally, better performance for very large collections would be helpful, along with more intuitive navigation for enterprise-scale workspaces, stronger reporting analytics, easier management of permissions across large teams, and more flexible automation and testing report options would be beneficial. Small usability and performance improvements would make Postman Enterprise even more efficient for larger organizations. Postman Enterprise needs better performance optimization for large enterprises, more detailed analytics user reporting, improved API governance and audit visibility, simpler permissions and access control management, faster sync and loading times for larger collections, and more advanced built-in testing and reporting capabilities.

Internal API gateway has improved security frameworks and now provides unified API visibility
The best features Tyk offers are highly customizable options, effective traffic management, and security, making it easy to configure and use. The customizability of Tyk is evident in our validation of the token—specifically with our internal identity and access management. There were challenges on the network side and in managing token validity and the public key, but Tyk allowed us to configure these aspects effectively. I believe those are the standard out-of-the-box capabilities provided by Tyk that we are using, particularly regarding traffic management and security. Tyk has positively impacted my organization by providing standard API management capabilities, such as a single view for all APIs, discoverability, and role-based access control for overseeing who can see which APIs.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's a great product, easy to use, and people like it."
"In general, we have more visibility about the APIs that we have and how they work, and we also have more visibility about the documentation, with a lot of users now familiar with APIs because Postman has quite a user-friendly UI, leading to an educational improvement."
"Postman is one of the easiest tools; I have not seen anybody complaining because it's just one Google search away."
"Overall rating: Ten out of ten."
"Postman is a good tool for completing a sanity check or smoke test of REST APIs."
"It's easy to see different versions of responses."
"The initial setup is simple."
"The solution is open-source and does the work required for day-to-day API testing activities."
"Other than the limitations with the cloud version everything else is fantastic."
"Our customers are happy with the features and performance, and I have not heard any complaints with respect to technical support."
"It is a good product for API management."
"The feature I find most valuable is that this solution allows us to manage our security, I like that it is open-source and that we can expand it in the future, and we also have all the functionalities to manage our APIs."
"The portal for developers that this solution provides has great functionality."
"Tyk is a wonderful API management gateway for maintaining enterprise-grade applications."
"Customer support is excellent, and their support personnel, along with professional services, know the product really well, resulting in a good experience dealing with them."
"The scalability is very good. That was a key factor in the selection, like how it could be pushed to high volume and scalability, which seemed to be very good."

Cons

"I think they could make version management easier and release it when it comes to container-based or Docker-based architecture."
"There are some limitations regarding large result sets in Postman. When dealing with several hundred records, accessing all the information can be challenging."
"When you create a new collection and documentation, in tests, you usually have to click Save. If you don't click Save, your collections don't sync with other devices, which is something I don't like."
"We'd like to see some better UI in newer versions."
"If we have a certain build on one machine it won't work with another build even if we are using the same URL. It would give us a connection refuse. So developing environment compatibility would make it better."
"Version management could be simplified."
"There is no support for the testing of the SOAP APIs."
"There needs to be more flexibility surrounding the testing of SOAP APIs."
"We would like a better tool for generating documentation for the APIs to be developed."
"I would like to see some additional features like having some extensions for .NET core because we use it for our back-end language."
"In terms of our usage, the main area of concern is that they tend to build enhancements slightly ahead of the considerations for what those enhancements and extensions are. So it could be slightly better communication with the customer base that would be my main issue with them."
"Compared to Apigee or Kong, I find they excel beyond Tyk, which is the reason for my score."
"It is a young product and does not have the kind of brand recognition that would make it a more popular solution with our clients."
"We ran it for a while, but then we decided to move away from Tyk, because Tyk's cloud version, the SaaS version, has a significant limitation of limited flexibility, so you can't program very much."
"Sometimes when new features are released, they are not immediately stable."
"There are some architectural bottlenecks, including operational complexity and multi-component overhead."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We use the open-source version. They introduced a new licensing model where your company must subscribe to their services if you're using it for business purposes. However, I think they charge too much if you're only using the basic features. It limits what your organization can do if you're not a paying customer."
"Postman is a free service."
"The solution's price is reasonable."
"The solution has a licensing fee which might be prohibitive."
"Postman is an open-source product. It is free to download from Google."
"This tool is open-source and free to download and use."
"We are currently using the free version, but we have plans to buy a license."
"The solution is free for individuals, but for companies that use it across the organization, you have to pay per user."
"There are different versions and plans available depending on the requirements, so there is flexibility in terms of the pricing."
"The cost curve is far smoother, both in terms of volume and the number of calls it's running on, compared to most competitors. So it's a tad more expensive at the very low end, but the curve is nothing like Apigee or some of the others."
"We are using the open-source version of this product, so there are no licensing costs for its use."
"The price is low compared to other products of a similar type."
"It had a free version, which suited many of our needs, but not all, but we were happy to go ahead with the licensed version as well, which is the paid version."
