Has reduced troubleshooting time and improved issue detection through sensor alerts and team collaboration
PRTG Network Monitor can be improved because the dashboard themes feel outdated. It should be updated to a newer version for the new Gen Z customers. The notification sound options are limited unless customized. Restarting probes after Windows updates is necessary, and there should be some kind of automatic restart. The initial auto-discovery added too many unnecessary sensors, so auto-discovery should only take the necessary sensors into consideration.

Threat detection failures, poor technical support, and expensive
We use the solution to manage all of our customer's systems. We monitor and decide if everything is okay and if not, we do changes when needed. For example, if there is a need to change the antivirus software we can automate the process and install the new one. There are scripts within the software…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Monitoring takes time, and anything that cuts down on time spent monitoring saves money."
"The most valuable feature is the notifications, as long as you spend time and think about what and when you want to be notified, it's always accurate, it is always there, and I find things out before my Internet provider."
"We are using the basic PRTG that we can download for free, and PRTG is much cheaper than SolarWinds."
"Its proactiveness is its most valuable feature. We already know when we come in, in the morning, if a server or site is down, as opposed to someone telling us."
"We're more proactive. Usually, we already know when something has gone down by the time we get the phone calls."
"We did some research, found PRTG, and I spoke to another company that used it, they really loved it so we went ahead got the free license initially, did a trial, found it absolutely amazing, and then bought it."
"PRTG Network Monitor has positively impacted my organization by giving me historical logs I used to resolve a vendor dispute about downtime."
"Good compilation of the system's information."
"The installation is easy."
"The solution offers so many great resources, it makes them a powerhouse in the market."
"We are satisfied with the stability of the solution."

Cons

"The technical support response time is still prolonged, and the resolution can be better."
"I would like the ability to monitor Cisco IRS devices."
"There seems to be a big jump from the basic scan to the really thorough scan."
"I would like to see Office 365 monitoring. Essentially, it doesn't do it."
"If they are looking for complex reports, I will say stay away from this product."
"Although the reporting module is functional, I feel it is a bit clunky compared to the rest of the interface, and it would benefit from being polished for future use."
"PRTG's documentation could be improved."
"We have had a few issues with the web elements, as far as the dashboard. With the dashboard, it has to be manually refreshed. Occasionally, we reboot the server, or at least web services, due to the web aspect."
"The price could be a bit lower."
"We now use ConnectWise because while using SolarWinds we were attacked by ransomware. The solution did not protect us."
"We did not like SolarWinds because it was not able to communicate between UPSA and our accounting system. They should have better integration."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is very low compared to other solutions."
"We've got the unlimited package... I believe it was around the £15,000 per year mark."
"When you have a lot of devices, PRTG Network Monitor can be costly."
"Our licensing costs are 10,000 euros over three years."
"I rate the licensing for PRTG Network Monitor an eight out of ten."
"We pay for PRTG Network Monitor annually. The price is approximately 10,000 rupees annually."
"At the moment I'm only using 500 sensors. I pay yearly, so it's a cost that's easily swallowed."
"We have an unlimited perpetual license, so we just pay support costs and it can scale throughout the organization."
"The price of SolarWinds Network Automation Manager is fair. However, it is more expensive than ConnectWise."
