Centralized dashboard has simplified multi‑cloud cluster management and has boosted team productivity
The best feature I will mention of Rafay Kubernetes Operations Platform is the centralized multi-cluster management feature, which allows us not to worry about accessing different clusters, as it provides us with a single interface through which we can manage all the different users, namespaces, and cluster resources. This is what I and my team love working with because we don't have to worry about the different clusters that we are working with. The central multi-cluster management feature saves us time because earlier we used to create a ticket for access to different cloud providers, which took time to get access, but with Rafay Kubernetes Operations Platform, we have multi-cluster support that makes it really easy for our team and saves our time. The GitOps flow that Rafay Kubernetes Operations Platform has is something I'm looking into. I haven't extensively used that aspect, but there's discussion in my team about using their GitOps flow to onboard different new clusters, so I'm still researching that area and seeing how we can use it in our use case. Rafay Kubernetes Operations Platform has positively impacted our organization by increasing overall productivity as a team because we are a big team with many people working on Kubernetes clusters on different public clouds. Earlier it was a hassle for the DevOps team since they had to manage all the cluster access, but with Rafay Kubernetes Operations Platform, it has really improved our productivity, allowing us to do many things ourselves since the admin provides a single access for specific areas.

Seamless upgrades have protected business operations and support secure, flexible deployments
Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform needs some improvements, for example, in upgrade time, as normally, an extended upgrade method should be allowed, but sometimes if anyone clicks twice, it tries to upgrade the second level and gets stuck, so that area should be enhanced. The strictness of the SSD and HDD also should be aligned, because in some environments, we cannot strictly make some rules related to HDD, since Red Hat is strictly making a rule after 4.16 to adopt SSD instead of HDD, which in some environments will not allow, so some workaround should be done on that. Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform is the best option, but as many companies and the world are mainly looking for security purposes, the clear text format needs to be adopted instead of any third party. Red Hat has to develop its own product, as HashiCorp and CyberArk Conjur exist, but Red Hat needs to protect the clear text format because the secret should not be seen by anyone. Currently, it is a clear text method allowing anyone in the namespace to see the username and password, which should be controlled in that way. The major improvements needed are related to upgrade time and strict rule-making.

Pros

"Rafay Kubernetes Operations Platform has positively impacted our organization by increasing overall productivity as a team because we are a big team with many people working on Kubernetes clusters on different public clouds."
"The solution is stable. However, it depends on the integrations of the solution on how stable it will be, such as what tools you integrate with."
"You should map the requirements of the solution that you're looking for before jumping into a container platform, but if you are looking for a container platform, OpenShift is a good option."
"More tools are available in OpenShift Container Platform to maintain and manage the clusters."
"If I summarize the main benefit of this solution for my customers, it is the management of both virtualized and containerized environments, where the containerization will be more focused in the future."
"Since we had limited time for our project, this solution was very helpful in getting us into production within a short time frame."
"Technical support from Red Hat is very good."
"It’s user-friendly."
"Openshift is a very developer-friendly product."

Cons

"From a normal point of view, most things are good with Rafay Kubernetes Operations Platform, but I think there is a bit of a learning curve for new users unfamiliar with the platform, as it sometimes takes time to understand what exactly we are doing there and how everything works."
"The solution needs to introduce open ID connect integration for role-based access control."
"It has an option to install OpenShift without connecting it to the Internet. We tried this, but it was very hard. We couldn't manage to use that option. We wanted to use it offline for installations, updates, upgrades, etc., but we didn't find the offline installation and updates easy. This could be better."
"There is room for improvement with integration."
"Things are there and the documentation is there, however, there still needs to be quick guides available."
"My impression is that this solution is pretty expensive so I think the pricing plan could improve."
"Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform needs some improvements, for example, in upgrade time, as normally, an extended upgrade method should be allowed, but sometimes if anyone clicks twice, it tries to upgrade the second level and gets stuck, so that area should be enhanced."
"I want to see more incorporation of native automation features; then, we could write a code, deploy it directly to OpenShift, and allow it to take care of the automated process. Using this method, we could write one application and have elements copy/pasted to other applications in the development process."
"The product's setup process could be easier."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The product is expensive."
"We have to pay for the license."
"It largely depends on how much money they earn from the application being deployed; you don't normally deploy an app just for the purpose of having it. You must constantly look into your revenue and how much you spend every container, minute, or hour of how much it is working."
"OpenShift with Red Hat support is pretty costly. We have done a comparison between AWS EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Services) which provides fully managed services from AWS. It's built on open-source-based Kubernetes clusters and it is much cheaper compared to Red Hat, but it is a little expensive compared to ECS provided by AWS."
"I'm not familiar with pricing or financial aspects. In terms of effort versus benefit, it's worth it."
"OpenShift Container Platform is highly-priced."
"The price is slightly on the higher side. It is something that can be worked on because most of the businesses now have margins."
"The license to use the OpenShift Container Platform is free. If you are capable with Java you can modify it."
