A comprehensive and well-built solution for disaster recovery and backup
We use SEP sesam for disaster recovery and backup.  We need a solution to handle on-premise and cloud backup, particularly the Microsoft 0ffice365 server.  SEP sesam needs to work on stability.  I have been using the solution for a year.  We have not encountered any downtime while using the…

Backup operations have become reliable and reporting now simplifies hybrid cloud protection
Veeam Data Platform has Veeam Enterprise Manager as well as Veeam ONE as valuable features, which allow us to generate various kinds of reports that are required for the customer. Instant VM Recovery is a good feature of the high-speed recovery features in Veeam Data Platform, and Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is also a good feature. Ransomware protection is a good feature added in Veeam Data Platform from version 12 onwards, and the ability to create immutable repositories is also a good feature in Veeam. The analytics part of Veeam Data Platform is a good solution because I have worked on various backup technologies such as EMC NetWorker and NetBackup. However, I have not used the analytical parts currently but will check it out. Streamlining processes as well as saving money are benefits that Veeam Data Platform provides for the end user, as it allows for application-aware backups and database backups without the need for various kinds of licenses that other backup software requires. Veeam offers socket-based licenses, instance-based licenses, and capacity-based licenses, which is a great feature.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We need a solution to handle on-premise and cloud backup, particularly the Microsoft 0ffice365 server."
"All features of Veeam Data Platform, such as backup, immutability, and replication, are highly valuable."
"For me, it's perfect. We don't have any problems with backups and applications."
"There are many valuable features, for example how Copy Job is controlling the band with accelerators. The Enterprise Manager is a valuable feature. There are many very useful features. We can push in the market, because we have an advantage over the other solutions."
"The initial setup was not overly complex."
"A simple and stable solution for small businesses that use virtualization."
"The backup and restore features are the most valuable."
"Veeam Backup Replication has good performance and can do location-to-location backups. Additionally, it is user-friendly and easy to manage."
"We use it for failover and disaster recovery, and there have been times when our primary systems have failed and we've been able to run virtually until our primary systems are available again, so from a business continuity experience it has worked fairly well."

Cons

"SEP sesam needs to work on stability."
"In the future, I would like to see better support for direct backup to tape."
"The pricing could be better."
"Even though the speed has improved over the years, I think that there are some instances where it still takes a while."
"The solution is rather weak when it comes to database integration."
"The cloud part of it can be improved. There should be an option for Veeam in your own cloud, as compared to the Veeam cloud offering that's currently there. The rest of it is easy."
"I would like to have the capability of backing up a physical machine, as opposed to just a VM."
"Technical support is not so good: Communication issues due to language differences and slow responses."
"The replication functionality only works for VMware environments. Veeam has a backup agent for AIX operating systems, and we will like to see the replication functionality available for the AIX operating system. Additionally, if the backup functionality for AIX to be included in the Veeam console would be an advantage."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"SEP sesam offers a perpetual licensing option, which means you don't have to renew your license at a new price every time. I rate the solution's pricing a six and a half out of ten."
"I would rate the pricing six out of ten when compared to other competitors."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"This product is not cheap, but it's well worth the cost."
"Since pricing is per socket, it is not expensive to add capacity as you go along."
"The price of Veeam Backup & Replication is high and that is why I am choosing an alternative."
"We have a yearly perpetual license."
"I don't pay for the solution, so I can't comment on the cost."
"It is always nice to get products cheaper. Technically, it saves you a lot of money. If you wanted to buy the same functionality out of vSphere, you would spend thousands to essentially get the same functionality."

VMware SRM vs. Veeam vs. Zerto
Disaster recovery planning is something that seems challenging for all businesses. Virtualization in addition to its operational flexibility, and cost reduction benefits, has helped companies improve their DR posture. Virtualization has made it easier to move machines from production to…
