Everything has worked better since we started using it
Sometimes the syncing is inconsistent. I'm confident that the devices are checking in every eight hours, but sometimes the devices aren't picking up the settings as quickly as I would expect. Some features haven't been updated in a while, and Microsoft doesn't seem interested in developing them. Unless you talk to an engineer, you don't know whether there will be an update. There are communication issues, so you might start working with a feature without knowing if it will be deprecated six months from now. Some reporting areas still need development. For example, I noticed that the reporting for driver updates is still confusing.

Provides effective mobile security for small companies yet needs a clearer user interface and better support
We provide services to small companies with ten to fifty clients. It is important for us, as we operate as an IT company and system integrator, to deploy solutions like Sophos Mobile for mobile security and device management The features that stand out for maintaining mobile security are…

Provides enterprise mobility and remote control mobile device management
I would like to see some SMS integration so people can send data directly from a mobile phone through SMS when there's no internet. This feature would be good because there are some places in Africa where the internet stability isn't that good. During the voting process, they send the result through SMS. If SOTI can add the functionality where some of the clients can send information offline, via SMS, then that would be a good improvement for some places where there isn't a lot of internet stability.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The aspects I find most valuable are the managing the data and applications. I can also restrict the users to install any applications. I can also wipe the data if the phone was missplaced or stolen. These are the basics for me."
"Intune's most valuable feature is its centralized management capability."
"It supports end-users who tend to lock their devices quite frequently. Its conditional access policy helps us keep the users logged into their devices."
"Fortunately, now everything is streamlined into a single, unified platform."
"The solution is easy to use and it has good performance."
"The standout features of Intune are its excellent mobile device management and highly effective application management capabilities."
"The ability to manage devices with different sets of policies is most valuable."
"If any user tries to access company data, it directly interacts with the conditional access policy. This helps us protect our data and set the criteria for how data can be accessed and shared."
"I like the level of interaction that the product offers with the other products in our company's environment."
"Sophos Mobile is efficient in threat detection."
"Sophos Mobile offers several valuable features, such as device tracking, allowing me to know where a device is located."
"The most valuable feature is the mobile device management capability. You can easily manage all of your mobile devices."
"The features that stand out for maintaining mobile security are compliance and the ability to install applications and configure work profiles."
"The utmost importance lies in mobile security and its performance."
"Sophos Mobile has been rated nine out of ten for security and performance."
"Sophos Mobile offers features like cash mode and safe mode, and allows for central management, which I find effective for device security, though it depends on the clients' needs and the types of mobile devices used."
"It helps in enrolling, managing, and relocating the devices quickly."
"The licensing is simple."
"The product provides us with information about the incidents. It helped us block specific devices remotely."
"The most valuable feature is the fact that I can manage my devices remotely."
"The most valuable features are visibility and remote access."
"The Lockdown Kiosk Mode is very useful... When you have 9,000 people remotely using your applications, you want to make sure that they don't play with Facebook while they're supposed to be working... It also prevents installation of software that could be harmful or compromise the security of the phone."
"The integration and deployment of features in SOTI MobiControl are very easy and user-friendly."
"The admin part, where I'm adding users, is not too bad. It's easy enough to use."

Cons

"The solution could be improved by the opportunity to connect third-party application databases, such as Chocolatey or another setup store, to Intune."
"They should improve its compatibility with other operating systems such as iOS and Linux. It supports Linux but they still need to work on the iOS part."
"The reporting and cost have room for improvement."
"There is room for improvement in integrating additional features such as Purview and SharePoint activities into Intune."
"Microsoft needs to enhance device-level security, as sometimes when using Microsoft Intune, the device's operating system becomes stuck and requires a full uninstall to remove the Intune bug."
"It would be awesome if Microsoft opened their API so we could filter more properties. If we have to do anything outside of Intune that requires a third-party solution to talk back to it, we're very limited in what we can do. Trust your people. We promise not to break your stuff. Open it up just a tiny bit wider."
"Technical support can be challenging when resources shift, requiring repeated explanations. Support from India sometimes provides information without the right solution."
"There should be more focus on mobile device security and integration."
"There may be necessary adjustments that need to be made because we are facing certain restrictions within the work profile."
"We encounter issues while working with iOS."
"There is room for improvement in Sophos Mobile's security management for endpoint security."
"For Sophos Mobile, it is difficult to get good support."
"There's a need for better protection against hackers trying to access key accounts such as bank accounts."
"The technical support for Sophos Mobile requires improvement. I would rate it as five out of ten."
"In terms of what could be improved, the initial configuration and setup of the environment could probably be made a little bit easier. There are so many pieces that go into it. Intune is absolutely insane and Sophos is better, but it still is a bit complex to get it all set up correctly."
"To manage the Apple devices is not that straightforward there are a lot of features the other third parties solutions are offering which Sophos Mobile is not."
"The previous version, for example, had the networking signal and that feature was great. When we were troubleshooting, we could find the level of the network I/O. If the worker was working in a corner of the warehouse where the signal was not as strong as in another part of the warehouse, we could tell, "Just move a little and you will have coverage for your device." That was great. I don't know why they removed it from the newer version."
"One issue is that if someone is using an Apple device and they're on the SIM card for data, it does not push the SOTI management system through immediately. It only works when you have it on WiFi. That's something I've noticed as we're troubleshooting and deploying devices into the field."
"The management console could be improved to be a little bit more user-friendly. Some of the stuff is a little bit cumbersome, some of it feels like an engineering solution, but otherwise it's pretty good."
"In the next release, they should make it easier to migrate."
"I have used Microsoft Intune but it is more complicated than SOTI MobiControl."
"You need to get used to the admin console. I think it could be improved. It's not the best I've seen. Certainly, the software has a lot of features so you necessarily have some complexity in the interface, but I've seen better. They could make it easier in certain aspects."
"We're deploying an application upgrade. We can't do more than three or four devices at once, and we don't know if the device actually received the upgrade. There's no indicator saying it's 100 percent complete until everything is done. Let's say I work East to West. I work on the East Coast and I want to confirm it was done with the upgrades in that region. I wouldn't know until I actually went into it. There's no indicator telling me that it's complete."
"They could organize the software a little bit better, where you access things on the console. It seems like I have to click in three different places in order to get it to go to one area. I should be able to access pretty much any point of the server, whatever I need to touch, from a panel, without having to go click on a menu, then click on the profiles, then click over on Server and go back up to the top and click on the type of device that I have, just to get my applications to show."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"If you're ever going to buy an Office 365 environment, then pricing is reasonable given all that it does, but if you're not, then you might find the pricing expensive."
"There are licenses required for this solution. We enable licenses on the devices we need to manage."
"I am not that aware of the pricing, but as compared to other MDM solutions, Microsoft is providing a lot of things at the organizational level. So, it is quite reasonable as compared to other MDM solutions."
"They have categorized the licenses according to the size of the business. So, if it's a smaller organization, we can choose the license accordingly. If it's a big organization, then we can choose accordingly. Everything is clearly mentioned, and we can decide. It's suitable for all kinds of infrastructure, and that's very goo"
"Our enterprise agreement includes Microsoft Intune at no additional cost."
"Consider the Microsoft Enterprise Mobility Suite rather than choosing specific sub-components, e.g. only Microsoft Intune."
"We have the business premium licenses for the solution."
"Microsoft Intune is not cost-effective as a standalone product."
"Sophos Mobile is inexpensive."
"Apple is starting to do beta testing with their own solutions and for much cheaper than Sophos Mobile's price."
"The licensing fees are paid based on a one-year or two-year subscription."
"The product is not suitable for smaller companies because its price is high."
"It is a cost-effective solution."
"My company needs to make yearly payments for the licensing charges attached to the product."
"The licensing is paid on a yearly basis."
"Its pricing policy is not stable. The licensing is on a one-yearly, two-yearly, or three-yearly basis. There is no monthly fee."
"They've been pretty flexible with us, because we've changed the way we do our licensing a few times. We did a yearly, and then we went back and we did a quarterly, and I think we're back to yearly right now. We've been able to work stuff out and pricing has gone down since the onset. We've got a better rate per device and it's reasonable. The licensing cost from SOTI usually doesn't scare anybody, away once it's explained."
"SOTI is fairly priced. It's not super expensive. If you have a thousand devices that are licensed, it's going to start climbing up in price. Typically, it's like 25 bucks a seat for a year."
"There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is a low price, and ten is a high price, I rate the pricing a five."
"It makes sense to have scanners on SOTI MobiControl, but it makes less sense to have printers because there are fewer features for them, while the price is the same for both."
"Pricing is okay, but when you buy your renewal of licenses - at the end of the period or the year - if you have a lot of devices, obviously, it's going to increase. In the end, it's kind of expensive."
"The product is less expensive than one of its competitors."
