Secure access has transformed our audits and weekend operations run smoothly
StrongDM does not support multi-port and distributed clusters, as the raw TCP resource type is strictly single-port and cannot handle protocols requiring multiple concurrent ports or distributed brokers like Kafka. Third-party client compatibility is another area for improvement, as StrongDM is designed to work with the standard Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection on Windows but may not fully support alternative RDP clients like the Windows Store Remote Desktop.Additionally, StrongDM has limited MFA and passwordless options, relying heavily on time-based one-time passwords (OTP) or Duo, lacking support for true passwordless setups like biometrics or hardware YubiKeys, and it does not support per-session MFA. These are the drawbacks that need improvement for StrongDM.

Secure management of sensitive servers and seamless applications with direct linking
The credential injection feature is highly valued, particularly for RDP sessions. A majority of customers use it for RDP, and a couple for Linux servers. The broader capabilities, including access to multiple systems, web-based applications, and clustering, have never posed an issue. The threat analytics aspect is also a robust feature that analyzes all pertinent information.

Pros

"By adopting StrongDM, we have achieved benefits such as eliminating our weekend outages, streamlining ongoing on-call workflows, enabling seamless migration with POC transitions directly into production with minimal effort, allowing our engineers to use their preferred SQL clients like MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Workbench, and facilitating compliance through detailed session logs and query capture for SOC 2 and ISO audits."
"StrongDM replaced the puzzle of different solutions with one single product, which made managing resources more efficient."
"Since using StrongDM, I estimate around a 60% reduction in effort compared to other PAM tools."
"I absolutely would say that the best features of StrongDM and what I appreciate about the solution is that time to onboard is absolutely minimal."
"Since using StrongDM, I estimate around a 60% reduction in effort compared to other PAM tools."
"The best features in StrongDM are that it is the easiest product in the market for this situation with easy access."
"StrongDM has positively impacted my organization by saving me a lot of time as a security auditor, because I have to navigate settings and configurations to check the presence of certain security controls in place."
"StrongDM positively impacts our organization in many ways, mainly in cost savings from the time saved, and it has significantly improved both security and operational efficiency for us."
"I like the fact that passwords are checked-in automatically."
"This application is very easy, fast, and trustworthy!"
"Some of the valuable features are safe access to company resources, quick, comprehensible, and intuitive management interface, and good integration capabilities."
"According to the users who have actually used CyberArk and CA PAM, they have said that CA PAM is ten times easier to use and manage."
"Transparent login and cluster synchronization are quite stable compared with other products, and it is easy to manage for the administrator."
"The most important feature is that we do not need to know the passwords any more; just having access to the end point; and that it’s easy to manage users and the account."
"Stability is solid as a rock."
"The exposure of sensitive usernames and passwords has been limited in a massive way."

Cons

"It would be beneficial to have better control and alignment between frequent updates and improved communication regarding possible negative effects on existing customer bases."
"We've had a few issues with the stability of this product in the past."
"I think the stability of StrongDM is about four to five due to the occasional crashes that I mentioned."
"I believe StrongDM can improve its initial setup and onboarding experience for larger enterprise environments like Scania, where we have a lot of processes."
"I rate the stability of the product five out of ten because crashes sometimes happen when we are working on it."
"My thoughts on the pricing of StrongDM is that it is expensive."
"Integration, however, is something which admins configure with StrongDM, and in that area, it can be improved."
"Additionally, StrongDM has limited MFA and passwordless options, relying heavily on time-based one-time passwords (OTP) or Duo, lacking support for true passwordless setups like biometrics or hardware YubiKeys, and it does not support per-session MFA."
"They should include some assignments in the test environment to explore the product's features."
"What I hope happens with the new product CA PAM is to keep all the useful features that exist in PA, but what I’ve noticed with many new products is the UI gets polished but systems lags stability and performance or it adds additional complexity instead of simplifying the user experience."
"Stability is a problem that we fight every day."
"The setup was complex."
"We have encountered stability issues at various software and hardware versions, but we worked with the support team to quickly stabilize our environment."
"The response time for support could be faster. Some features should be added: cloud-based, VPN-less, more secure, and it should be adjusted in a hybrid environment."
"The service account management functionality needs to be extended to application pools, SQL database, PowerShell scripts, service account discovery, etc."
"I don't really know much on the pricing side."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing is per user per month."
"It is more expensive than other solutions on the market."
"Pricing is fair compared to other top vendors."
"The licensing is simple and scalable."
"Cost-wise, CA was better compared to others in the market. "
"Don’t go with an agent model. Don’t go with a model that has you buying a thousand different parts. Go with PAM that gives you everything, or you’ll just be paying costs of implementing another tool that PAM would have just given you up front."
"The prices are not low, but one can ask for a discount. It’s not the cheapest PAM solution."
"I would prefer better licensing options for the 20-100 users we have at a given time."
"The version we are using is affordable compared to BeyondTrust, which is maybe three to four times as expensive, but it depends on the features."
