Has an easy initial setup process, but its technical support services need improvement
The product's technical support could be better. The integration project requires a lot of technical details, so we need to find it quickly and easily. There was a large community of knowledge in the past. We kept it together and got the results. The community that works around the particular technical issue is shrinking. It used to be a specialized community that would help with the process. These particular areas need improvement. Broadcom is still using a hybrid cloud model, with some workloads on-premises and some in the cloud. They must start with the cloud adoption and move as many workloads to the cloud as possible. The on-premises environment is becoming stable. They need to rebuild that cost and the software. The product's pre-sales, technical support, and installation could also improve.

The ability to customize the UI would be good nonetheless, it is still a great interface.
Don't get overwhelmed with the product, and give an honest effort in trying to implement it yourself. You will find that you have opened an enormous door for yourself to get anything done. Since I started using UMRA, any request that comes through my desk is almost immediately possible because I know what UMRA can do. Also, creating the projects yourself, will save you time and money in the future when updates are needed to existing projects. Tools4Ever technical support is always available to answer questions if you get stuck. That said, UMRA is primarily a user management tool for your users, in whatever directory you happen to be using; So my statement above will only apply if you are also quite well versed with the workings of said directory.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The valuable features are the speed and the ability to provision all of our employees, and I like the usability as well."
"What I found most valuable in Symantec Identity Governance and Administration is its simple GUI. It's also easy to deploy compared to other products. With other products, you have to install the Windows version inside the Windows machine on all units, but with Symantec Identity Governance and Administration, it can work offline, so the solution is a little bit easier than other systems."
"Identify Manager helped us move to a more automated model with fewer manual interactions."
"In the processes where we need to analyze data, IG has enabled and facilitated the analysis of privileges, generation of roles to cover RBAC and integrate with the solution of Identity Manager, as well as the compliance aspect by the certification of privileges “Compliance”."
"I don't see any issues with CA, and everyone in the business is happy with CA and their support."
"Compliance improvements."
"With the Identity Manager product, we're able to automate that in a way that we couldn't in the past."
"The features that I find most valuable are the creation of access and admin roles, and you can also manage many different applications -- more than one hundred -- in only one box."
"UMRA has been in production for seven years, and I can confidently say that I have never had a single issue with stability, even through upgrades."

Cons

"Not a ten because of the complex setup and because we had some issues applying some patches."
"Customer Service: It's a little bit difficult to support. Technical Support: It's reasonable. The support is not the quickest to respond and does not have a mature process in terms of what logs must be gathered, and what to gather before raising a case."
"The initial setup was very complex. The product is just basically a conglomerate of a bunch of other products that were bought and pieced together."
"We had a consultant firm come in and do the install originally in 2009. They did a very bad job."
"I would not recommend this product to others."
"Something to help us migrate our code between environments from QA to UA to production in an easier way."
"Subsequent functionality within CA IM is not appropriately documented creating issues."
"Identity manager is very complex and you must have the knowledge and skills required to use it."
"Scalability, however, can only happen vertically on any particular instance, as opposed to horizontally."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The connector is free, and bundled with the product."
"The product has a good price in competition with another product with the same solution."
"Symantec keeps increasing the price. I rate its pricing a seven on a scale of ten."
"The price is flexible for our existing customers."
"I do not recall the approximate prices or licensing models, although I do so that it was priced per user number."
"Pricing and licensing models are adequate and reasonable."
"The price is based on the number of users."
"Compared to other options, CA products are not that expensive."
