Ease of developing dashboards and receiving strong technical support have enabled efficient data visualization
Introducing custom features, such as NLP-based reports, is not very good in Tableau. My MD has been asking us for a way to write in natural language to request reports that the system should generate, but that isn't very effective with Tableau. As a developer, I can develop an on-demand report in Python quite easily, but exposing a REST API on the Tableau platform is not a very easy task. AI enablement is an area for improvement for Tableau, and that is something they might have to work upon. I have heard that ThoughtSpot is quite better in this regard, but the cost of ThoughtSpot is much higher. ThoughtSpot has lots of natural language-based report generation features that Tableau lacks.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The best part about Tableau is the visualization."
"The maps and colors and interface are all fantastic."
"You can create attractive dashboards that inform users using Tableau."
"Tableau's visualization features let you present information insights quickly and practically. So it's something which I prefer with Tableau. In terms of reporting, I have to point out the sheer quality and function of the Tableau server, but the first impression is that it's a great visualization tool."
"The drill-down approach and interactivity in Tableau are highly effective."
"The best features with Tableau Enterprise are about data discovery because it is important; data discovery is easy, it is easy to diagram different plots and different elements, and it is easy to discover insights about the data."
"The solution is easy to use, flexible, our clients enjoy seeing the data on maps, and you do not need to be an expert in SQL to use it."
"It is a very stable product. It doesn't break."
"It is a central source of up-to-date data and information."
"It is able to create information dashboards for various users' throughout."
"It reduces time to reproduce reports, provides easy access to organisational data, and has the ability to generate a wide range of reports and analysis."

Cons

"When we put more information on a single screen, it gets compressed and superimposed in many places while scrolling."
"The user story model is the most deceptive part of Tableau. It is a big marketing option, however, the reality is that it is not enough."
"Improvements in schema security and row/column security need to be made."
"From the developer perspective, the data connection handling the target data set is what most needs to be improved."
"I don't have the ability in Tableau to create a tooltip and see the picture of a piece of jewelry or watch that is a best seller."
"Formatting controls could use some improvement."
"I would like Tableau Prep to be integrated with Tableau Desktop. I would also like more customizations for tables."
"Pricing is also a concern for me as it is expensive compared to TIBCO Spotfire Enterprise licensing and Microsoft Power Platform."
"It needs more presentation/charting capabilities and integration with GIS."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is a bit overpriced."
"Licensing fees are paid on a yearly basis."
"Tableau is an expensive solution."
"Basically, we prefer a permanent license. A one-time charge is much better."
"I'm using Tableau Public, which is free."
"Tableau can be costly (but this can be indefinable, such as user experience vs. cheaper etc.)"
"The price is definitely a point because smaller firms don't use Tableau as it's an expensive tool."
"The pricing is $70 per month. You have to pay about $800 or something in that ballpark annually for one license."
