The ability to quickly connect to all of our datasources, whether its a Oracle or MySQL database, and excel sheet of a csv file and produce a rich interactive visualisation that can then be shared amongst everyone on site is fantastic.

I'm able to prototype charts and dashboards in hours versus days or weeks with other tools, and it blends disparate datasets together which is awesome for plan versus actual reports where the data is at two different levels of granularity.

In v8.1 there was a problem with big Excel files - for ex: if you have an Excel spreadsheet with three sheets and more then 300,000 rows in each one and you want to add it as one datasource linked by one key field - your Tableau Desktop will be very slowly.

Expansion of number of visualisations, as well as potential for straight to dashboard function, rather than design individual visualisation – these are, however, genuinely not priority to amend.
