What is our primary use case?
Our primary use case for
Oracle Multitenant is related to our utility service in a company mainly focused on electricity. We use the database for applications related to utility service, like billing for inter-building applications in an electricity company. The
Oracle Database 19c helps us generate billing for 34 lakh consumers, distributed across different states in India, and manage electricity distribution.
What is most valuable?
Valuable features include managing applications with Oracle Apex, a low-code platform that saves time in application development. We have been using
Oracle Database since 2004, migrating through various versions to 19c. This experience gives us extensive Oracle knowledge.
Oracle Multitenant's pluggable database is easy to handle and manage, sharing resources with the container database effectively.
What needs improvement?
Currently, I have a very good experience with Oracle Multitenant. The pluggable database is easy to handle and manage, sharing resources efficiently. However, Oracle license pricing is an issue due to its high cost. Our organization is compelled to reduce CPU usage by seventy CPUs because the Oracle license cost depends on it.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have more than two, actually more than three, years of experience with Oracle Multitenant.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability of Oracle Multitenant is excellent, and I would rate it a nine out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Oracle Multitenant is extremely scalable, and I would rate its scalability a nine out of ten.
How are customer service and support?
Oracle's technical support is good, and the team helps us a lot with new things.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We have been using Oracle Database since 2003. Although we are exploring other options due to pricing, switching is not feasible as our applications rely heavily on Oracle.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup of the pluggable database was not straightforward due to the complexity of our billing system, which is crucial for our operations. The entire billing system and applications run on Oracle Multitenant, and it is vital to ensure no disruptions.
What about the implementation team?
We work with Oracle partners through whom we get support.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Oracle's licensing costs are very high. Due to the increased license costs, we migrated from Oracle hardware like SuperCluster and MiniCluster to HPE Nutanix to manage costs while continuing to use Oracle Database 19c.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Our management considered Nutanix, but it is difficult to switch from Oracle Database due to its robustness and trusted performance. Thus, we've only changed our hardware stack but continue with Oracle Database.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Oracle Multitenant nine out of ten. Despite high Oracle licensing costs, delaying cost-effective migration due to business concerns, Oracle remains crucial for our applications, and we trust in its reliability for future operations.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises
