Service Delivery Manager at a computer software company with 10,001+ employees
Enterprise solution that works well for manufacturing, retail, logistics, wholesaling, and distribution areas
Pros and Cons
- "SAP S4HANA Cloud is one of the best products in enterprise solutions, especially in manufacturing, retail, logistics, wholesaling, and distribution."
- "SAP promotes the cloud, but customers are worried about the security of their data. SAP suggests they have SAP S4HANA with RISE, which is a private cloud environment, but it is difficult to sell many of the customers on the cloud concept because of the privacy issues."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
SAP S4HANA Cloud is one of the best products in enterprise solutions, especially for manufacturing, retail, logistics, wholesaling, and distribution. I've worked with other ERP systems, and SAP is a very good product.
What needs improvement?
SAP promotes the cloud, but customers are worried about the security of their data. SAP suggests they have SAP S4HANA with RISE, which is a private cloud environment, but it is difficult to sell many of the customers on the cloud concept because of the privacy issues. Customers definitely look for how their data can be protected in a larger organization.
The interface is an area where improvement is needed. From the interface perspective, there are a couple of products which are definitely available only on cloud, like Ariba. In that case, if there's a public cloud, then they need to go for SuccessFactors. There is a combination of SuccessFactors without Payroll, and then you have your ERP on-premise, S4HANA on-premise with finance and the HCM component of Payroll, so that you can have data protected over there.
SuccessFactors is a public cloud because they have good connectivity between their systems and the VTP platform. On the other hand, if Ariba is for a very large organization, this is a concern.
For the banking and finance sector, SAP S4HANA Cloud has competition with Oracle.
How are customer service and support?
I would rate technical support 4.5 out of 5.

Good functionality with friendly UI; some limitations and restrictions on what can be customized
Pros and Cons
- "Speed has improved and getting analytical reports has been simplified."
- "Public cloud is single-tenant so there are limitations on what can be customized."
What is our primary use case?
I'm a company director.
What is most valuable?
This product has all the functions that SAP had but this is a better product with additional functionalities as well as a much more friendly user interface. It can be used on Windows, Android and iOS. The speed has improved and getting analytical reports is much easier than it was in the past. I think it's the best software for manufacturing and retail.
What needs improvement?
I'd like to see them shift their focus beyond manufacturing industries because there are other kinds of organizations that could benefit from this product. Public cloud is single-tenant so there are some limitations and restrictions on what can be customized or enhanced. As a result, we advise our customers to use enterprise cloud, on-prem, or other options. Some of our customers complain that the cost is too high and for smaller organizations, it's a large financial investment.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this solution for six years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is very stable and that's one of the reasons I recommend it. It's a key point.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This is the most scalable enterprise solution that we have.
How are customer service and support?
The customer support is great and that enables us to assure our customers that the process will be a smooth one.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is quite straightforward; it has all the services required and onboarding new users is relatively simple. SAP carried out the initial implementation for us. Our company has been deploying these solutions for 20 years.
What other advice do I have?
For now, I rate this solution seven out of 10 because some of the functions of S4HANA are not yet available in the cloud version.
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.

Director of Operations of Support / co CEO at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
Stable application which supports both standard and customized integrations
Pros and Cons
- "Both standard and customized integrations work well with no issues."
- "Difficult to install and difficult to test. Testing needs to be improved. Scalability of this solution also needs improvement."
What is most valuable?
One of the advantages of this product is integration. It has a really fantastic integration. I always have a one-to-one with my integration consultants: doing the success factor integration with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, or doing other types of integrations. We have a lot of methods for integration: standard integration and customized integration with third parties. The integrations work well with no issues.
What needs improvement?
SAP S/4HANA Cloud vs Oracle: In Oracle, for example, you can easily install even Oracle 19c or the latest version in your laptop. You can test it, get it certified, and even look for the application, but it's really difficult to install Hana. It's really difficult to reach any testing environment. It's difficult to test the version.
I'm struggling to hire in my team. While I was with Oracle for 15 years as a senior manager for their support solution center in Smart Village, I didn't face that much of a struggle in hiring like what I'm facing now in SAP. This is because Oracle (like Microsoft) made their products available for downloading, testing, etc., but for SAP, it's difficult.
I've had sufficient time to evaluate ByD. It is going on the right track in terms of improvement: technical-wise and featurewise. There's nothing you need to improve in this solution's performance. There's nothing major in its essential or core features: in the FI or supply chain or procurement through the cloud. It's doing a great job.
Testing is the main thing I'd like to see improved.
An additional feature I'd like to see on SAP S/4HANA Cloud is the production application or module. For small to medium businesses, there's only a finance module and the standard non-finance module, e.g. supply chain, but there's no production planning. That is a factor. We need to use the smaller version of production planning with the smaller version of quality management. I hope to see this feature in the cloud application.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this solution for six years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I see this application as really stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
They need to improve SAP S/4HANA Cloud's scalability and make it like Oracle's. They need to do more about scalability. This is a major issue and they need to put more effort into it, but I think they are improving.
How are customer service and support?
I don't have complaints about the support. They were able to point out the problem.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I evaluated Oracle.
What other advice do I have?
I don't have much information about AWS, but it's booming. I hear a lot of customers moving to AWS because they say it's stable and has no major issues with it. I have more experience with SAP S/4HANA Cloud though, and it's fantastic. It's going very well. Most of the small to medium companies are now moving to business by design. This is a very great application.
Hana hosting vs AWS: It is the same in Hana, but on cloud. I'm talking about the cloud application, e.g. ByD. This is great.
This solution isn't resource-intensive. It's a low-key solution.
S4 Hana on cloud vs on-premises: It's been years since on-premise deployment has been applied. All should move to the cloud version. You will be forced to move to the cloud version. No more on-premise will be available for this solution.
I've been working in the last five or six years focusing on SAP cloud applications, even the on-premises ones. It ranks number one from my point of view. The other products in the market are also doing fine, but from the integration point of view, especially in the production and manufacturing industries: It's the number one application in manufacturing, so this gives a great advantage to SAP.
I would say to every CEO or to any company that they should start looking into moving their applications and their database. They should move everything to cloud before they are forced to do it because of limited time. They need to be proactive in this direction because there's a lot of benefits from the cloud from a performance perspective. It helps people to focus on data analysis, reports, and maintenance of cloud environments. It requires less effort on the IT people, so we can use them to start focusing on other current digitalization requirements. There's a lot of challenges and they need to sprint all of their work e.g. field work, work related to hardware and networking switches, etc.
I'm giving this solution a score of eight out of ten.

Has good manufacturing features but the AI can be improved
Pros and Cons
- "The manufacturing area is a good feature."
- "Their revolving AI should should be better improved."
What is most valuable?
The manufacturing is a good feature.
What needs improvement?
Their revolving AI should should be better improved.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have experience using SAP S/4HANA Cloud.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability depends on the infrastructure.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is highly scalable. We have a very large company.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is complex. The deployment takes six to eight months.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution is affordable.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, I would rate the solution a seven out of ten.

Useful in managing sales activities such as production, packing, outbound, and inbound.
Pros and Cons
- "It is a straightforward solution."
- "The product can be improved by including a module for after-sales service modules."
What is our primary use case?
Our primary use case for the solution is processing funds. All active sales and sales activities are managed on SAP S/4HANA, which is production, packing, outbound, and inbound.
What is most valuable?
It is a straightforward solution.
What needs improvement?
The product can be improved by including a module for after-sales service modules. Those modules should make it easier for the people on the floor to register the refund and exchanges because, currently, the setup is too chaotic. Currently, in the after-sales service, people working in the call centers are taking care of a specific SAP session, which is always full of problems. So they should look closely and see what's wrong with that and why it is not always working because we often have problems and errors in those modules.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using this solution for approximately ten months and are currently working with the version SAP S/4HANNA.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable. It is mainly meant for big companies and is not something that can be done for smaller companies.
How are customer service and support?
I rate our experience with customer service and support a nine out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is understandable, but we often deploy it to SAP consultants.
What about the implementation team?
We implemented it through a vendor team.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution is quite expensive. I rate the pricing a four out of ten.
What other advice do I have?
I rate the solution an eight out of ten. The solution is good but can be improved by including modules for after-sales service and enabling integration with third parties. SAP is prominent in the market, and it has many solutions adaptable to different kinds of industries. Enterprises also tend to focus on digitalization and digital management. SAP was one of the first to be available for this demand because it was already on the market. So they were pushing their activities and their marketing as well. So that's how they got into the market first, and they rapidly improved based on feedback.

Stable, reliable business management system
Pros and Cons
- "S/4HANA Cloud is very stable."
- "The implementation time for S/4HANA Cloud could be reduced."
What is our primary use case?
I use S/4HANA Cloud to manage our business and maintain our raw materials and finances, accounts, employee details, supplier details, invoices, payments, and all supply-chain management details.
What needs improvement?
The implementation time for S/4HANA Cloud could be reduced. The UI could also be improved.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using S/4HANA Cloud for a year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
S/4HANA Cloud is very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
S/4HANA Cloud is scalable.
How are customer service and support?
S/4HANA Cloud's technical support is excellent.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward but had a few steps that took some time. I would rate the setup experience 4 out of 5.
What other advice do I have?
S/4HANA Cloud is a top-notch product and a stable, reliable system for managing a business. I'd advise anybody implementing this solution to do it on cloud rather than local and private data centers and to check SAP's documentation to get an idea of the implementation time and costs. I would give S/4HANA Cloud a rating of eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Reliable with great features and good accounting capabilities
Pros and Cons
- "The solution is stable."
- "The solution is expensive. That can be an issue for clients."
What is our primary use case?
The solution is used to solve many activities. We use it, for example, for backoffice, to solve the problem in control and governance. It gives us more "information control". That's the main mission of ERP software.
How has it helped my organization?
In this case, my organization is a consultancy. But I can speak for my customers, SAP is not only to basic business processes, it also paves the way for leveraging the company's digital transformation.
What is most valuable?
The accounting on SAP is great. Accounting is the main point for me. It's very strong and offers the most security. The technology is scalable and security is too.
The solution is stable.
The features and capabilities in general are great.
It scales very well.
What needs improvement?
The BTP, business transaction platform, could be better. There need to be improvements and more services like to AWS, GCP and Azure services.
The solution is expensive. That can be an issue for clients.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for almost fifteen years at this point.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is quite stable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. We have found it to be reliable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Being a cloud solution, it can scale very well and quite easily.
How are customer service and support?
I don't deal with technical support directly. Typically, a client and SAP would interface together. As I don't have any experience with them, I can't rate their services.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We are also using AWS and are AWS partners. We also use Oracle NetSuite.
There's another solution similar to SAP called Odoo, which is an ERP cloud. They promote themselves to the middle market. For me, S4HANA, the capabilities are the best, however, the price is so difficult for clients in the middle market. There's also Business One and that is better than S4HANA if you are looking at just the price.
How was the initial setup?
It's moderately difficult to install the product. It's not simple or easy. It can be a bit complex. However, we use the best practices, and therefore it isn't too bad.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution is quite expensive, and, for middle-market clients, it may be too expensive. There are other options that are a bit cheaper.
What other advice do I have?
My company is an SAP partner. We are also resellers.
I would recommend SAP S4HANA to a middle-market or big company. It's the best option for organizations of that size.
I'd rate the solution an eight out of ten, however, I am aware that it is a bit expensive for many clients.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Private Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

It's massively scalable and capable of handling all aspects of business for a large enterprise
Pros and Cons
- "SAP is an extremely powerful ERP. In my past company, we used it on a massive large scale, and it was amazing."
- "The only thing I would improve is the overall user experience, particularly the mobile app. S/4HANA is a powerful, scalable platform, but the user experience isn't positive. It's a bit complex. The look and feel aren't attractive, and the mobile experience isn't great."
How has it helped my organization?
S/4HANA is an ERP solution. It can be used across the complete ERP landscape, including HR, finance, supply chain, procurement, and logistics.
What is most valuable?
SAP is an extremely powerful ERP. In my past company, we used it on a massive large scale, and it was amazing.
What needs improvement?
The only thing I would improve is the overall user experience, particularly the mobile app. S/4HANA is a powerful, scalable platform, but the user experience isn't positive. It's a bit complex. The look and feel aren't attractive, and the mobile experience isn't great.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using SAP S/4HANA for the past seven years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
S/4HANA is massively scalable. My last company had half a million employees in 170 countries. My current employer has tens of thousands.
How are customer service and support?
SAP support is average.
How was the initial setup?
I wasn't involved in installing S/4HANA, but my colleagues tell me it's easier to set up than Oracle. SAP's implementation is more flexible than Oracle's.
The deployment time varies from customer to customer. The minimum is around two months, but it depends. If you're on the cloud, it takes two months to do the customization. It involves data entry plus customization and configuration.
A small cloud-based implementation might not take as long. It depends on the number of modules as well. Some customers want all the modules, but others only want one. It isn't easy to say a specific timeline, but it can be one month to a year.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I don't remember the specifics about the licensing, but it's scaled and modular. You pay for what you use. It's not a one-size-fits-all license. You have a license for every single module. It's similar to Oracle.
What other advice do I have?
I rate S/4HANA eight out of 10. I recommend it. My advice is that you need to clearly define your requirements before purchasing SAP or any ERP software. You also must ensure that your implementation partner is qualified. SAP is a great product, but you need a good implementation partner to implement it correctly.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud
