Sophos XG can be deployed on-premise and on the cloud.
We use Sophos XG as a network firewall for many use cases, such as offices, residential, and data centers.

Sophos XG could improve the connectivity with Microsoft 365 or Azure Active Directory(AD). It doesn't work directly as other solutions do, such as Fortinet FortiGate. The client needs a separate AD server which is a problem.
There is no endpoint software for Linux systems, only the server version runs on Linux.
I have been using Sophos XG for approximately fours years.
The stability of Sophos XG is very good. However, there have been some issues with other weaker models because they are limited in hardware in resources.
We had an issue, but after speaking to the technical support, I understood it was a problem with Sophos, not a firewall problem, but with the endpoint that was related to the encryption of the disc. The problem is if you have a computer controlled by Azure at the same time as Sophos, then there may be some incompatibility problem between them because both of them are trying to control the computer and the encryption of the hard drive.
I have used other firewall solutions, such as Fortinet Foregate and Check Point.
The initial setup of Sophos XG is simple, but Cisco Meraki is easier.
Since I have used Sophos XG long time it is easier than Fortinet FortiGate or Check Point.
Sophos XG is not an expensive solution. If you are willing to pay more, then there is the Check Point firewall which is the best out of all the vendors.
I would advise other Sophos XG is a great solution because it is synchronized security between the endpoint and firewall which is unique. I'm not sure if Fortinet FortiGate has this technology, but it is a good technology in Sophos XG. Sophos was perhaps the first to use this kind of technology. What it does is if your computer gets infected, then the endpoint tells the firewall that, it is infected and the firewall doesn't allow the use of the network at all. It'll lock it down on this computer.
I rate Sophos XG a nine out of ten.
This solution is used by both us and our customers.
As this product has recently changed, we are learning about the features of Sophos XG one step at a time.
Sophos began with a basic version and evolved into something more efficient in terms of performance.
It integrates well with other Sophos products, such as the Sophos Firewall, Sophos Endpoint, and other features in a cloud platform, to help the customer better manage security on their site.
I would like to have a more efficient logging process & real time analisys. The logging, expecially with EDR subscription, is something that needs improvement.
I would like to see email management improved to have more features and options for integrating with other solutions, expecially cloud based.
We started working with Sophos XG when it was known as Astaro AG. I have been working with this solution for more than 10 years.
Technical support is always an issue, not just with Sophos but also with other brands. It is extremely difficult to interact with support within the time frame that the customer expects.
In general, it takes more time to solve a problem, and better independent actions are required.
The initial setup can be difficult. You should be familiar with Sophos or have prior knowledge of it, as it requires concepts from older versions of Sophos, the Sophos SG, the Cyberoam environment, and everything that has recently been introduced.
It is better to have some training before using this solution.
The price is reasonable in my opinion.
I began looking into Fortinet solutions simply to compare some features.
I would always recommend conducting a thorough analysis before deciding on a solution because Sophos may have some oversight for some of the tasks. It is beneficial to examine the environment that the Sophos product will be used, considering the integration with other features.
I would rate Sophos XG an eight out of ten.
We use the solution mainly as a firewall.
The solution improves security.
It's easy to use, but it's harder to configure when you want detailed settings. They need to make it easier to access advanced features.
The solution seems pretty stable. We've had no issues so far.
We haven't had to scale anything so far, so I'm unsure about the scalability of the solution.
I've never had to deal directly with technical support.
We did not previously use a different solution.
Implementation is straightforward. The only thing that was difficult was that we had some special cases and we had to dig in a lot to find the information for accessing very specific features. Deployment took about a week, however, we did about 6 months of research beforehand. You can deploy the solution with maybe one or two people, but we used five. We only need one person for ongoing maintenance.
We handled the implementation ourselves.
We don't have any costs above the licensing of the solution itself.
We are using the on-premises deployment model.
The solution is easy to implement, however, if you do decide on this solution, I would make sure that you have someone that has experience with this kind of solution or to hire someone to implement the solution properly. It will make everything much easier in the long run.
I would rate the solution 9.5 out of ten.
The endpoint protection plan is the most valuable feature of the solution.
The filtering is very easy to do. You can segment and create profiles for usage very easily.
The UTM itself needs improvement. When you're navigating it seems like it takes forever to load anything. The hardware is okay. It's just the software that could be more responsive.
We do updates periodically, but the solution is very stable. We haven't had to go back to the site to reconfigure it or anything like that.
At the moment, we haven't had a reason to contact technical support.
The initial setup is very straightforward.
We implemented the solution ourselves.
We tend to go for the bundle because it's pricing is competitive. If a unit comes out and they bundle the hardware with the software, it seems to work for us. I've seen that with future upgrades coming up, that features like this will be taken away. The option to get a combo with hardware means the software portion is mostly free, and then you pay upfront for the three-year license for everything.
However, with the changes, I don't think that's going to be available anymore. It might sway our clients away from Sophos. Maybe there's something that can be worked out. Other than that, we've been happy with the price. It's competitive if you compare it to the competition, from a price point of view.
We use a variety of deployment models, including public cloud, private cloud, and on-premises.
For what we are using the solution for, its practically perfect. We don't need other features added. The solution offers exactly what we need.
I would rate the solution seven out of ten.
The product has been upgraded, and one of the features we were looking for has been incorporated into the newer version. It has allowed me to customize for my needs as well.
The past six months.
Nothing. No issues. It is quite stable.
This is a little bit of a challenge. Scalability is one issue with the hardware device and hardware files. Any kind of hardware file which has been delivered has been a challenge.
Sophos is being preferred only because of their technical support. The tech support there is very good. It is a five-star support system that they have there.
Our previous solution was Check Point. I switched to Sophos just because of the pricing issue.
It is very user-friendly to set up. Very straightforward.
Pricing is very competitive in the market.
Only Check Point. That was the one product which I evaluated.
The support is awesome. QA is very simple, and the administration is very straightforward.
Our customers use Sophos XG as a firewall.
The solution could improve by making the graphical interface better and increasing the performance.
I have been using this solution for approximately three years.
The solution is stable.
The scalability of Sophos XG is good.
Most of our customers are small to middle-sized businesses.
The support we have received from the partner has been good.
We use Sophos XG, Fortinet, and Palo Alto solutions.
The installation is easy. There is a wizard that can be used for a single connection making it simple and if you have multiple connections you can configure it manually.
Sophos tends to have less performance compared to Fortinet, and Palo Alto solutions.
I rate Sophos XG a six out of ten.
We manage other companies' IT infrastructure and some of them use this network solution.
The most valuable feature I have found to be the reporting function.
Some of the firewall rules are complicated for us to understand, they should be simplified.
I have been using this solution for approximately five years.
We have used many different versions. In some of the older versions, the refreshing time took approximately 20 min which is too long, and in other versions, we experienced other stability issues.
The solution is scalable. We have approximately 25 clients using this solution.
The technical support was very good before. However, now it is very difficult for us to reach them. There are crucial times when we need to speak to support but they take up to three hours to resolve or to address the issue. Sometimes it takes them 45 minutes to answer the call. When you are with a client you cannot wait this long.
The technical support needs to improve their response time in answering the calls and finding a solution.
The installation is easy. However, configuring the permissions or rules in the new version is difficult and in the older version, it was simple.
The price of the solution is reasonable when comparing it to other solutions.
I would recommend this solution to others.
I rate Sophos XG a seven out of ten.
We are using a basic model for its security features. We are in the hospitality industry and it has all of the features that we need.
The interface is user-friendly and the product is easy to configure.
Support for this product is something that is really important, and it needs to improve.
I have been using Sophos XG for almost eight years.
This solution has been stable so far.
This is a scalable product and we have about 45 people using it.
Only one person is required for maintenance.
Before the current pandemic, technical support was good, but it is becoming worse.
In the past, I have worked with SonicWall and Fortinet products.
I prefer Sophos because of the user-friendly configuration and stability.
The initial setup is easy.
This is a budget-friendly product with reasonable pricing.
In summary, this is a good product and other than the support, I don't think that there is anything else that will improve it for us.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
Good to know the support is dependable. Thanks Vikas.
