What is our primary use case?
Unit 42 is a Managed Detection and Response solution with MDR capabilities. I use it in a managed service context where my organization's security needs are catered to by Palo Alto.
Generally, it is suitable for mid-enterprise and SMB customers like us, who prefer not to invest heavily in our own infrastructure.
What is most valuable?
Unit 42 MDR provides us with managed detection and response functionalities, eliminating the need for capital expenditure since it is an operational expenditure-based service.
We have the flexibility to switch vendors if needed, so flexibility stands out as a significant feature. There is also no requirement for maintenance on our part, as it is handled by Palo Alto, ensuring the solution is automated and well-managed. This allows my organization to focus on strategic activities without engaging in daily IT operations manually.
What needs improvement?
I prefer having local data sovereignty. It would be advantageous for Palo Alto to have local data centers across different countries to adhere to this requirement.
I also have a concern regarding pricing, which is perceived as high compared to competitors.
Improvements should focus on response times and reducing the time taken to reach solutions.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used Unit 42 for five to six years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Overall, it is a stable solution with rare cases of issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is highly scalable.
How are customer service and support?
Customer support is satisfactory, however, I see room for improvement, especially in terms of response time and the promptness in arriving at solutions. On a scale from one to ten, I would rate customer service as seven.
How would you rate customer service and support?
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward as it consists of integration rather than installation, and Palo Alto manages everything.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I find the pricing to be expensive, especially when compared with competitors who offer significant discounts. Palo Alto has room to become more competitive in its pricing.
What other advice do I have?
On a scale of one to ten, I would rate Unit 42 MDR solution overall as a six. However, due to the lack of local instances, I could also rate it lower, around five, from my perspective.
