I can't really speak of a use case per say. Anything on a computer requires an operating system to run it and this is where Windows 10 comes in.
IT at a financial services firm with 201-500 employees
A stable solution that allows for effective management and boasts a built-in antivirus firewall
Pros and Cons
- "Windows 10 is unique in that it comes with its own antivirus firewall, which obviates the need to purchase one separately."
- "I would prefer to see an OS that is lighter."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
First off, I would count stability as a valuable feature. Then, I would mention Microsoft's effective management.
Moreover, Windows 10 is unique in that it comes with its own antivirus firewall, which obviates the need to purchase one separately. Although we have an antivirus enterprise, the Windows 10 antivirus and anti-spam features can be relied on in their own right.
Take me, for example. I don't have an antivirus solution on my personal computer at home, but rely on the feature that comes with Windows 10. I have had no issues with the security. At work we make use of Symantec as our official antivirus solution and this is to provide the company with extra security measures.
So, out of the box, you can get a stable, efficient and secure solution in Windows 10.
What needs improvement?
I would prefer to see an OS that is lighter. We are currently in the process of reviewing the OS and it seems we can get away with using it without the need to pay a license fee. We are talking about a UNIX server OS that is very light and can be installed on any device, even a tension one, such as a PC. If this can be used to run things effectively then it means that the OS is really good. We're going to test it in the areas of security, functionality and adaptability to the environment. I need to be integrated to an active directory.
So these are some of the models and key features that we're going to test to see if we can install them in our environments, get them working with our active directory, and examine if our solution, our applications, are compatible with them. If the OS can perform these key functions then perhaps we can consider getting laptops and computers that do not require OS or that come with three BSD, for example, which would allow us to do installation.
I don't know if I would recommend Windows 10. The resource consumption can stand improvement. Much memory is used up and this quickly leads to the CPU running out.
The operating system should be optimized to a point where it manages RAM and re-computes computer resources much more effectively. When an application is running on Windows 10 it has a tendency to consume the entire RAM. Once optimized, very weak machines would be able to effectively run Windows 10. If, for example, one were running a graphics intensive application on Windows 10, the entire memory would tend to be consumed, the application would drag and the RAM would be insufficient to run it. A terminal check would demonstrate that even the functionality of Windows 10 would be excessively consuming the resources of the system.
For how long have I used the solution?
I cannot say for certain for how long I have been using Windows 10, although I do know that it has been a long time, perhaps since 2016.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable.
How are customer service and support?
I'm satisfied with the solution's technical support.
How was the initial setup?
The solution is pretty straightforward and easy to install.
Deployment does not take more than 15 minutes, give or take. 90 percent of the systems we purchase come with Windows 10 pre-installed. The process is pretty easy. One just need follow the prompts and put in his region, time, zone and preferred language. The next step is to join the domain, at which point the user is built and work can commence.
What about the implementation team?
While installation can be done independently, it would really be up to the IT department to get this done.
What other advice do I have?
There is currently no integration of which to speak concerning Windows 10. It is a workstation ware.
The solution is also deployed on-premises. It basically serves as a workstation OS. This is the OS I want, one for use as a normal office work tool.
I use the solution on my personal PC and also in my organization for its purposes of laptop billing.
Everybody's PC runs on Windows 10. We are talking about more than 500 users.
I would definitely recommend the solution to others. It is about the best OS obtainable at present.
As Windows 10 consumes a lot of resources I will rate it as an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.

System Administrator at Finlays
Straightforward to install, easy to integrate and scales well
Pros and Cons
- "When it's new it's very fast."
- "After some time it becomes slower. The performance seems to be affected after a while."
What is our primary use case?
It's very useful. It acts like a terminal for all these things that you do in the office. You can access your shared files. You can do Office 365. You can use it as a client for so many applications. It is an operating system that is used for our company to interact with their cloud base from the on-premise system.
What is most valuable?
The installation is straightforward and the deployment is very fast.
The licensing is okay.
When it's new it's very fast.
The solution is very scalable.
The stability is very good.
The product is very user friendly, and it can integrate with so many other applications
What needs improvement?
After some time it becomes slower. The performance seems to be affected after a while.
While they might already have this, I find that Windows has many workspaces and people just end up using one and ignoring the others. A person ends up opening so many windows and then just looking at one screen. It makes them ignore the others. They need to rework it so that this is less likely to happen. It needs to be a bit more user-friendly.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used the solution for some time - likely since it was introduced. It's been a while.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is good in that there are no bugs or glitches and it doesn't crash
However, the performance seems to get worse with time. It becomes slower and there is a need to refresh.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability of the solution is very good. If a company needs to expand it, it can do so.
We have about 90 users in our organization.
The usage is based on the number of users, and currently, we have no plan to increase our staff. However, f there's a new user, then we just buy a new license.
How are customer service and technical support?
Microsoft technical support is very complicated. We've never actually gone through Microsoft to solve problems. We almost always use the internet. You go to a site, and you look at someone who had a similar problem. I don't actually contact Microsoft on many issues. Therefore, I can't speak to their knowledgeability or responsiveness.
How was the initial setup?
The installation isn't overly difficult or complex. It's pretty straightforward if you understand the underlying concepts.
They have simplified it. It is very easy compared with when we are doing Windows.
The installation itself is very, very quick. It takes ten minutes or so.
Currently, I handle the deployment and maintenance myself.
What about the implementation team?
I handled the installation myself. I did not require the assistance of any integrators or consultants. I've been doing it a while, and therefore I'm comfortable with the process.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The licensing is okay. We normally buy the Pro version, the Business version. We find all features are already incorporated.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I did not evaluate other options before choosing Windows 10.
We normally just use Windows. We only use other operating systems if we are running a system that requires us to use that operating system.
What other advice do I have?
We are using the latest version of the solution. We strive to have the latest updates.
I use the solution myself and within our organization.
I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten.
I'd recommend the solution to other organizations.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Assistant Manager at Shyam Telecom Group
Easy to set up and stable but can slow down your machine
Pros and Cons
- "The stability of the solution is good. it doesn't crash or freeze and there are no bugs or glitches. It's quite reliable."
- "The interface could be more friendly."
What is our primary use case?
I'm using it in my new company. I'm working in ISP right now and I'm using the laptop to connect to my applications. That's all I'm using it for. I'm using just virtualization services on my laptop.
What is most valuable?
The solution is quite stable. The performance is good.
The product has been easy to use and simple to navigate.
The solution has the capability to scale if necessary.
The initial setup is very easy.
What needs improvement?
I found that it slowed down my laptop a bit.
I find that, when we start the laptop, when we shut down and restart the laptop, it will take a bit of time to restart. It will take around one minute to restart in total, which feels like a long time. I need the time to be reduced. After replacing the SSD, it reduced the time a bit, however, it has not reduced the time that much overall.
The interface could be more friendly.
Some security features and some services are automatically getting switched on that is of no use. There should be an option that allows us to customize the services that we want to run or that we don't want to run.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for seven years at this point. I use it on my laptop, and it is pretty old at this point.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability of the solution is good. it doesn't crash or freeze and there are no bugs or glitches. It's quite reliable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution can scale. For what I use it for, it's served its purpose.
I'm not sure how many people actually use the solution, as I am new to the organization. I have it on my laptop and suspect more if not all of the employees do too.
How was the initial setup?
The solution is not difficult or complex to install. It is very straightforward and simple. A company shouldn't have any issues with the setup process.
It only took about 40 minutes to set up and deploy the solution. It's pretty fast.
What about the implementation team?
I installed the solution myself. I did not need the assistance of any integrators or consultants.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I have a home license that costs me around 1,000 rupees.
What other advice do I have?
I'm just a customer and an end-user.
I'm using the solution from my laptop, not from the server.
I'm using the latest version of the solution. I'm constantly updating it.
I'd rate the solution at a seven out of ten, as I found that this particular generation made my laptop run a bit slow.
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.
IT Manager at Ducart
User-friendly with an easy setup and good stability
Pros and Cons
- "The performance, overall, has been excellent."
- "The security should be better on the solution."
What is our primary use case?
The solution is primarily used on all the local PCs in the company. It's also used for file sharing. Everything Windows runs on - the software and everything - runs on this.
What is most valuable?
The stability of the solution is quite good.
The performance, overall, has been excellent.
The product is user-friendly. Everyone finds it very easy to use for the most part.
The initial setup is quite straightforward.
What needs improvement?
The solution isn't overly scalable, from what I have witnessed.
The security should be better on the solution.
Microsoft should work to make the product more flexible than it currently is.
The solution could be a bit expensive.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been dealing with the solution since it first came out. I can't recall the exact number of years. It's been a while.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution has been very stable so far. There are no bugs or glitches that I have seen. It doesn't crash or freeze at all. The performance is reliable. It's good.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I would not describe the solution as scalable.
We've used it since it came onto the market, however, the number of users is always changing. It's hard to describe the exact number of users.
How are customer service and technical support?
I don't recall ever dealing directly with technical support. I can't speak to how helpful or responsive they are overall. I don't have direct contact to go off of.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have some experience with Linux and have used Microsoft servers as well. In our organization, we have used the 2008 and 2016 versions of the server.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is not difficult or overly complex. I found it to be rather straightforward.
How long the deployment takes depends on if it's an upgrade from an older version or if it's upgraded from the hardware. It varies from one to two hours to one to two days. It depends on the hardware.
What about the implementation team?
I handled the implementation completely by myself. For the installation, I did not use an integrator or consultant. It was taken care of in-house without outside assistance required.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We tend to pay for the license yearly and have 3-year agreements with Microsoft.
The solution could always be cheaper. If they lowered the price, it would be ideal for the customer base.
What other advice do I have?
I mostly deal with items from an integrator's angle. I don't typically choose the solutions I deal with. That's decided largely by the client.
I typically deal with the latest version of the solution. I cannot speak to the exact version number.
I'd recommend the solution to other users and organizations.
I would rate the product at an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Senior Security Operation Engineer at a energy/utilities company with 10,001+ employees
Good for business use with good stability and scalability
Pros and Cons
- "The solution is stable and scalable."
- "The solution could be faster and demonstrate better performance. I"
What is our primary use case?
We use Windows 10 for business purposes such as providing email access.
I utilize the solution for very basic needs. I don't use many features, just those for topping up the operating system and Office product applications.
What needs improvement?
The solution could be faster and demonstrate better performance. It is a bit on the slow side.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable in respect to the majority of its security features.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable and we plan to continue to utilize it and to increase its usage.
How are customer service and technical support?
I cannot comment on the technical support.
How was the initial setup?
I did not handle the installation.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I believe the licensing is on an annual subscription basis.
What other advice do I have?
I recommend the solution to others who are contemplating its use.
I rate Windows 10 as an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Enterprise Architect at a real estate/law firm with 1,001-5,000 employees
Stable, easy to install, easy to use, and intuitive
Pros and Cons
- "It works. It is stable, unlike other versions of Windows. It is easy to use and intuitive for the most part."
- "They could really improve or clarify user account types and stuff. I help people with their Microsoft Windows 10 installations and setups. A lot of times, I pre-configure devices for them, and it is a pain to switch the user so that it shows them as the owner when I've done the initial setup. I have found some workarounds for that, but user management on it outside of a domain is somewhat cumbersome. They probably expected that one person is going to be the management and owner of it, and they seem to have built it that way, but third parties like us, who help friends and family with their setups, can sometimes run into some headaches while trying to help people without having our data loaded over to the machine with the synchronization. Microsoft has a tendency to try and put too much into what is supposed to be just an operating system. I would rather have choices and pick what I want to include. They sometimes cram too much in there."
What is our primary use case?
I have my own personal-owned license on my machines at home. I use it for personal usage as well as for work. I use it to run my software, and I also use it for gaming and managing my baseball card trades and stuff like that.
I am on the developer channel, so I am on one version above the release.
What is most valuable?
It works. It is stable, unlike other versions of Windows. It is easy to use and intuitive for the most part.
What needs improvement?

Microsoft has a tendency to try and put too much into what is supposed to be just an operating system. I would rather have choices and pick what I want to include. They sometimes cram too much in there.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Windows 10 since the first beta came out in 2015. It has been a couple of years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable. I didn't have any issues that were directly Windows-related. Usually, it had to do with other games and applications having or causing problems.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
As long as you're on the 64-bit build, it is very easy to scale.
How are customer service and technical support?
I have never called Windows tech support for Windows 10. However, I have dealt with the developer group, but that includes people like myself helping each other in the community. I do interact with their developer team on the bug releases and stuff. I fill out the questionnaires and stuff about bugs that I find. I've dealt with them, but that's not really tech support.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have always used Windows. My previous Windows release was Windows 7. Before that, I had Windows XP. Before that, I had Windows 3.51. It has always been Windows.
Windows is easy to use and intuitive for the most part. I work with Apple devices, but I like being able to have control over my environment. I can have more control with Windows 10 than with others. To be able to use Unix operating system, you have to be an engineer.
How was the initial setup?
It is easy. If you get it new on a machine, you're usually up and running in a few minutes.
What other advice do I have?
I would advise others to go with the Professional version and not the Home version. I would rate Windows 10 a ten out of ten.

Integrates with everything that I am using, gives me everything as a user, and allows me to easily sort apps
Pros and Cons
- "I like the main window pane where you can sort your mostly used and different types of apps, such as OneDrive, Google Chrome, and Access. I can just open up the main window, and those apps are right there at my fingertips. I moved from Windows 7 to Windows 10, and it took me a little while to get used to Windows 10, but once I got used to it, I do like it. It integrates with everything that I am using, and it gives me everything that I need as a user."
- "It takes a lot of hard drive space when you're using it. I also have Windows 10 on my personal computer, and it does take up an awful lot of hard drive space. This is probably something about which nothing can be done, and it is just a pet peeve of mine."
What is our primary use case?
It is on my laptop, and it is given to me as an employee. My Windows did an update last night, so I am sure I have its latest version. I also have it on my personal computer.
What is most valuable?

For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Windows 10 for three years.
How are customer service and technical support?
I have not gone to tech support. I never had a problem.
How was the initial setup?
The setup is easy. There are always patches that go out. I've been selling Office 365 to customers, and there are always patches. That's just the way Microsoft does things, but the one positive thing is that when things are recognized, patches do get done fairly fast, and then they're sent out. In my official case, they're sent out to my IT department. In my personal case, the patches are done automatically.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Windows 10 an eight out of ten.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Previous to this solution, it is my understanding that we used Windows 8.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is not difficult or overly complex. It's very simple and quite straightforward. A company shouldn't have any issues with the implementation process.
The deployment is very fast and only takes about 15 minutes or so.
Since this product is for end-user computing, we have a separate team of four administrators that deal directly with the implementation and maintenance of the solution.
What about the implementation team?
I was able to handle the implementation on my own. It didn't require assistance. We didn't hire any outside consultants or integrators for the setup.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We pay for our licensing on a yearly basis. I can't speak to the exact amount, however.
