What is our primary use case?
We are partners with Trellix Move Antivirus and we have sold it previously. That particular bundle has changed as Trellix has moved to Complete Protection and the DLP comes under another bundle.
We are partners of Trellix, but we do not work with Trellix ESM or Embedded Control. We have worked with Trellix Mail Security when it was McAfee, including SIEM and email security solutions. After Trellix acquired it, we renewed the same product but faced major issues, especially for email security, in addressing spam mails and email DLP.
We work with Barracuda Backup. In recent months, we have sold Trellix DLP and showcased a product for network detection and response with Helix. We have positioned the product but are yet to get the order.
We have dealt with Barracuda Backup for seven to eight years. We handle Barracuda Backup, Barracuda Storage, Barracuda Email Security, and we are currently working with vulnerability protection.
Barracuda Backup is mainly used for on-premises backup. We recommend Barracuda with storage for on-premise backup. Apart from backup, our main focus with Barracuda is email security because most customers have O365. Barracuda email security works seamlessly with O365, and we have been able to achieve many use cases that other competitive products such as Micro, Fortinet, Trellix, or Forcepoint could not accomplish.
What is most valuable?
Barracuda Backup is primarily used for on-premises backup, and we recommend it with storage for on-premise backup. Apart from backup, our main focus with Barracuda is email security because most customers have O365. Barracuda email security works effectively with O365, and we have been able to achieve many use cases that other competitive products such as Micro, Fortinet, Trellix, or Forcepoint could not accomplish.
One particularly valuable feature of Barracuda Backup is the restoration time. It is very fast when compared to other solutions such as Veritas or Acronis.
What needs improvement?
The product needs improvement to become better. For example, we attempted to integrate with Postgres SQL server to backup the database alone, which was not supported. For this reason, we required a separate solution for database backups. While other SQL servers are supported, Barracuda Backup has limitations with database backups.
The main area for improvement is integration and support for databases.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been dealing with Barracuda Backup for six to seven years.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
Barracuda Backup is not complex and is easy to install. We have not faced any issues with implementation because we have trained engineers to handle this. I was previously certified in Barracuda. In virtual appliances, we faced some minor issues in one or two cases, but these were not significant problems.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
When using the VM model, we have better scalability. Instead of choosing an appliance, opting for a virtual appliance model provides easier scalability without requiring much licensing or configuration work.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support from Barracuda is good, deserving a rating of seven out of ten. They provide good support overall. However, sometimes the engineers allocated to our cases appear to be inexperienced as they ask about basic queries we have already tested.
Since we handle L1 and L2 support, we only reach TAC in rare cases. During these times, if they request L1 level logs, it becomes frustrating for the end user who sees multiple requests for the same logs.

We worked with Trellix Mail Security when it was McAfee, including SIEM and email security solutions. After Trellix acquired it, we renewed the same product but faced major issues with email security. We encountered problems addressing spam mails and implementing email DLP. Writing policies for email attachments with size restrictions and approval options was not working efficiently, which led to our migration from Trellix to Barracuda.
How was the initial setup?
Barracuda Backup is not complex and is easy to install. We have not faced any issues with implementation because we have trained engineers to handle this. I was previously certified in Barracuda. In virtual appliances, we faced some minor issues in one or two cases, but these were not significant problems.
What about the implementation team?
We are not just a reseller; we sell Barracuda Backup and provide support at L1 and L2 levels.
What other advice do I have?
When considering cloud backup solutions, such as AWS cloud, there can be latency issues while restoring data. Cloud offerings also incur additional charges from the cloud vendor.
Every product nowadays provides automation and backup flow. This is beneficial, but it is not unique to Barracuda as I have experienced many other solutions with similar capabilities.
For enterprises, Barracuda Backup is affordable, but for SMBs, it is somewhat expensive.
