A solution for load balancing and WAF but lacks support

What is most valuable?

The load balancing part is good.

What needs improvement?

The support provided is not satisfactory. Compared to other products, the WAF part is costly. There is no innovation in WAF. The solution lacks maturity. They should enhance their cloud capabilities, LB, and develop a more efficient cloud-based WAF.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Citrix as a customer for six years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We cater the solution to medium and large businesses.

How are customer service and support?

When you call their support number, customer service takes longer than usual when you call their support number, especially during or after working hours. Sometimes, if you call them after working hours in the evening, it might take around 30-45 minutes to connect you with an engineer, so there is a waiting time. The existing engineers seem less experienced than those five years ago. They often ask us to involve other support vendors and take significant time to troubleshoot the issue.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy and takes a few minutes to complete. Once you get the product properly, everything is installed in it. The upgrade is very smooth.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Compared to other products, WAF is more costlier than LB, but in Citrix, LB is more expensive than WAF. We have a yearly subscription. You may get a discount if you go for three years. There is an additional cost for support, and the license covers only VM.

What other advice do I have?

The solution’s maintenance is easy. One person is enough to maintain the solution.

Citrix is a good solution for basic load balancing. It may require highly skilled resources to manage it effectively. It should be scalable on the cloud. With the increasing shift towards the cloud, cloud capabilities could be enhanced. There could be an improvement in the WAF part and cloud services optimization. Overall, it is a good product.

Overall, I rate the solution a six out of ten.

Very flexible configuration; useful for logging features and combinations
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution has very flexible configuration."
  • "I like the very flexible configuration of Citrix; it's very useful for our regulations where we are able to log features and combinations, and it offers a greater variety of features than any other gateway."
  • "The solution has unnecessary limitations."
  • "Citrix Gateway has a lot of limitations, cloud limitations as a starting point."

What is our primary use case?

I'm the general manager and CEO of the company.

What is most valuable?

I like the very flexible configuration of Citrix. It's very useful for our regulations where we are able to log features and combinations. It offers a greater variety of features than any other gateway.

What needs improvement?

Citrix Gateway has a lot of limitations, cloud limitations as a starting point. Microsoft should combine together and solve those problems. I can't go more than three GBDs whereas on AWS I can go to five GBD and get throughput. Here I'm not able to get into throughput, so I have to deploy multiple gateways to get to throughput and that's a bigger problem.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for 10 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable and they are currently upgrading. We identified two bugs that have now been fixed.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable and we have one or two people responsible for maintenance.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very straightforward. If it's a complex configuration, deployment might take one week, otherwise it should just be a day or two.

What other advice do I have?

I highly recommend this product for any type of organization.

I rate this solution a 10 out of 10.

Citrix Gateway is stable and we have not experienced any issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
