Smooth, easy to use, and reliable
Pros and Cons
  • "I didn't have any hiccups or issues with it."
  • "Sometimes the input-output has issues."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for our virtual machines. We use it to access development environments.

What is most valuable?

It's pretty smooth. I didn't have any hiccups or issues with it. The solution is stable. It is easy to use.

It does basically what it is meant for.

What needs improvement?

Sometimes the input-output has issues. Maybe it's not as seamless when you plug in audio. It takes some time to reflect that into Citrix and basically to allow Citrix to use those audiences and put out devices.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's a stable product. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.

We have not seen any outages or anything as such.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I'm not sure how many people are using the solution in our organization. It's at least 2,000 to 3,000. It's well less than 10,000.

I'm not aware as to if the solution itself is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

I've never dealt with technical support. I can't speak to how helpful or responsive they are.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I've not used any other tools to connect to any other virtual machines. I cannot compare it with another tool.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I'm not sure about the pricing. As an end-user, it's not an aspect I can handle.

What other advice do I have?

I'm basically a user and not from a technical side. We've been using Citrix Database for all the automation systems scattered across most of the organizations for accessing development.

I'm not sure which version of the solution we're using.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.

As a user, I can recommend the solution. However, from technical insights, like what are the other options available in the market or how does it cost and how effective the support is, I can't speak to how the solution is.

That said, Citrix is quite a big draw. The tool has been used by many organizations. Definitely, it will be a good choice to check out.

Citrix Gateway facititates remote access infrastructure to provide single sign-on across all applications in a data center, cloud. Easy-to-use product with data security features
Pros and Cons
  • "Citrix primarily provides secure connectivity. If you need secure remote desktop functionality, it is a viable option."
  • "There could be a faster connection, increased user-friendliness, and more comprehensive dashboards for the platform."

What is most valuable?

The product is easy to use. I enter my user ID and password and start working.

What needs improvement?

There could be a faster connection, increased user-friendliness, and users connection/sign-in history. Although it is easy to use, it could benefit from being more intuitive.

I would appreciate a more user-friendly installation process and the inclusion of helpful tips for first-time users.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Citrix intermittently for approximately two to four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of Citrix is satisfactory. I would rate it eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I am unsure of the exact number of users, but the platform is widely used and likely has millions of users.

How are customer service and support?

I have not had to log a ticket. The network team typically resolves any issues that arise.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

OpenVPN is a suitable choice for technical users; however, for general users, Citrix is a more advantageous option, though it is more costly.

How was the initial setup?

The deployment takes two to three minutes to complete.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Citrix is quite expensive. At the enterprise level, they offer a yearly subscription.

What other advice do I have?

Citrix primarily provides secure connectivity. If you need secure remote desktop functionality, it is a viable option.

It secures data when working remotely, ensuring it is protected from unauthorized access or tampering.

I rate it an eight out of ten.

Reliable, simple to set up, and offers good ICA proxy access
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is scalable."
  • "It would be nice if they offered easier setups and implementation wizards."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for secure remote access and endpoint evaluation, and basically, that's it

What is most valuable?

The remote access, the ICA proxy access, is the most valuable aspect of the product.

It offers an easy initial setup.

The solution is scalable.

It's stable.

What needs improvement?

The solution could always be cheaper.

It would be nice if they offered easier setups and implementation wizards.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for a long time. It's been about ten years or so.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable and reliable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution can scale very well. That's not an issue at all.

The number of users depends on the customer. We have some customers that have 15 to 100 users. Others have up to 3,000 users. It all depends.

How are customer service and support?

For the deployment, we generally don't need technical support. We do need technical support for issues, and that's it.

How was the initial setup?

The solution is very easy to set up. It's straightforward. it's not complex at all.

What about the implementation team?

I work as an integrator, so I can set up the solution easily. I work as an integrator or a consultant for several customers. However, you can do it in-house.

That said, normally customers contract a consultant to do the deployment, and sometimes it's integrated within a broader Citrix solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There are many licensing options. Some clients prefer to pay monthly. Others pay outright and then just pay for support. Others pay for an annual license.

I'd rate the solution three out of five in terms of affordability.

What other advice do I have?

We use both cloud and on-premises deployments.

We're using the latest version of the solution.

It does what it's meant to do. It's a very stable solution. It's very easy to upgrade from a single gateway to other features that are present on the same platform, like the application firewall, and the IP reputation is really valuable if you want to protect your environment.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Simple to install, plenty of online documentation, but slow VPN
Pros and Cons
  • "Citrix Gateway is stable once I am connected."
  • "Citrix Gateway could improve the speed of the VPN. I sometimes have to wait for 10 to 15 minutes to get connected and other times when I am connected I have to abort, and reconnect."

What is our primary use case?

I use Citrix Gateway mostly for communication with my other networks because I'm connecting through public domains. If I am not connected to the network of my company, I won't be able to get access to any of my services or check the connectivity to the other locations.

What needs improvement?

Citrix Gateway could improve the speed of the VPN. I sometimes have to wait for 10 to 15 minutes to get connected and other times when I am connected I have to abort, and reconnect.

In a future release of the solution, they should improve the performance of the VPN and overall ease of use.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Citrix Gateway for approximately one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Citrix Gateway is stable once I am connected.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Citrix Gateway is scalable, you only need to have the correct license to have it scale.

We have approximately 400 to 500 people using this solution in my organization.

How are customer service and support?

I have not needed support from Citrix Gateway because all the information is easily retrieved from the internet using the Google search engine.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I use Fortinet VPN and it is better compared to  Citrix Gateway's VPN.

How was the initial setup?

The setup of Citrix Gateway is easy. It took me approximately one day for the implementation including testing.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There is a license to use Citrix Gateway and it is less expensive to use when compared to other solutions.

What other advice do I have?

I would not recommend Citrix Gateway because there are better solutions available, such as Fortinet FortiClient.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

  • "As an organization, our initiative is to move to the cloud, Citrix Gateway needs to improve its cloud capabilities and make the cloud solution more robust."

What is our primary use case?

I use Citrix Gateway daily. We are expanding the usage all the time.

The solution is for external users who want to get into the office network. We provide external access to external users so they can access the application.

How has it helped my organization?

During the pandemic, many people were unable to go to the office. Citrix Gateway enabled them to work from home and access the office network.

What is most valuable?

Providing our organization the ability to work remotely was the most valuable feature of Citrix Gateway. I also enjoy that they are always adding features.

What needs improvement?

As an organization, our initiative is to move to the cloud, Citrix Gateway needs to improve its cloud capabilities and make the cloud solution more robust.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Citrix Gateway for six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a stable solution. Our company uses Citrix because it is stable, and it is the primary product for virtualization.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Citrix Gateway is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

My experience with Citrix support has been good. I would rate them a four out of five.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Citrix Gateway is complex. I would rate the setup complexity a four out of five.

Deploying only takes one to two hours, but depending on the design, it can take longer. We need to get a lot of configuration details from the firewall and network team, which is time-consuming. The solution requires two people to deploy and maintain, however it is part of the whole Citrix package.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented the solution in-house.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Citrix Gateway an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Always available, deployed through a suggested consultant, with great technical support
Pros and Cons
  • "We have users in a remote environment that might require to access the service."
  • "When it comes to the VDA environment, making it additionally stable is important."

What is our primary use case?

We are using Citrix Gateway for load balancing, remote access and security/safety.

How has it helped my organization?

The gateway help us to monitor the remote access and load balancing. We manage end users services through the gateway as well.

What is most valuable?

We have users in a remote environment, home or branch offices that require access. So to enable the service to the end users, they should come through the gateway. It is advised also by Citrix to do that. So that is the reason we have the Gateway.

What needs improvement?

Sometimes the common issue that we face is service instability. For unknown reason it fails. However, we resolve the issue immediately through the management interface. When it comes to the VDA environment, working on the minor issue we encounter is important.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Citrix Gateway for the past 3 year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Citrix Gateway is stable at this point.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is very good for our needs.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

How was the initial setup?

Citrix Gateway is complex. Citrix Gateway requires hardware resources. You need first to deploy properly your network environment. You have to properly deploy your hardware environment after that you can deploy the Gateway. This might affect the quick deployment of the Citrix Gateway. Hence, the deployment have dependency, it needs proper strategy and planning.

What about the implementation team?

You need to have a consultant. We were advised to have a consultant for the deployment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is expensive and requires proper planning with strategy.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Citrix Gateway a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Low maintenance, multiple pricing options, and easily scalable
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is scalable and can go from a very small deployment to handling 10,000 transactions a second."
  • "The initial setup is not straightforward."

What is our primary use case?

The primary use case of this solution is to provide remote access to our users in finance, healthcare, media, and manufacturing.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of this solution are The Citrix Virtual Apps, the Desktops, all the NetScaler components, and ShareFile.

What needs improvement?

The WAF needs to be improved because it doesn't work well. A lot of work needs to be done on the web application firewall component for Citrix WAF, W-A-F. The setup can be simplified to help improve deployment.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for 20 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable and can go from a very small deployment to handling 10,000 transactions a second.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not straightforward. Training is required and you do need to be certified before deployment. I suppose if you read lots of manuals and documentation, you could get it up and running, but it does help if you've had the training.

The deployment took us about one week. There were lots of firewall rules that had to be followed, along with set-up configurations that had to be completed.

What about the implementation team?

The deployment was completed in-house.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There are two or three different models, but you can actually have a CapEx where you purchase the unit outright and then there's a yearly maintenance cost on top for years two and three, and four, or you can actually do a subscription purchase through Citrix cloud and you pay on a monthly basis, or you can have a three-year subscription contract as well. I give the solution a six out of ten for its cost. The solution is not cheap but it's not overly expensive.

What other advice do I have?

I give the solution nine out of ten.

We currently have 35 people using the solution.

We require one employee for maintenance.

I recommend the solution to others.

Our company is a consultant for the vendor.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
