Reliable connection with no interruptions and scalable for our use case
Pros and Cons
- "For our use case, it was scalable. There were at least 25 end users using this solution from remote locations. And once the connection was established, there weren't any complaints."
- "The initial connection could be faster. That handshake takes a few seconds sometimes. That could be better and improved upon."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
Compared to other VPNs, I didn't find much difference. It used to take a few seconds to connect, but once it was connected, it was reliable with no interruptions. That's the good thing about it.
What needs improvement?
The initial connection could be faster. That handshake takes a few seconds sometimes. That could be better and improved upon.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using Citrix Gateway for about three months now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I would rate the stability a seven out of ten because of the flow and in establishing the connection. There is room for improvement here.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
For our use case, it was scalable. There were at least 25 end users using this solution from remote locations. And once the connection was established, there weren't any complaints.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I used the Cisco VPN a long time ago.
What about the implementation team?
The setup was done by the client-side IT team. They did the remote login and set it up completely on my laptop. It was done in-house. No external consultants were involved.
What was our ROI?
It's quite secure, and it gets the job done.
What other advice do I have?
I would definitely recommend it. The only thing is why the initial connection was slow. Either the infra team or the Citrix team can figure it out, that could be really helpful. But I have no clue.
Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten.

An easy-to-use and easy-to-deploy solution that is scalable
Pros and Cons
- "It's easy to use. Also, the deployment part is perfect."
- "If there is an increase in the customer infrastructure, it is not stable."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
It's easy to use. Also, the deployment part is perfect.
What needs improvement?
If there is an increase in the customer infrastructure, it is not stable. So in our perspective, I mean, eventually, there's nothing to be improved, but depending on the system, some stability might be needed.
Improvement-wise, the solution should hire a support team and help them manage to serve different time zones and regions.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have experience and have been selling Citrix Gateway for a few years. Also, I am a reseller.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is a stable solution. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is a scalable solution.
How are customer service and support?
Though the support has been professional, since we have been in Egypt, the time difference could be a reason affecting its functioning.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was very easy. It takes around two weeks to deploy.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
There is a need to make yearly payments for licensing purposes. Also, it is not an expensive one.
What other advice do I have?
I would definitely recommend the solution to those planning to use it.
I rate the overall tool a ten out of ten.

General Manager & founder at a engineering company with 11-50 employees
Low maintenance, multiple pricing options, and easily scalable
Pros and Cons
- "The solution is scalable and can go from a very small deployment to handling 10,000 transactions a second."
- "The solution is scalable and can go from a very small deployment to handling 10,000 transactions a second."
- "The initial setup is not straightforward."
- "The WAF needs to be improved because it doesn't work well."
What is our primary use case?
The primary use case of this solution is to provide remote access to our users in finance, healthcare, media, and manufacturing.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features of this solution are The Citrix Virtual Apps, the Desktops, all the NetScaler components, and ShareFile.
What needs improvement?
The WAF needs to be improved because it doesn't work well. A lot of work needs to be done on the web application firewall component for Citrix WAF, W-A-F. The setup can be simplified to help improve deployment.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution for 20 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable and can go from a very small deployment to handling 10,000 transactions a second.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is not straightforward. Training is required and you do need to be certified before deployment. I suppose if you read lots of manuals and documentation, you could get it up and running, but it does help if you've had the training.
The deployment took us about one week. There were lots of firewall rules that had to be followed, along with set-up configurations that had to be completed.
What about the implementation team?
The deployment was completed in-house.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
There are two or three different models, but you can actually have a CapEx where you purchase the unit outright and then there's a yearly maintenance cost on top for years two and three, and four, or you can actually do a subscription purchase through Citrix cloud and you pay on a monthly basis, or you can have a three-year subscription contract as well. I give the solution a six out of ten for its cost. The solution is not cheap but it's not overly expensive.
What other advice do I have?
I give the solution nine out of ten.
We currently have 35 people using the solution.
We require one employee for maintenance.
I recommend the solution to others.

Performs well, but technical support needs improvement
Pros and Cons

- "Technical support could be improved."
- "Technical support could be improved."
What is our primary use case?
We use it to consolidate remote access to provide single sign-on across all of the applications.
What is most valuable?
It performs quite well.
What needs improvement?
Technical support could be improved.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using Citrix Gateway for about four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable, and we have had no issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is scalable.
How are customer service and support?
There are some delays in getting support. They eventually come through and get it sorted though, especially if you know the right channels to go through.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward based on your skill level. That is, if you're not familiar with Citrix, it won't be straightforward. If you are, it will be straightforward.
The actual deployment took two to four weeks.

A stable solution, but comes with a complex setup and unresponsive tech support
Pros and Cons
- "The solution is stable."
- "However, Citrix Gateway gives one a better picture of place."
- "As Citrix Gateway is a third party solution, we wish to have one which is more integrated and involves less administration."
- "Tech support is not that great. Whenever an issue arises, it takes them time to respond and they do so via email."
What needs improvement?
As Citrix Gateway is a third party solution, we wish to have one which is more integrated and involves less administration. We want one which would allow access with a single click and only require RDP and the clicking of a single icon.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable.
How are customer service and technical support?
Tech support is not that great. Whenever an issue arises, it takes them time to respond and they do so via email. This is something we do not like.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is not straightforward at all. I feel it to be complex and unclear.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
The reason we were comparing Citrix Gateway to other solutions is to ensure that a VPN can be used on a desktop, for third-party security reasons.
We don't want a situation in which a person can connect to his desktop, but is forced to use our environment using Citrix Gateway. There is no need to use the solution if one wishes to utilize Cisco VPN for connecting to Azure via VDI or to remote the RDP into it. However, Citrix Gateway gives one a better picture of place. Its administration is a bit better and it makes the creation of videos easier and faster once it's set up.
My advice to others who are contemplating using the solution is that going with Cisco is preferable, even though Citrix Gateway is a good product.
What other advice do I have?
Automation is important. At the moment, I am testing for ease of administration and, with the risk that ransomeware poses, for security.
I rate Citrix Gateway as a six out of ten.

VDI Technology Specialist at Faysal Bank Ltd
Is easy to install, stable, and scalable
Pros and Cons
- "It is easy to set up and is stable. It is scalable as well, depending on the model."
- "It is easy to set up and is stable, and it is scalable as well, depending on the model."
- "Their VAS product should be more productive because right now, we are using other VAS solutions but not using this one."
- "Security enhancements could be made, and technical support could be improved."
What is our primary use case?
In our environment right now, we are using NetScaler. We purchased two devices last year for our Citrix VDI environment, for load balancing and gateway features for VPN connectivity.
What is most valuable?
It is easy to set up and is stable. It is scalable as well, depending on the model.
What needs improvement?
Security enhancements could be made, and technical support could be improved.
Their VAS product should be more productive because right now, we are using other VAS solutions but not using this one.
Right now, the multi-factor authentication solution built-in with the product works, but it actually uses Google Authenticator, a third-party authenticator. I would like Citrix to launch their own authenticator-based software so that it will be more secure. It will be more personalized according to the requirements too.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been working with Citrix Gateway for around two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The product has been stable so far.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is scalable depending on the model you have. We have about 5,000 plus users in our company.
How are customer service and technical support?
Technical support is quite good. Improvement is needed on the technical side, response time, and technical engineer support.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was very easy.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price could be lower.
What other advice do I have?
On a scale from one to ten, I would rate Citrix Gateway at nine.

Owner at NovoLux Networks
Great performance, extremely stable, and scalable
Pros and Cons
- "Just creating that gateway to the storefront for Citrix is the most valuable aspect of the solution for us."
- "They have the highest performing application on the planet, as far as I know."
- "It's extremely complicated and it's not intuitive. The solution requires a lot of training to get going on it."
- "It's extremely complicated and it's not intuitive."
What is our primary use case?
Our biggest, most consistent problem was renewing certificates. Otherwise, it works like it isn't even there. It's just a workhorse.
What is most valuable?
I'm pretty well settled on Citrix. They have the highest performing application on the planet, as far as I know.
Just creating that gateway to the storefront for Citrix is the most valuable aspect of the solution for us.
What needs improvement?
It's extremely complicated and it's not intuitive. The solution requires a lot of training to get going on it. I'm not sure that that's necessarily a critique on it. It may be more of a critique on me and my abilities with it, however, it isn't necessarily straightforward. It could stand for some improvement in that sense.
If there were wizards for standard deployments, that might be nice. If there were prompts for situations like trying to deploy one virtual server behind one virtual storefront where the how-to was explained, that would be great. Other than that, you have to get really deep in the gears and figure out which gear you need to move and what lever you've got to pull. It's complex.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used the solution as recently as three to six months ago. I have been using the solution off and on in one shape or form for probably eight years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is rock solid. The only problem I ever had with stability on any consistent basis was replacing certificates on a yearly or semi-yearly basis. Otherwise, it is great and extremely reliable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution has a great ability to scale. That's not a problem at all on the solution.
How are customer service and technical support?
Their help desk is reasonably good. However, without wizards, I can spend two hours on a technical support call just trying to figure out how to set something up. That's not a slight on their level of service; however, if the solution made a few design tweaks, it would mean I could spend less time calling them for assistance.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was complex; it was not straightforward.
The deployment takes about one to two hours.
It's a very feature-rich device. You have to dial into the specifics of what you want to use. It's like a Swiss army knife. It's got a thousand different uses and you only have one or two that you want to use it for. You have figure out just how to set up for those one or two uses.
What other advice do I have?
I have a good deal of experience with Citrix. They're sitting on top of the heap as far as I can tell. It's not just clout and name recognition, but the actual product and actual performance delivery are stellar. They've got it set far as I know.
We're using the latest version of the solution.
I'd rate the solution a solid nine out of ten. It's a pain to set up, however, once you've got that sorted, it's an extremely solid product.
