Process capabilities impress while user setup requires streamlining
I stopped using ADONIS because it is not capable of integrating and automating business processes for the POC. I see that Camunda is more capable for our POC project to orchestrate business processes. We also plan to integrate with UiPath because currently, we are focusing on task automations, not process orchestrations. In the future, we plan to implement process orchestrations. I see that Camunda can integrate UiPath into the process, process model, and process integrations. ADONIS needs improvement mainly in user-friendliness, setup, and installations. As an administrator at that time, I found it quite difficult to manage users because I needed to open specific software, possibly Java-based, which is not web-based and should be installed first to manage the users.

Automation platforms streamline processes and offer flexibility, but AI integration and version upgrades pose challenges
In the technology world, there is always room for improvement. Technologies evolve day by day, especially with the emergence of artificial intelligence and generative AI models. Although IBM BPM is a substantial product, adopting and integrating new technologies quickly is not easy due to the migration and upgrade paths involved. Every time new versions are released, we face business and production challenges that make rapid adoption challenging. The main concern bothering me today regarding IBM BPM is the integration of AI components.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"This is a good solution for consulting firms and universities and is one of the best systems for analytics of business processes."
"We haven't ever needed to take service breaks and we can scale it throughout our company without any problem."
"ADONIS supports the project hierarchy and allows collaboration through methodological reviews and comments, enhancing decision-making."
"It seems that the process mapping and modeling features are well and thoroughly covered."
"It's a very complete solution and user-friendly."
"It's easy to handle the solution thanks to being drag and drop"
"The process modeling interface of ADONIS is very comprehensive, being more complete than Camunda in terms of process documentation and process components such as risks, KPI, and other process components, making it excellent for process documentation, compliance, and repository."
"The best features of the system include good analytics for business processes including the calculation of time and cost."
"I would say that I like its GUI designer the best."
"Using it, I have created elegant, user-friendly, and performant end-user graphical interfaces that allow end users to complete their tasks in the most enjoyable and easy way."
"Previously, our company's business automation process was slow. IBM BPM's schedule and response functionalities are excellent...There are countless use cases in which IBM BPM proves to be a valuable tool for my clients."
"It's a solid product. It covers most of the pain points for clients."
"It is quite a scalable product, as on one of our projects we are running something like 50,000 processes a day and are able to actually handle that efficiently without a lot of hassle."
"It has brought huge benefits to our organization."
"There is a component of this BPM pool - I can't recall the name. What it does is, it allows you to create various scenarios and then run them quickly, before actually putting them onto a tool. So I think that part of the tool is really fantastic, because that enables you to create scenarios, create simulations, before actually going out and putting it into the tool itself"
"It is efficient in reducing costs."

Cons

"The solution is in English and we have added certain parts in Russian as this is easier for our students. It would be useful to have the system in Russian."
"Rearranging things to get information from the objects and the model together to get a report out of them could be done better."
"We have to use a different solution to automate our business processes."
"If there's no WiFi connection, you can't access ADONIS."
"ADONIS needs improvement in its user interface functionality."
"ADONIS needs improvement mainly in user-friendliness, setup, and installations. As an administrator at that time, I found it quite difficult to manage users because I needed to open specific software, possibly Java-based, which is not web-based and should be installed first to manage the users."
"This solution would be improved if 24/7 support were available."
"There is a function to check if the model BPMN is being used correctly, but the report from the check is not always very clear."
"Process Server is no more available than new products out there, but in general IBM has a high cost and complex setup."
"It might not be suitable for entry level clients because it comes with a huge number of modules for processing that at times might not be necessary for upcoming clients."
"Although IBM BPM is a low-code or no-code software, if you want to have extremely complex workflows, just the business process diagrams are not helpful in creating those workflows."
"The response time needs to be better. Every time when you click a link or a button or something, the response could be faster - although, I know it also depends on the network connectivity."
"The initial setup can be tricky because IBM BPM is not based on a popular stack, and it's difficult to hire a developer for this product."
"We need to make changes quickly, and sometimes the IBM team is very slow with the product evolution or changes to the tool."
"IBM BPM needs to have a better and modified interface."
"The constant switch between Eclipse and its web versions can be annoying and confusing."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product’s price is quite competitive."
"The product's pricing is medium, so I rate it a five out of ten."
"IBM could improve the price. It is far too expensive."
"Our customers do see ROI. They'll identify some particularly painful or uncoordinated processes to start with, then build out from there, picking off low hanging fruit."
"It should provide more flexibility to connect with external systems, and there should be in-built services that can be used to integrate with other systems quickly."
"We chose to purchase IBM BPM because it was bundled with the actual RPA program/solution that we decided to purchase. We decided to use Automation Anywhere tool (RPA), and it is was bundled with IBM BPM."
"We have definitely seen ROI. When we first kicked it off, we said it had to pay for itself within three years, and it did."
"I rate the tool's pricing a seven out of ten."
"I wish it was less expensive. I don't know why their pricing model is so high for a piece of software that could benefit so many. It just seems to me that they could have a lower cost, maybe with fewer features or whatever, but it should be possible to do a lower cost workflow software that uses the same interface and underlying engine but does not cost so much that you have to be a Fortune 50 company to buy it. It is annoying to me. There are a lot of solutions that IBM has that are really powerful but nobody can afford them. They know their business, but I still feel that there are a lot of customers who would benefit from this sort of thing. I don't know what this elitism is all about. I am sure they have people doing the money numbers, but it seems like you can make a lot more money by selling it to way more people for a little bit less."
"The cloud and license of the subscription model for IBM BPM can be complex. There are a lot of alternatives to choose from."
