The support of this solution is great. The timeliness of their responses is crucial for me. When I raise an issue, I can count on receiving a prompt reply, eliminating the need for extensive online searches or phone calls. This efficiency is paramount in saving time. In the rare instances where problems arise, they are usually swiftly addressed.

We manage complex networks with seamless guest and user access while ensuring device authorization
I use enterprise connections where users need to be authorized against radius servers. This feature is common across various products, including ExtremeWireless. Generally, the network management is valuable to me. However, I am unsure how the security architecture enhances our network protection as we typically use the latest firmware for access points. Nonetheless, we had some troubles with roaming, requiring me to install specific firmware to avoid issues.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We can manage all of the access points and policies from a single pane of glass."
"The features aren't much different than those in Aruba, but deployment is easier to configure and the pricing is better."
"We needed a solution to provide internet access for the majority of 317,68 KM square site and assure authentication, authorization and accountability compliance of users, and OmniAccess has enabled us to do so."
"The initial setup is pretty straightforward."
"We deployed them in two hospitals, they benefit from the access of users via Guest Portal and the use of VoWLAN Phones for mobile internal communication."
"Configuring Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess Stellar is easier than Aruba HPE."
"The solution allows you to see the SNMP packets, the DPI packets, and the SNMP server."
"With the Captive portal to manage the Guest access is very easy, and with the Spectrum Analysis some very difficult radio issues can be solved with very little effort from my side."
"Stability is 100% because we have never had an experience with faulty hardware."
"The customer service and support provided by Extreme are excellent."
"The security is very good."
"The solution is easy to use and manage. Overall it is very simple to understand and users do not know it is a cloud solution."
"ExtremeWireless has good performance."
"ExtremeWireless is very reliable and stable; we didn't have any problems throughout the year."
"The initial setup process is simple."
"The stability is 100%, which is why I chose them."

Cons

"It needs to be faster in order to process and transmit bigger packets."
"If the customers plan to go on the cloud side, they need encryption and daily communications from a security perspective."
"Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess Stellar's radio management side could be improved."
"Better integration with third-party systems is what our customers are expecting in the future."
"I would prefer to have the integrated heat map feature provided by the basic controller in the Solution instead of purchasing an external one. Accessing this capability directly within the controller's access point would be convenient."
"I’d rate this product as an eight out of 10 because it is not accessible to everyone to take 100% advantage of the product."
"Yes, some issues are related to firmware bugs or firmware instability."
"The current implementation of our Guest Access network in isolation for Express mode is very complicated in comparison with leading market solutions."
"In summary, this is not a product that I recommend."
"The cost of this product is also somewhat on the higher side as compared to the other devices."
"The APs have quite a low signal compared to other brands."
"There is some delay in firmware upgrades for access points. When there is a problem with the firmware of one access point, the correction might be too late."
"The user interface of ExtremeWireless could be better. It is not user-friendly."
"The product must be provided at a cheaper price."
"The cost is a little high."
"The performance of the access points could be improved. ExtremeWireless coverage and signal stability could be enhanced to match the level of Ruckus Wireless and other vendors."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess Stellar is a mid-range solution with respect to pricing."
"It's pricey, but better than similar solutions."
"At times, it appears that the solution's pricing is slightly higher. This makes it challenging to persuade customers who primarily focus on the price."
"The tool is cost-effective, according to our sales team's feedback."
"The price of this product is average and it is a one-time, perpetual license."
"The price is in the range of other brands like Cisco, maybe a little cheaper but you get the same features, facilities, and security. Licensing is something Alcatel is making changes to. A few years ago you would buy a WLAN solution from Alcatel for half the price of Cisco, but you would spend the same amount on licensing. Today this is different and the licensing is cheaper."
"We find the price comparable to other products on the market."
"The purchase of 350 access points cost approximately $250,000 USD."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"I rate the price of Extreme Wireless a three out of five."
"ExtremeWireless isn't budget-friendly. The hardware costs around 20,000 Indian rupees. We're still using an older controller, so it doesn't require a license, unlike the newest versions of the ExtremeWireless controller."
"Extreme isn't the most expensive, but it's not a low-cost solution, and because there are no big volumes, you don't receive significant discounts, making the final price higher."
"We pay approximately $30,000 per year."
"The solution has a yearly subscription, and we have to pay additional costs for technical support."
"ExtremeWireless is subscription-based for both cloud and on-prem solutions, and it's quite expensive."
