Identifies and analyzes performance issues quickly using in-built AI and ML
With Alluvio AppResponse, there is an in-built analytical analysis with AI and ML, which identifies and provides data such as the number of TCP retransmits, web access time, total connection time out, total connections established, and server-side errors. The RTCC response time composition chart is crucial because it helps pinpoint the issue's origin, whether from the server, network, or application side. It's a superb product when compared to SolarWinds SAM, which is agent-based, while Alluvio AppResponse captures all traffic from the core switch.

Better support and more accessible resources are crucial. Customers have expressed that support is not as flexible, and it is difficult to obtain necessary information quickly. Customers would benefit from improved training material for integration with other products. The solution's pricing is high and needs to be reconsidered, and the technical support should improve to provide more accessible and open information.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Each AppResponse implementation made our stability better across our 500+ applications."
"It's a stable product. Riverbed has invested a significant amount of research and development into it, so it's a solid tool overall."
"We require a staff of a small team to maintain the solution, and they can quickly find and troubleshoot problems in the database, transactions, unified communication, etc., because it is a very good tool that is very fast and very informative and gives you an overview where the problem is on the backend server or on the network side so you can then focus more deeply on that."
"Opnet probes (AppResponse Xpert), now part of Riverbed, capture network traffic and calculate automatically many applicative and network KPI."
"I have found the AppResponse, which is a packet capture solution, very good. It gives you the ability to drill down back in time. You've got all the packets there. You can troubleshoot it later, not immediately. It's very interesting."
"AppResponse is a total solution that gives you end-to-end visibility into applications at all levels, from Layer 1 to Layer 7. We can trace all those sections: physical, IP, transport, presentation, application, etc. It gives us the full picture."
"This product helps us to monitor performance of these environments."
"Very easy to use and gather value from the start."
"It’s been very stable, it’s flexible, and it really fits our business needs and business model."
"We managed to convince our client to use CA UIM as it individually ensures monitoring of all the aspects of an application, be it processes, event logs, URLs, ping availability, server response time, log monitoring, database monitoring, clusters, and what not."
"Prior to using this solution, we had three point solutions in place; one for voice infrastructure, one for servers, and one for networks, and this tool meant we were actually able to collapse everything into a single interface which made my team's life easier, but it also meant that our first line staff then just had one view of the customer's entire infrastructure."
"One of the most valuable features would be the out-of-the-box capability; it's extremely capable from day one, not a lot of customization is required in order to implement it within your environment, and I think that's just a huge resource win from a time-measurement perspective."
"It's allowed us to get better coverage with our monitoring and to consolidate all monitoring into one solution."
"The best features are scalability, versatility, infrastructure coverage and ease of implementation."
"Latest version of tool comes integrated with Jaspersoft reporting solution, giving excellent reports."
"With UIM, the one thing I've learned is there's hundreds of ways of doing it and they're all right."

Cons

"The admin dashboard could be easier, as it takes a little bit of time to get used to it."
"Need to bring back the NetFlow module for AppResponse."
"The initial setup is straightforward, but you have to know a little about the product. It's not for everybody to just plug and play. If you know how the solution is implemented then it is straightforward."
"The licenses are costly and are done per module."
"Disks are heavily used for traffic capture and may break times to times but RAID feature avoids any production pause."
"If Alluvio AppResponse reduces its cost, it will be more beneficial for customers to monitor their application and network performance."
"Technical support needs to be more responsive."
"The reporting models need improvement as most of the time, we have to customize the reports manually."
"It was complex, due to the configuration that we already had with another tool, implementing everything again took us longer than planned; it really is a difficult tool to configure, specifically in our infrastructure."
"Open source and acquired components are often bolted on and integrated poorly."
"Technical support was not the best. We could use more."
"It's too modular in the sense that there is not an awareness of things."
"There is also room for improvement in the reporting. It is not really good enough, according to our customers. So what we now usually do is use Power BI to get them the kinds of reports they want."
"We have experienced challenges with finding a mechanism to deploy the agents, but it's only on the first deployment so it's not a big issue."
"We encountered scalability issues in some areas such as bandwidth monitoring."
"Also, the thick client administration tool is archaic, slow, and cumbersome."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing model is expensive compared to its competitors, but the service it gives to your business, and the data quality, means that it's worth it."
"It is costly for small and medium businesses."
"The solution is no more expensive than other products."
"The price is a little bit high, especially because we have to pay an import tax."
"The product-price ratio is better than other brands such as Fortinet or SonicWall."
"CAD $400,000 annually."
"Reasonable setup cost and licensing prices."
"This product is expensive compared to other vendors (SolarWinds, ManageEngine)."
"The license cost depends on the number of probes and robots."
"Pricing for DX Unified Infrastructure Management isn't cheap at all. It's a complex tool, so you have to pay more. No one is happy with a large bill to pay, but if it's a complex product and you designed a complex solution to be monitored, it'll be your fault that you need to buy an expensive product, and that would be implicit in the design of DX Unified Infrastructure Management. Monitoring is just a small part of it. Sometimes you have to pay a significant amount of money for a complex yet very good solution."
