Has simplified ETL workflows with on-demand processing but needs improved cost efficiency and visibility
I have used AWS Glue with S3 for making tables and databases, but regarding Amazon EMR, I do not remember much as we are currently using it very minimally. This is my observation: In EKS, we have had to deploy by ourselves because EKS does not provide the Hadoop framework, Spark, Hive, and everything, but we have completed all the deployment ourselves. Whereas Amazon EMR provides all these things. The cost factor differs significantly. When you run Spark application on EKS, you run at the pod level, so you can control the compute cost. But in Amazon EMR, when you have to run one application, you have to launch the entire EC2. In Qubole, the interface was very good. I could see many details because in Amazon EMR console, very few details are available. In Qubole, at one link, you can get all the details of what is happening, how the processes are running, and the cost decreased by using Qubole. I found Qubole more user-friendly and cost-effective. From the security point of view, we had to open some access rights to Qubole, which might be a drawback in comparison to Amazon EMR which is native to AWS.

Provides self-repair features, but the setup is complex
We use the product for online applications. We use it in the financial industry The product has self-repair features. The tool tunes itself. It separates compute from storage. We can scale storage and compute separately. The setup is complex. Oracle is a complex tool. I have been using Oracle…

"The solution is used for analytics and it works for our data security needs."
"The analytics have been very good. We've found them to be quite useful."
"Self-patching and runs machine-learning across its logs all the time"

Cons

"Modules and strategies should be better handled and notified early in advance."
"Amazon EMR is continuously improving, but maybe something like CI/CD out-of-the-box or integration with Prometheus Grafana."
"The most complicated thing is configuring to the cluster and to ensure it's running correctly."
"The problem for us is it starts very slow."
"It was complex to configure."

"One of the lacking features is good web support."
"I would like to see an on-premise solution in the future."

"The initial setup was pretty complex. It was not easy."
"It is very important the integration with other platforms be made to be as easy as it is with an on-premises deployment."
"An improvement for us would be the inclusion of support for an internal IP, so we could use it directly with the VCN in Oracle Cloud."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I rate the tool's pricing a five out of ten. It can be expensive since it's a managed service, and if you are not careful, you can run into unexpected charges. You can make a mistake that costs you tens of thousands of dollars. That's happened to us twice, so I'm sensitive to it. We're still trying to work on that. Our smallest client probably spends a hundred thousand dollars yearly on licensing, while our largest is well over a million."
"The product is not cheap, but it is not expensive."
"Amazon EMR's price is reasonable."
"You don't need to pay for licensing on a yearly or monthly basis, you only pay for what you use, in terms of underlying instances."
"Amazon EMR is not very expensive."
"There is a small fee for the EMR system, but major cost components are the underlying infrastructure resources which we actually use."
"There is no need to pay extra for third-party software."
"The price of the solution is expensive."
"The licensing cost of the product can vary since you can integrate it very easily with other products or other cloud products...You pay as you use it, so it is not yearly or monthly payments to be made toward Oracle."
"In terms of architecture and pricing structure, I feel it is a little bit costly compared to Azure. It's fine compared to RedShift, but compared to Azure, it's a bit pricey when you calculate for one TB storage plus around five hours of reporting with the frequency of 1TB data. The cost adds up, making Oracle a bit expensive."
"Cloud solutions are cheaper, but in the long run, they may not be much cheaper. They certainly have a lower initial cost. The licensing is yearly, and it is based on the size of the hardware and the number of users."
"The cost is perfect with Oracle Universal credit."
"The price depends on the configuration we choose."
"The solution is expensive."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is a low price and ten is a high price, I rate the pricing an eight."
"Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse's pricing is fair and reasonable compared to the other cloud vendors."
