Centralized device management has transformed security and streamlined remote provisioning
One area where Microsoft Intune can improve is the user interface. Sometimes the portal feels a bit complex and not very intuitive, especially for new users, and it can take time to find specific settings. Another point is troubleshooting. While logs are available, the diagnostic policies and sync issues can still be time-consuming and not very straightforward. I also feel that reporting could be more detailed and customizable. The built-in reports are helpful, but for deeper insights, I often need to rely on additional tools. Overall, it is a strong solution, but improving usability and troubleshooting experience would make it even better. While Microsoft Intune works very well within the Microsoft ecosystem, the integration of some third-party tools could be smoother and require less customization. Support is another area that could improve, as sometimes response times can be slow, and resolving complex issues may take longer than expected. In terms of features, I think more advanced automation and built-in remediation options would be helpful since common issues can be fixed automatically without manual intervention.

Secure web access for guest users has transformed how we protect servers without device agents
Apache Guacamole can be improved as the documentation is really okay. It's written in very good detail. However, there's a problem in that it is written in too much detail and doesn't take you step-by-step. We did have some minor issues, such as there was some gap in mentioning how to install it and how to make and compile the file which they have posted on the repository. We had to figure it out, and once we got that knowledge, we were able to speed up our process. I think that the documentation wasn't that well written. There were gaps in it. It was well written but not written step-by-step. They can improve Apache Guacamole's UI. We didn't use their UI and use our own UI instead, but their UI can be improved. Simple is also good but it can be improved.

Easy to deploy with great security and responsive support
The security on offer is the most valuable aspect of the solution. It offers, for example, two-factor authentification. The remote connection across platforms is great. You can deploy it on anything, including Windows, Mac, iOS, your iPhone, et cetera. It offers multi-platform utility. This makes it great for enterprise. Users can use it for PAM access as well. The feature of Devolutions that has improved our customer's efficiency the most is probably the security side. It's gotten a lot tighter. Authentication and secure connections are helpful. They use encryption between them, which is just standard for them. The company has so many regulatory controls that they must ensure their security is very tight. There's a lot of potential cybercrime around casinos, and this solution ensures they are well-protected. Devolutions is a great product that can be safely used between China, Australia, or the Philippines, and it remains a good, safe product.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"For the price, the features included with Microsoft are appealing."
"This solution saves us a lot of time once it's implemented."
"The automatic patching is the most valuable feature of Intune."
"The most valuable feature is probably mobile device management. Small businesses are coming under greater scrutiny and requirements for compliance as time goes on. We don't have to worry about a VPN because we can manage these devices, control company data, and lock users out. If needed, we can remotely wipe devices and deadman-switch them."
"It supports end-users who tend to lock their devices quite frequently. Its conditional access policy helps us keep the users logged into their devices."
"It provides control over all mobile devices that are being connected to the corporate network."
"Their price is really good, which is the reason customers move here, because as part of the Office 365 package, they always get the E365 as well, which makes it easy for them to manage their devices without having additional licenses for Intune."
"Microsoft Intune positively impacts our organization by reducing licensing costs and data center management."
"I'm using Apache Guacamole as a gateway."
"Apache Guacamole helped us cross that boundary, and leveraging that technology, we were able to expand our product surface area and the customers we can access."
"The main impact Apache Guacamole had on my team's efficiency was that they did not need to access any server or anything else, because instead of performing several clicks to access a machine and needing to know where it was located, its full name, or the IP address, we were able to create groups and folders where machines were all properly organized and easy to access."
"Apache Guacamole has impacted my organization positively by providing us with a cheap alternative that is very customizable, which we can offer to customers that previously we had to decline because they could not afford Citrix."
"For those considering using Apache Guacamole, I wholeheartedly support its users since it's a free open-source software that is easy to download and use with no significant issues."
"One of the advantages is that it helps to simplify and fasten the processes, so the workflow goes much faster."
"Apache Guacamole is really easy to use."
"Apache Guacamole has positively impacted our organization because we are able to give access to Windows instances easily."
"There is not a day that goes by that I do not use the tool."
"I was able to maintain connections to over 400 different servers and services using password best practices."
"Allows us to configure limited access to resources with the security-based role feature (which we use for trainees and new employees)."
"Makes me instantly more focused on resolving the issue rather than getting to the issue."
"With the integrated VPN providers you are able to link the VPN entry directly to the session or entire folders, so you no longer have to configure the VPN manually on the machine."
"By integrating all our connections previously spread across multiple locations, a lot of time has been saved."
"Initial setup was very straightforward."
"With the integrated VPN providers you are able to link the VPN entry directly to the session or entire folders, so you no longer have to configure the VPN manually on the machine."

Cons

"Microsoft Intune can be improved by making it even more seamless for users to download their certificates."
"In an upcoming release, I would like to see some kind of analytics report."
"The way the apps are getting deployed, the checkboxes for deleting previous versions are actually creating more conflicts than fixing problems."
"Regarding mobile devices, Intune is good, but there are other services that I would say are ahead of Intune from an administration and reporting point of view."
"The time we have to wait to deploy policies has room for improvement."
"Intune has no remote control function for mobile phones to solve issues remotely for users."
"Microsoft Intune is not as fast and extensive as traditional solutions such as SCCM and others."
"Installing software in Microsoft Intune can be challenging if it is not already prepackaged."
"I would give Apache Guacamole an eight out of ten because there have been moments where I faced some networking issues with it, where connections were a problem, and sometimes the login and logout processes were issues as well."
"I gave it a nine because some very advanced features such as session recording and clipboard functionality are still not available on Apache Guacamole, though they are available on Citrix."
"I think that the documentation wasn't that well written."
"There should be good documentation regarding GUI customization. Even though I can try customizing the GUI, the documentation is not comprehensive."
"The solution's USB redirection could be improved."
"There should be good documentation regarding GUI customization."
"In my opinion, Apache Guacamole can be improved with USB access, a native client, and enhanced browser access, which would be beneficial."
"There is no customer support for Apache Guacamole."
"Sometimes the manual inventory of some entries hangs, and RDM must be closed via task manager."
"There are always bugs to squash, beyond that, it is really kind of difficult for new users to discover and use many of the features due to the bewildering array of choices and ways to do things."
"The only complaint I have heard is there are too many updates. Each time there is an update (the app prompts to upgrade), it can be time consuming, especially when sometimes there are multiple updates per week."
"The filing system of connections is a little clunky, but is completely functional."
"On complex setups, I actually needed to reach out to support to get it working correctly."
"There are always bugs to squash, beyond that, it is really kind of difficult for new users to discover and use many of the features due to the bewildering array of choices and ways to do things."
"The RDM client (.NET issue, actually) can stall or lock up while it clears communication threads to the server."
"Sometimes when updating, the install window is on top of the prompt to close the application."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"With our standard E5 agreement with Microsoft, there have been no pricing concerns. Introductory professional services, like a fast-track service, were included with our E5 membership, and there have been no additional costs."
"Its price is in the medium range. It is acceptable because you're paying for the features. I am not aware of any additional costs."
"For organizations that are a Microsoft shop, the pricing is compelling."
"Microsoft Intune is moderately priced. There is a monthly license required to use the solution and it is approximately eight dollars per month."
"We are partners, so we receive some discount. However, from the customer's perspective, Microsoft Intune's pricing is competitive with non-Microsoft technology, and the price is good compared to other market competitors."
"Microsoft Intune has been incorporated into our Microsoft E5 licenses."
"Microsoft Intune is available for individual purchase at a low per-device cost."
"The E5 license is expensive."
Information not available
"Setup costs for most people is negligible."
"If you are a Microsoft MVP, VMware vExpert, Cisco Champion, etc., Devolutions offers a free Enterprise License."
"The Free Edition is completely free. You can try also the Enterprise Edition for 30 days for free."
