Integrated code tracking has streamlined our development workflows and supports project visibility
The biggest benefit I see from Bitbucket Server is that it is providing all the features which Git is providing. Bitbucket Server is using Git as a source code main tool, and it has all the features that any source code repository can provide. A plus point is that we can install it on-premises and manage it easily. Using Bitbucket Server helps me easily track my code changes and where they belong, which saves a lot of time and effort. Without Bitbucket Server, it is very difficult to track the code and changes. The integration with Jira helps me personally with project tracking because Bitbucket Server is a source code repository. We have our SDLC lifecycle in Jira. Every change or every feature request is created as a ticket in Jira, and this ticket is linked with Bitbucket Server repository. Any changes to the code linked to that feature will go to the repository, and we can track that this is the code changed by this feature.

A stable solution that can aid its users in maintaining all application developments
Scalability is something I haven't experienced. So, a bigger team in my company looks after the scalability aspect of the solution. Therefore, I will not be the right person to rate it from a scalability perspective. Around 200 users are using Git in my company. I am not the right person to comment on whether the solution's usage rate will increase in the future.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Bitbucket Server integrates well with other products."
"The product’s most valuable features are private repositories and the ability to work as a proxy for implementing CI/CD pipelines."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is server management."
"Bitbucket Server excels as a versioning system, effectively managing branching and code integration."
"I believe it's user-friendly for our developers, and it's effective in terms of traceability for tracking our actions."
"It can efficiently promote code to different environments."
"Its integration with Jenkins pipelines for automating builds and performing various checks enhances its utility."
"In terms of benefits, I feel that many companies are moving to Bitbucket Server since it can be deployed on an on-premises model at a time when everything is being moved to the cloud."
"The most valuable feature of Git is the ease of tracking in time what the snapshot of the code was at a particular moment. The versioning is good."
"Git has a lot of online tutorials and resources available."
"The features I am most impressed by is the automation."
"What I find the most valuable about Git is that it is CLI and GUI-supported. People who do not like using the CLI mode can use the GUI mode."
"Git offers the ability to roll back to the previous version. You can also track all the small changes that you do."
"The setup process is pretty simple."
"Git is easy to manage...It is helpful for me and easy to manage the interface we are using from development to production."
"The most valuable feature of Git is its reliability and user popularity."

Cons

"Currently, the interface could benefit from a more sophisticated code viewing option."
"The UI could be enhanced."
"Some of the capabilities that I am looking for from a command line are not really available."
"The product's initial setup phase is complex."
"The product requires patching and version improvements. Some functions do not work properly when we move from one version to another. We need a technical improvement. Also, communicating with other Atlassian products becomes cumbersome when we move from one version to another. I want Bitbucket Server to include a dashboard similar to Jira's. Atlassian must also develop a tool to scan our complete base for vulnerabilities."
"Bitbucket Server can experience performance issues when pushing a large amount of code. This process may take a considerable amount of time."
"There are absolutely things that could be improved in collaboration features in Bitbucket Server, with respect to people who are not using it every day, such as managers who need to be able to approve things but don't use Bitbucket Server so often."
"If I want to mail someone a master branch, then sometimes it shows some conflict with other codes in the master branch."
"I would like to see an improvement in the way the product owner can review changes."
"The tool is complicated for a beginner. You need to have some training to use it. It is also hard to find a parameter."
"Synchronization could be better. Sometimes when you create a branch and merge it into another branch, I think it's a bit complex for no reason. The initial setup is also tricky when you do it for the first time."
"If the file changes are on the same line, we need to resolve a merge conflict manually. Let's say there is a merge conflict on line 50 because we have multiple commits on the same line number. Git could add some artificial intelligence to resolve the conflict automatically."
"New developers sometimes find it difficult to call a review or create a request."
"Git's user interface could be improved."
"Some challenges arise when Git is not used correctly, particularly in managing branches. It's easy to get lost, but these challenges can be overcome with proper management. A common advice is maintaining the repository and ensuring developers are in sync with the production branch. Branches should be promptly merged into development to avoid getting lost in many branches."
"If other people are included in their project, you're going to have to make merge requests to merge the code you made, and the code your colleagues have made. So it's a little bit complicated."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"One needs to pay towards the licensing charges associated with the product."
"The platform offers a free version for public repositories, which benefits open-source projects."
"We opted for the on-premises solution, and while it's quite expensive, I believe there's room for improvement in terms of pricing. The licensing is based on the number of users, but I'm not entirely certain about the details."
"As for licensing, Bitbucket is one of the more affordable options."
"The solution comes as a part of the suite."
"There is a cost to use this solution but it is based on how many users are using it. If you have 50 users or 1,000 users the price will be very different."
"The tool's licensing costs are yearly. Prices can become expensive if you have a lot of users."
"Bitbucket Server is quite expensive compared to other products."
"Git is free and you don't have to pay for it."
"I am not required to pay due to the small number of users we have. We have a small user base, and we are not using the enterprise version."
"The platform is less expensive."
"This is an open-source solution, so there are no licensing fees associated with it, and no extra, 'hidden' charges."
"There are some extra costs to Git, but it depends on your use case."
"Git is an open-source software."
"The tool is an open-source product."
"Git is completely free."
