Dashboards facilitate prompt alerts but discovery feature needs enhancement
I would recommend Broadcom DX Application Performance Management if a customer doesn't have any existing performance solution. However, ten years ago, the solution was better, and now there are many competitive options. My overall rating would be between six and seven. The product rating I would give is 6.5 out of 10.

Simple to use but incredibly powerful
Great for rapid root cause, data is presented back in a way that is easy for non technical stakeholders to absorb (DBAs, Cap Analysts, testers, developers, application support), easy deployment on Oracle and SQL systems. Trending all SQL statements over time is invaluable to understand step changes. i.e is this slow because it is processing more or because an explain plan has changed.Dashboards and reports are very powerful.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The product helps us to identify code problems very quickly and can also help us identify other problems with the application as it's running, which is significant for us because application failures can impact revenue and customer satisfaction."
"It largely reduces turnaround time from application failure, and has reduced man hours in managing availability, performance, and scaling applications."
"In our experience, technical support has been excellent."
"EPA provides more flexibility for meeting customer requirements."
"Detailed alert settings give more control on when they should or should not appear."
"If there's something that you really need to get at that doesn't come out of the box, you can pretty easily put together some custom metrics and get those in place."
"It should enable you to see the usage and performance of all application dependencies like databases, web services, caching, etc."
"JVM memory monitoring and connection pool monitoring are valuable features."
"Great for rapid root cause, data is presented back in a way that is easy for non technical stakeholders to absorb (DBAs, Cap Analysts, testers, developers, application support), easy deployment on Oracle and SQL systems."
"Gives an excellent perspective on the state of the system at fault as well as the past!"

Cons

"The integration with CA Spectrum is quite difficult to create, and it is also only one way, only being used to view alarms coming from CA APM."
"The front-end representation should match other competitors such as AppDynamics."
"In order for the tool to be successful, at least in our organization, it will need to have more self-serve features for implementation, instrumentation, and then modification of metric data from the APM."
"Application performance in terms of transactions is a bit slow and could be quicker."
"There are more issues with the app monitoring itself, since the architecture can be a little bit confusing, and in some ways even incomplete on paper."
"The GUI feels sort of archaic. It doesn't have a modern look and feel to it."
"It needs more features, more performance, especially in a huge environment."
"It’s scalable, but not right out of the box, even though we were told it was designed to be out-of-the-box scalable."
"The user interface requires little change-but this problem is small compared to the capabilities of the tool"
"Web monitoring could be more robust and intuitive."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing structure should be based on memory or CPU usage rather than the number of agents, as it makes the solution more expensive for us."
"Setup costs are quite competitive relative to other solutions, and simpler."
"The licensing costs are expensive."
"Negotiate a lot, but do not forget to buy the product because it is worth it."
"Broadcom is a better and cheaper option from the financial perspective. It also depends on the DLP plug."
"Pricing and licensing are not issues."
"Dynatrace is the most expensive of these tools followed by AppDynamics which is "medium-expensive." CA APM is a bit lower in price than either Dynatrace or AppDynanics... In my opinion, if you can afford it, go for AppDynamics instead of CA APM."
"Althougth it is a bit expensive, it is really worth it"
