I would recommend Broadcom DX Application Performance Management if a customer doesn't have any existing performance solution. However, ten years ago, the solution was better, and now there are many competitive options. My overall rating would be between six and seven. The product rating I would give is 6.5 out of 10.

You can easily scale it for high message rates, but it's primarily a flow-monitoring tool rather than an APM.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"With this solution all my clients have reduced the number of incidents in production environment, and when they occur the time to solve these incidents has been reduced dramatically."
"Some of the things that are starting to be interesting is being able to pull in and merge the infrastructure and application data."
"With the adoption of CA APM, we have accurate mapping, we're updated on what supports each business service and what, when, where an incident occurs and how it affects the business."
"The time it takes to track problems in applications is the most valuable return that we have from this solution."
"Support from CA has been really, really phenomenal."
"The most valuable feature of APM is gaining insight into the application performance so we can proactively take actions before the customer calls to report an issue."
"The CA UIM is a very solid product; we love the simplicity of the robots and the agent installation and upgrading, because you can just do it right at your central station without rebooting the remote workstations or servers."
"It is great product with lots of features that help minimize the time taken to troubleshoot issues and root cause analysis to avoid loss of business."
"Very simple to use and is a very useful tool."
"You can easily scale it for high message rates."
"Flexible environment"
"Nastel is a world-class company that has partnership amongst other positive qualities embedded into its cultural fiber."

Cons

"Upgradability to it is a project instead of a patch. If it was actually an automated process to where it just fed updates to our product that would be great. Now, we have to spin up an effort to actually upgrade the solution."
"Yes, we encountered issues with scalability inside Team Center, a massive amount of universes, perspectives, applications."
"APM has been good in the Java space, and less good in the everything else."
"Issues with the workstation interface which could be more productive."
"It's not as agile in keeping up with the direction that CA is pushing it."
"Technical support is not good. We are not satisfied and would prefer if they offered much more support for their product."
"I would like them provide more guidance on specific tuning of monitoring options to avoid unacceptable overhead."
"Compared to other tools, the technical support is not good."
"Quality Assurance testing for new releases need to be more thorough"
"Needs to quickly implement support for all variety of servers."
"The GUI is quite basic and middleware-centric."
"Documentation"

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Depends on the size of the product you need."
"The licensing costs are expensive."
"Pricing and licensing are not issues."
"Negotiate a lot, but do not forget to buy the product because it is worth it."
"Setup costs are quite competitive relative to other solutions, and simpler."
"The pricing structure should be based on memory or CPU usage rather than the number of agents, as it makes the solution more expensive for us."
"The license for Broadcom DX Application Performance Management is annual. The licensing model could improve because there is not any limit to deploying the agent, there should be some limits on it."
"Dynatrace is the most expensive of these tools followed by AppDynamics which is "medium-expensive." CA APM is a bit lower in price than either Dynatrace or AppDynanics... In my opinion, if you can afford it, go for AppDynamics instead of CA APM."
