Good monitoring functionality, but technical support and integration with other products need to be improved
My biggest complaint about ADA is that you have to rely on dedicated appliances. For CA Spectrum, the integration of this product is something that needs to be improved. Even some of their point products to not integrate very well, and ADA is one of them. The user interface needs to be improved. Technical support needs to be improved.

Real-time monitoring has improved our banking API performance and supports detailed business transaction analysis
The real-time monitoring is what we can see for anything that is needed in terms of CPU, memory, or the connections or the sessions related. It's real-time monitoring of performance of each of the components, which is what we need and use all the time. It's highly effective, I would say. Infrastructure visibility, transaction monitoring, to check the actual user experience in terms of the response time, MRT and all those things. We do the component monitoring like the API performance and the connections and all those things, but we also do the business process monitoring and business transaction monitoring.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Once it is setup and seeing traffic, it is an impressive tool to show potential problems long before the general users are complaining."
"The pricing is relatively low compared to other solutions in this area, and I'd go so far as to say it's even significantly less than the competition."
"The most valuable feature is the fault management monitoring."
"The pricing is relatively low compared to other solutions in this area. I'd go so far as to say it's even significantly less than the competition."
"The most valuable feature is the fault management monitoring."
"Technical support is excellent."
"It gives us good insight into our end-to-end business transactions."
"The feature that is most valuable to us is the snapshot feature; it allows us to get a snapshot of different SQL scripts that are being executed simultaneously and we can identify everything we need on them."
"It provides everything into one view, so we can track information from one place to another."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to understand what's going on inside our application, not just what's going on in the hardware, in the network environment, and those sorts of things."
"What I like most about AppDynamics Server Monitoring is that it's easy to manipulate and easy to implement. All solutions have the same features, but what sets AppDynamics Server Monitoring apart is that it's really quick to implement. AppDynamics Server Monitoring has a great interface. As a developer, it doesn't matter whether it's SolarWinds, Dynatrace, or any APM you're using, but it would matter to the customer. A product must be easy to manipulate or use, for example, AppDynamics Server Monitoring, for the customer, but for developers like my team, there's no pressure, even if a solution requires coding."
"Transition tracing is the most valuable is pretty easy and useful, but the user experience piece is also good."
"Everything that AppDynamics yields we use in some way."
"Setting up the monitoring agents was straightforward."

Cons

"The user interface needs improvement."
"Upgrades can be quite complex."
"It is not the best product on the market, but it is better than the competition if you were comparing prices."
"My biggest complaint about ADA is that you have to rely on dedicated appliances."
"Hard to setup right, hard to get the conversations right."
"My biggest complaint about ADA is that you have to rely on dedicated appliances."
"One of the things that we would like to improve a little more is the dashboards. The dashboards are good, but I believe that they could improve even more."
"In the next release, I would like to see the configuration of the data and more support for new applications. It should support new languages."
"I have found it sometimes a bit difficult to trace the transaction all the way through to the application."
"Their agents sometimes claim to be very lightweight, especially with databases, but they are very heavy. They can take up more compute than the actual work that we need to do."
"The pricing falls within the mid-range category."
"The downside is that it's a little costly."
"Specific to our environment here, we use .NET and they have more features for the Java platform."
"The tool should provide information like the number of connections and processes utilized in real time."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"This is an expensive solution and there is a single price to pay for licensing, with no options."
"It is expensive. However, our time to recover has been reduced, and this product has helped recuperate costs and provided us with ROI."
"It could be a bit lower, but looking at the scalability, functionality, and other things, you can understand why AppDynamics is so expensive as compared to some of the cheaper products that don't have that full single pane of glass they've got. Dynatrace has got three different elements that you need to log into just to get a full view, which is not so good, and because of that, it is a bit cheaper."
"We buy the platform's yearly subscription."
"The pricing for AppDynamics is expensive, but it is possible to negotiate special pricing through bids."
"AppDynamics Server Monitoring is an expensive solution."
"I give the price a five out of ten."
"The product is a bit expensive compared to other tools."
"I would say the solution is affordable because it is widely used across financial service sectors."
