Good monitoring functionality, but technical support and integration with other products need to be improved
My biggest complaint about ADA is that you have to rely on dedicated appliances. For CA Spectrum, the integration of this product is something that needs to be improved. Even some of their point products to not integrate very well, and ADA is one of them. The user interface needs to be improved. Technical support needs to be improved.

Real-time monitoring has improved our banking API performance and supports detailed business transaction analysis
The real-time monitoring is what we can see for anything that is needed in terms of CPU, memory, or the connections or the sessions related. It's real-time monitoring of performance of each of the components, which is what we need and use all the time. It's highly effective, I would say. Infrastructure visibility, transaction monitoring, to check the actual user experience in terms of the response time, MRT and all those things. We do the component monitoring like the API performance and the connections and all those things, but we also do the business process monitoring and business transaction monitoring.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The pricing is relatively low compared to other solutions in this area, and I'd go so far as to say it's even significantly less than the competition."
"Technical support is excellent."
"Once it is setup and seeing traffic, it is an impressive tool to show potential problems long before the general users are complaining."
"The most valuable feature is the fault management monitoring."
"AppDynamics Server Monitoring is one of the best tools because it instantly gives you integration details, and you can integrate it more quickly than other solutions."
"This APM tool has helped our organization to find problems before customers find them."
"AppDynamics is easier to install compared to other solutions."
"AppDynamics allows users a complete application monitoring solution for making better products and applications."
"I like that AppDynamics allows every organization to have what they want to see, like for my organization, we're able to customize the dashboard to show us details of what we want to see in our transactions."
"As a general rule, though, AppDynamics is something that we really can't operate without; even in the case of when we had a pretty big network outage earlier this year, where we weren't able to see the controller from our desks."
"A solution like AppDynamics is a definite advantage because it can pinpoint the areas that the person(s) reviewing the issue need to focus on, making the technicians a lot faster in remediating issues that an application is presenting."
"The most valuable feature is just the sheer visibility it gives us, especially being on the performance team."

Cons

"It is not the best product on the market, but it is better than the competition if you were comparing prices."
"My biggest complaint about ADA is that you have to rely on dedicated appliances."
"Hard to setup right, hard to get the conversations right."
"The user interface needs improvement."
"Upgrades can be quite complex."
"The QA and test environment need improvement."
"I went through the Power User training, and it was kind of like drinking from a fire hose."
"I haven’t rated the product higher basically because of the synthetic monitoring piece."
"It's very complex regarding pricing, setup costs, and licensing of Splunk AppDynamics."
"If it could have a sub-tool for monitoring Apache Kafka logs, it would save me even more time. There are ways to do it now, but a direct way would be faster and better."
"Sometimes we're looking at the dashboard and we see something wrong. We feel that they're not really taking action."
"Splunk AppDynamics, although feature-rich, is known to be expensive."
"Analytics SQL statement monitoring"

Pricing and Cost Advice

"This is an expensive solution and there is a single price to pay for licensing, with no options."
"There is a license to use this solution. However, the clients pay for the licenses we are the service provider."
"It could be cheaper. It's a little cost prohibitive. There are so many features that also show a lot of value, but it’s not always easy to justify the cost."
"I would like more flexible pricing: A pay-per-use model, rather than just a fixed-price model."
"We do not have any issues with the price."
"We find its pricing reasonable and competitive. After it was acquired by Cisco, we found it acceptable."
"The solution is highly expensive"
"It does require licensing to be paid."
"It could be a bit lower, but looking at the scalability, functionality, and other things, you can understand why AppDynamics is so expensive as compared to some of the cheaper products that don't have that full single pane of glass they've got. Dynatrace has got three different elements that you need to log into just to get a full view, which is not so good, and because of that, it is a bit cheaper."
